  2. This was a big learning experiance for me, I probably wouldn't
  3. have sunk so much time into it, if the designers of the
  4. program wouldn't have tried to make it so difficult.

  6. After flipping the 'bypass the registration check' byte,
  7. the program would reboot the computer. Further investigation
  8. showed that the program dumped the message 'Trying to crack
  9. shareware? Now what should I do with you' to the shutdown
  10. line, and initiated the reboot. The program uses a self-validation
  11. routine to check bytes inside it's code, and checks to make
  12. no brite-sparqs have been monkeying with the code. By breakpointing
  13. inside the advapi32.dll on the InitiateSystemShutdown function,
  14. I was able to reverse out, and find where these checks happened.
  15. As a safty measure, I changed all the e-mail addresses for registration,
  16. just to make sure that the thing won't try to run home to mommy
  17. some time down the road, so it should be safe.

  21. run the crack, and you're good to go.
