First off, WELCOME to this new echo! (insert fanfare...)
STDSN
(The "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" echo)
Moderated by Ray Brown, Sysop of SpacePort Miami
North Miami, FL
(FidoNet 1:135/70; TrekNet 87:6002/26228)
Co-Moderated by ???
This echo is for discussion of anything to do with the new,
upcoming series, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". Since the show is not
yet even in production, and is not scheduled to be shown on television
until January 1993, many things being said now (in late June, 1992) may
not be true or accurate by the time the show actually airs. However,
this IS the place to openly and freely discuss anything that can or
will go with the show.
For the time being, this message area is very limited. I will
find as much information as I can from other sources and place it in
this echo. This may include information from other FidoNet echos such
as TREK and STTNG. It is strongly recommended that you ask in here
first before you start cross-posting 20 long messages from these or
other echos. Let's discuss this first!
The rules... alas, there must be rules. (Sysops, please post
this message in a convenient location, such as 2.MSG, for your users'
future reference.)
0. By posting in this echo, you automatically agree to abide by
the rules that are in use.
1. As stated above, this echo is for discussion of anything to do
with the new, upcoming series, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". Since this
is of the same time-frame as ST:TNG, and since there will be some
characters (and an occasional view of NCC-1701D) "crossing-over"
between the two shows, _SOME_ discussion of ST:TNG will be allowed.
BUT, there will be _NO_ discussions about The Original Series (TOS) or
The Movies (ST:TMP thru ST VI). For discussions of these subjects, you
are heartily encourage to join the TREK echo. However, this IS the
place to openly and freely discuss anything that can or will go with
the new show, such as the Ferengi, Bajoren, the station itself, the
nearby "wormhole", etc, etc.
2. This echo is currently in limited distribution inside
FidoNet. Sysops are to inform the Moderator(s) before passing this echo
on to other systems. Growth is definitely encouraged, but until this
echo achieves "backbone" status, the Moderator(s) must know who is
recieving this echo, for adminstrative purposes.
3. This echo is to have PUBLIC-ONLY messages. No
private-flagged messages will be allowed. If there is a question you
must ask in private, please take it to NetMail. (The Moderator(s)'s
system(s) is(are) "CM", which means it(they) can recieve NetMail at any
time.) See Rule #6 for treatment of violations.
4. The Moderator(s) will allow the use of "handles" (alias) in
this echo, as long as the handles are not used in a malicious manner.
The Moderator(s) reserve the right to ask for the true names of the
message posters. See Rule #6 for treatment of violations.
5. No "flaming" allowed. Flaming is where one leaves a message
that enrages other readers. By the nature of this echo, this means,
don't bad-mouth the actors or the echo participants. In other words,
you may DISCUSS what you think is wrong, as long as you are receptive
to other ideas about how to handle the problem. See Rule #6 for
treatment of violations.
6. For individuals who violate these few, simple rules, these
are the penalties: First-time offence - mild warning, in this echo.
Second offence of the same nature - stern warning in this echo, with a
carbon copy to the SysOp of the system where the message was entered.
Third offense of the same nature - a netmail message to the sysop,
strongly requesting that the offending individual be locked out of the
echo. A fourth offense of the same nature will cause the link to that
particular system to be severed for a minimum of 30 days.
7. The Moderator of STDSN is an appointed position. If, for
some reason, the Moderator must step down, the Co-Moderator (if
present) will assume the duties of Moderator, and an election will be
called to fill the role of Co-Moderator. If there is no appointed
Co-Moderator, then an election will be called by the outgoing
Moderator (or the ZEC), and a new Moderator will be chosen from among
the active participants.
8. In case of any dispute, the Zone Echo Coordinator has the
final say in matters involving this Echo.
9. The Moderator(s) reserve the right to modify these rules as
necessary. Also, the discussion of the rules in the echo are STRONGLY
DISCOURAGED and should be taken to NetMail, where they can be discussed
in length and in private.
10. There is no Rule #10. But, if we need one, we'll use it.
(smile)
"Let's see what's REALLY out there!"
Ray Brown
Moderator, STDSN
