  8.     The WHATSNEW.TXT file, provides information conerning the current release. 
  9.     It is always beneficial to review that file before installation as well.

  12.     NOTICE! - If you're running a multi-node BBS, please review the section
  13.           in this document of Multi-Node considerations.

  15.     DOOR.SYS - ChessMAGIC! now only supports the DOOR.SYS format.
  16.  
  17.     LOCAL GRAPHICS - Currently the local Hi-Res Graphics is not available.
  18.              Due to memory considerations the local graphics is not
  19.              available. It will be available in a maintenance release.
  20.              Anyone with a registered version of 5.01 will receive 
  21.              this update free.

  26.     ChessMAGIC! is distributed in .ZIP format. Use PKUNZIP to extract
  27.     the files. First create the directory where ChessMAGIC! is to reside,
  28.     then use PKUNZIP to extract the files.  Always overwrite files if
  29.     upgrading from a previous version.

  31.     If you're installing ChessMAGIC! for the first time, follow the
  32.     instructions in the CMAGIC.DOC file for running LOCAL.BAT. You
  33.     need to run ChessMAGIC!, to initialize the files, before running
  34.     CMEdit. CMEdit WILL NOT create/initialize the databases. 
  35.  
  36.   RIP GRAPHICS The file CMRIPnnn.ZIP file should be made available to
  37.            your users. It contains is the ICONS utilized by ChessMAGIC!.
  38.            They must have it before using ChessMAGIC! in RIP mode.
  39.            You can download this file directly from IntelliLink BBS.
  40.            Your BBS doesn't need to support RIP graphics for your users
  41.            to get RIP benefit from ChessMAGIC!. It'll detect a RIP
  42.            terminal. Ripterm, which is a very good communications
  43.            software, is freeware and the latest version is always
  44.            available at IntelliLink.
  45.  
  46.     NEW!       You'll need to re-register ChessMAGIC! using the registration
  47.            facility in CMEdit. If you don't have CMEdit, you'll need
  48.            to get it. It replaces CMSys. DO NOT use "cmagic register"
  49.            to register this version.

  51.            The accompanying cmate.exe file, is the computer play
  52.            module. See the sample.bat file for installing it in
  53.            your door BAT file that calls ChessMAGIC!. ChessMAGIC!
  54.            returns an errorlevel that initiates cmate.

  56.    UPGRADE!    An upgrade is required and can be accomplished using the
  57.            built in feature in CMEdit. If you're running a version
  58.            prior to 2.01, please follow the instructions in the
  59.            section Conversion Notification, later in this document.

  61.     Multi-Node Considerations
  62.           
  63.            If you're running ChessMAGIC! with graphics turned on,
  64.            please change the attributes to the *.bgi, *.chr, *.fnt 
  65.            and cmagic.exe files to Read Only.  An error could be 
  66.            encountered with a message of "BGI Error".

  68.            I've included the batch file READONLY.BAT to properly
  69.            set the files requires to read only. Make sure the DOS
  70.            ATTRIB command is in your path.

  76.     ChessMAGIC! is distributed as CMAGInnn.ZIP (where nnn = version number). 
  77.     There is no longer a separate archive for the graphics version. Both
  78.     are combined as single executable in the above archive.

  80.     CMEdit and Cmate are now included in the ChessMAGIC! distibution 
  81.     archive. CMEdit also requires a run time library in association 
  82.     with the above archive. Because of the libraries size, they are 
  83.     distributed in separate archives. There are two run time libraries, 
  84.     one for running in conventional memory (confined to 640k) and another 
  85.     that will utilize EMS memory. Once you have a library, there is no need
  86.     to download them on an updated version of CMEdit. The run time 
  87.     libraries are distributed as CMEDLIBC.ZIP (conventional memory) and
  88.     CMEDLIBE.ZIP (EMS memory). CMEdit will not run without 1 of the 
  89.     libraries. If you can't find the libraries locally, they can obtained
  90.     on IntelliLink BBS.

  96.       CMEdit    ChessMAGIC! System Editor/Database Manager.

  98.       CMReader  ChessMAGIC! Graphical offline game reader. Reads short
  99.         of long algebraic from text files.  Available now.

  101.       CMStats   Produces bulletins for your BBS and can be run as an event.
  102.         Creates a win/loss/draw stats for each game area and also
  103.         creates a bulletin showing games to be joined in each
  104.         game area.

  109.     Anyone using a version prior to version 2.01, will be required to run
  110.     GAMECHG.EXE before installing and running a new version. The game files
  111.     *.mve are not compatible with this version and will not be recognized.
  112.     The afore mentioned program will convert the game files. If this program
  113.     is not found in this archive, it may be obtained from IntelliLink BBS.
  114.     It is found in file area 1 as CONVERTG.EXE (self-extracting archive).

  120.     Turn OFF your line wrap toggle.  When ON, Qmodem users have told us
  121.     about trouble with wrapping.  This doesn't happen with other
  122.     communications programs (i.e. Telix, Procomm,Commo, Lync, etc.).
  123.     ChessMAGIC! is displaying board column numbers at row 80.

  125.     RIP Alert! There is a problem with Qmodem Pro regarding interpretation
  126.     of certain RIP commands issued by ChessMAGIC!. The folks at Qmodem Pro
  127.     will have this corrected in the near future.

  130.     If running under Desqview, make certain that "manage printer contention"
  131.     is set to NO.  Gary Berg discovered the share violations on his LANtastic
  132.     system (The Rec Room) were caused by having this set to YES.

  135.     Make sure that the SHARE.EXE is between REDIR and the SERVER commands.
  136.     Also change the accompanying .EXE files to READ-ONLY.

  139.     For those running multinode versions of ChessMAGIC!, set the following
  140.     files to READ ONLY: *.icn  cmagic.exe  *.chr  *.bgi
  141.     Not doing so can cause you to experience share violations.

  147.     and Decibel. KnightWare is the sole developer, distributor and support

  150.     "MYSTORY.TXT" file that depicts the other side of this situation.
