  1. This one was a small struggle of trial and error, install, delete, and
  2. re-install  but The RISE ProE 18 release does work.  I have not tried
  3. all option codes yet, but the 7 or 8 I have tried seem to work fine.

  5. This is what you need to do.

  7. HARDWARE:
  8.  
  9. My machine is not running on a network, but apparently the software
  10. needs to see an ethernet card installed in your machine.
  11.  
  12. You must setup and activate drivers for Client for Microsoft Networks
  13.  
  14. You must setup and activate both TCP/IP and NetBIOS network protocols.
  15.  
  16. For TCP/IP you must have a fixed IP address established.  I chose 
  17.  
  18. IP Address:   1.2.3.10
  19. Subnet Mask:  255.0.0.0
  20. Gateway:  1.2.3.1
  21.  
  22. Choose IPX/SPX-compatible protocol for NetBIOS and make sure you check
  23. the box that causes IPX\SPX to use it as default.
  24.  
  25. Check Network Bindings and make sure both protocols are active.
  26.  
  27. Also make sure the drivers have the Enhanced mode boxes checked.
  28.  
  29. You will also need to setup a computer name and workgroup name in
  30. Network identification.
  31.  
  32. If you are installing a network card just for this "stand alone"
  33. purpose make sure that all drivers specific to your card are loaded
  34. and there are no address conflicts with other cards.  Check Control
  35. Panel - System-Hardware Devices
  36.  
  37. Your display needs to be running with at least 1024 X 768 X 256
  38. resolution or ProE will not run.
  39.

  41. SOFTWARE:
  42.  
  43. Unzip/Unrar all files to a temporary directory on your hardrive.
  44.  
  45. Run install.com patches  the prosetup.exe in the ptc_install/i48695
  46. directory.   The prosetup.exe there has already been patched on
  47. another machine, so make a new copy from the original Kopie van
  48. PROSETUP.EXE there.
  49.  
  50. Run the setup.exe  to install the ProE directory structure and files.
  51. The executable code for all options is installed automatically.
  52.  
  53. When the installation program asks for you to type a start command, do
  54. not choose START.  I chose " Proe" after several trials  and errors.
  55. But you can choose anything except start.  The batch file that will be
  56. created for program execution references start as a Proe command and
  57. environment varaible.  Naming your execution file START will put this
  58. batch file in a loop and the program will not run.
  59.  
  60. When the installation asks for number of unique serial numbers choose
  61. 1.
  62.  
  63. Enter the serial number, revision code, and autorization code etc. as
  64. stated in the codes text. 
  65.  
  66. The authorization code is entered in the left most box.
  67.  
  68. The WLO code should be entered in the option codes box on the right
  69. along with whatever other options you want installed.  Note some
  70. options are incompatible with others and will cause ProE to sputter if
  71. both are authorized.  I suggest only a few to begin.  You can always
  72. add others.  ProDRAW is incompatible with most other options, so avoid
  73. it.

  75.  ASSEMBLY, MESH, DETAIL, NOTEBOOK, PERSPA-SKETCH, TOOLKIT, and
  76. DESIGNER were tested fine.
  77.  
  78. ProE will not install itself over an existing installation or to any
  79. directory that already exists.
  80.  
  81. Do not load the DEMO files as some appear to be missing and the
  82. install will die when it can't find them.
  83.  
  84. After the initial install, you will need to run Proe18.com to patch
  85. some files  with the cracks.  Put Proe.com into the root directory of
  86. the installation.  Make sure your path points to this directory.  Edit
  87. your autoexec.bat and reboot if necessary.
  88.  
  89. Run proe18.com and it will respond with some errors that it can't find
  90. or can't open certain files. 
  91.  
  92. The files that it is looking to modify are all read only, so make note
  93. of file names and paths (They exist in several different directories.)
  94. and change the attribute of these files to archive.
  95.  
  96. Run Proe18.com again and it should patch the files.  It does not hurt
  97. to run the patch over the files more than once until you get them all.
  98. When it is successful it will say 
  99.  
  100. "Patterns matched" and look for the next file to patch.  When the
  101. entire patch is successful it will say "Crack Successful".  If you try
  102. to patch over an already patched file it will say :Patterns not
  103. matched" but will not hurt anything.  When you see the "Crack
  104. successful" you should get happy.  
  105.  
  106. At this point find the ptcutil.bat file and execute it.  This will set
  107. the license and you may need to re-enter new option codes or other
  108. codes at this time.  ProE will not run if you do not do this.  Make
  109. sure the drive/directory and processor type are correct.  Choose edit
  110. if you need to enter or want to check option codes.
  111.  
  112. If you chose Proe as your start command this action will create a
  113. batch file called Proe.bat in the <install>/bin directory.
  114.  
  115. You can now try to execute this but you will not be successful.  More
  116. than likely you will get an "Out of Environment Space" error.  Open
  117. and edit  Properties-Memory for this batch file and change Auto to
  118. 4096 in the right most side of the dialog box.

  120. This batch file calls several others in the same directory during
  121. execution, so change every batch file in the <install>/bin directory
  122. the same way to 4096.

  124. All environment space errors are related to this problem and nothing
  125. else.

  128. Now you are ready to run.  ProE is executed from the <install>/bin
  129. directory, click on ProE.bat and get happy.

  131. If you get a blue window that gives some network error messages, your
  132. problem is with your network card or configuration.

  135. I will answer intelligent questions posted here provided it appears
  136. the questioner has made an effort to make it work on their own.

  138. I apologize for any errors in this instruction and will correct them
  139. if necessary.  Both efforts have made me tired.   I can guarantee
  140. success, if you can follow the instructions.  Complainers will be
  141. ignored.

  146. Information on PTC's website has info that the WinFAT version of Win95
  147. is necessary for install/execution of ProE.

  149. I have OSr2 and FAT32 so I cannot test the truth of this.

  151. Also, a three button mouse is required if you want it to work right.
