  12. A dispatch from Statesboro, GA quoted Governor Jimmy Carter on UFO's  
  13. "I've seen one myself." Mr. Carter said: he saw the shining, saucer-shaped 
  14. object before he became governor.

  16. He did not specify the date or place, but noted that he had been with 
  17. friends after a business dinner.  The dispatch said: there have been a
  18. number of UFO sightings in the  South recently but did not specify how
  19. many of them had been after  business dinners.

  34. Carter Asked Space Agency to Investigate UFO's

  36. President Carter had asked NASA to establish a panel of inquiry to    
  37. investigate UFO's.  Dave Williamsom, NASA's assistant for special projects,
  38. answered on friday that NASA was "not anxious" to get into the controversy 
  39. because"it's not wise to do research on something that is not a measurable 
  40. phenomenon.

  42. There is no measurable UFO evidence such as a piece of metal, flesh or
  43. cloth.  We don't even have any radio signals. A photograph is not a   
  44. measurement. But he added that a group of technical experts he headed 
  45. would recommend by the end of the year what NASA's response should be to   
  46. the white house request.

  61. NASA Refuses To Reopen Investigation of UFO's

  63. NASA administrator Robert Frosch, in a letter last week to Pres. Carter's  
  64. science advisor Dr. Frank Press, rejected a White House request to investi-
  65. gate UFO's sawing that such an inquiry would be "wasteful and probably
  66. unproductive."

  68. Dr. Press said: he accepted NASA's conclusions and did not plan to pursue  
  69. the matter further.  NASA said: that it stood ready to analyze any "bona   
  70. fide physical evidence from credible sources," but such evidence has never 
  71. been found.

  86. UN Urged To Set Up An Agency For UFO's

  88. Mr.Wellington Friday, a delegate from Grenada, spoke before the UN General 
  89. Assembly'Special Political Committee yesterday at the start of a debate on 
  90. how the UN could contribute to UFO research.

  92. He said: the UN should establish an agency to study the sightings of  
  93. physical alien objects, contact with such objects and the exchanges with   
  94. alien creatures occupying UFO's.

  96. Grenada's Prime Minister Sir Eric M. Gairy has for many years asked the    
  97. UN to establish a UFO agency; delegates agreed that they needed time to    
  98. prepare for a debate on the issue later this week.

  113. United Nations Hears Case For UFO's

  115. For the second time in two years, the Prime Minister of the West Indies    
  116. island of Grenada, Sin Eric Gairy, is campaigning to get the UN to set up  
  117. an agency to "collate, coordinate and corroborate information" on UFO's.   
  118.  
  119. In 1977, Gairy succeeded in getting UFO's on the General Assembly's   
  120. agenda which resulted in an agreement that any country with information    
  121. or ideas on the subject could send them to UN Secretary-General Kurt  
  122. Waldheim; however, in the year since Waldhein has made no public mention   
  123. of co-operation from member nations.

  125. Earlier this week, Gairy was at the UN making his case again:    
  126. "We've passed the stage now whether or not these things exist. I think
  127. it is accepted that these things do exist.  I think we now want to know    
  128. the nature, the origin and the intent of these saucers.  Some people think 
  129. they have come to do good.  Some think they have come to dominate human    
  130. beings."

  132. He cited reported that aircraft have been put out of commission, but not   
  133. destoyed, after attacking saucers.  "That comfirms my thought on their
  134. positive intent.  I believe they are coming here to help mankind because   
  135. man is so self-destructive...

  137. It would be very conceited for man to think that he is the most  
  138. intelligent of God's creatures."   Sir Eric says he hes seen two UFO's
  139. in the last three years; the second time earlier this year from a hotel    
  140. room in Grenada.  "The time is going to come when everybody on Earth  
  141. will have to pay attention to the UFO phenomenon."
