Q. What is a null-modem cable?
A. A null-modem cable allows two computers to be connected
by their serial ports to exchange data. This is different to
a regular serial cable. A null-modem cable has the transmit
and received wires crossed so that data transmitted from one
computer will arrive at the receive pin of the other.
Q. How can I get my hands on a null-modem cable.
A. Some computer/electronics stores sell null-modem boxes.
These have the transmit and receive lines crossed so all you
need to do is add one of these to your existing cable. If
you cannot obtain a null-modem box you can make your own
cable or ask me to supply one for you.
Q. What are the pinouts needed to make a make my own cable?
A. To make a cable to connect a Macintosh to a PC the
pinouts are below. (View this document with a fixed pitch
font).

show the pin numbers. Note that this is the view you see
as you solder onto the plug.
