BBSLIST -- The Local BBS List Maintainer Alton Moore III
---------------------------------------- Fidonet 1:397/5264 (NEC)
WWIVnet 1@1042
INTRODUCTION:
-------------
This is the help file for the BBSLIST message processor. This help file
may be obtained by sending HELP as the first line of a message to
BBSLIST (not case sensitive) to the correct Fidonet node. It will
also be file-attached in response to any message which the software
does not understand. It doesn't hurt to request this help file every
once in a while to see if it has been updated. I can have the software
automatically distribute the help file also whenever it is updated,
if noone objects.
If you are requesting a function which does not update the list, then
the subject field is ignored. If you want to update the list, however,
and are in possesion of the correct password, you would supply that
password in the subject field of the message.
COMMANDS:
---------
To get an information file which gives data about the bbs community
in the Valley and services available here (gateways, etc.), send
INFO as one of the lines of your message.
To get the latest BBS listing, send a message to BBSLIST with LIST
alone on a message line. A copy of the latest current BBS list will
be file-attached to you. Note: this software is not zone-aware yet.
To make changes to the BBS listing, enter CHANGE=x, where x is the "unique
number" (assigned by the program) of the bbs whose listing you want to
modify. After that, you enter the field name to change, =, then the new
data, like so:
CHANGE=x (x=unique number to change)
name=Joe's BBS
sysop=Joe Mama
.
.
hours=24 hrs.
software=FD/WWIV
To make additions, ADD alone should appear on a line; the unique number
assigned will be sent back to you in your confirmation message. The rest
of the message should be as the change message -- fields followed by
appropriate data:
ADD
name=Bums' Haven
sysop=Big Bummer
number=555-1212
.
.
Deletion format is:
DELETE=x (x=unique number to delete)
The possible fields are: name[30]
sysop[20]
sysopreal[20]
number[10]
addr1[20]
addr2[20]
addr3[20]
baud[20]
location[20]
hours[10]
software[10]
Entering data which is too long into the fields will cause the field
to be truncated and the remaining portion to be seen as the next
keyword. This will cause "Unknown keyword" messages and help files
attached to you as the software vents its displeasure upon you!
DISTRIBUTION LIST COMMANDS:
---------------------------
To add a node to the distribution list: DIST-A=397/9999
To drop a node from the distribution list: DIST-D=397/9999
GENERAL STUFF:
--------------
The software will handle multiple transactions per message, and each
message you send will be answered (immediately after receipt) by a
confirmation message (and/or the requested information).
Function keywords may follow each other without an intervening blank line
if they are not intended to be followed by a list of field names. If,
however, you are listing field names to a function, for example giving
all the fields to an ADD function, you would follow these field
lines with a blank line to signify the end of the transaction.
If you have any questions / suggestions for improvements to the
documentation, I would appreciate hearing them so I can fix things.
