  1. The DigiPhone is my first hardware product.  It is the result of my
  2. senior project at Cal Poly.  I am building a batch of them this
  3. summer and will be marketing them in August (1989).  Included below
  4. is the abstract from the senior project report.  Please let me know
  5. if you would be interested in something like this.  Currently, I
  6. have it installed on my BBS number and interfaced with Perspective
  7. BBS.  Just call my BBS voice and press "0" (touch-tone) within the
  8. first 5 seconds to get a demonstration of the DigiPhone.

  12.                                   The DigiPhone

  14.                             An IBM PC Voice Mail Card
  15.  
  16.                  The  DigiPhone  functions as  an  enhanced  telephone 
  17.             answering  machine and is designed as a plug in  card  for 
  18.             the  IBM  PC  and compatibles.  In  addition  to  standard 
  19.             answering   machine  functions,  the  DigiPhone   features 
  20.             programmable outgoing message selection, message  routing, 
  21.             response  to  caller's  touch  tone  signals,  and  remote 
  22.             programming ability.

  24.                  The  DigiPhone will answer incoming telephone  calls, 
  25.             deliver   outgoing   messages   which   are   programmably 
  26.             selectable  from  as many as 16 digitized  audio  messages 
  27.             stored on the PC's hard disk, record incoming messages  to 
  28.             the hard disk or optionally to an external  tape recorder, 
  29.             route  messages  to  a specified receiver,  respond  to  a 
  30.             caller's   touch   tone  signals,  and  enter   a   remote 
  31.             programming mode as a result of a special code sent by the 
  32.             caller.

  34.                  Audio  messages are processed digitally via  A/D  and 
  35.             D/A  converters which receive and send 8 bit data  to  and 
  36.             from  the IBM PC through a selectable port  address.   A/D 
  37.             conversion  is  implemented  with  the  ADC0802  which  is 
  38.             operated  at a clock rate of 512 Khz (corresponding  to  a 
  39.             conversion rate of 8 Khz).  D/A conversion is  implemented 
  40.             with  the DAC0830.  Interface with the telephone  line  is 
  41.             accomplished  with  the  speech  circuit  TP5700   coupled 
  42.             through  opto-couplers.   Messages are recorded  using  an 
  43.             external  600  ohm  dynamic  microphone  and  played  back 
  44.             through an external 8 ohm speaker.

  46.                  A  full featured pull-down menu program  is  provided 
  47.             with   the  DigiPhone  and  implements  all   programmable 
  48.             functions.  Data I/O with the card is interrupt driven  to 
  49.             allow apparent simultaneous disk I/O.

  51.                  Production of the DigiPhone is planned for July, 1989 
  52.             with distribution planned for August, 1989.  Retail  price 
  53.             will be less than $200.
