  2. Aeronautical Systems Center

  4. The Aeronautical Systems Center is proud heir to a long tradition 
  5. of aerospace research and development dating back to the Wright 
  6. brothers.  Since the days when Wilbur and Orville developed the 
  7. first real aircraft at Huffman Prairie, through two World Wars, 
  8. Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War, the aeronautical systems 
  9. developed at McCook and Wright Fields have whetted the cutting 
  10. edge of this nationÆs airpower.  People are the basis of this 
  11. achievement:  from such inspired Air Force leaders as General 
  12. Henry H. Hap Arnold, General Bernard A. Schriever, and Lieutenant 
  13. General James T. Stewart, to the thousands of scientists, 
  14. engineers, and support personnel, both civilian and military, 
  15. who dedicate their lives to creating and sustaining the Wright 
  16. Field heritage.

  18. This heritage includes legendary aircraft like the P-51 Mustang 
  19. and the B-17 Flying Fortress, as well as the indomitable B-52 
  20. Stratofortress.  More recently, versatile aircraft like the F-16 
  21. Fighting Falcon and the F-117 stealth fighter have extended this 
  22. heritage.  Now the B-2 stealth bomber, the F-22 Advanced Tactical 
  23. Fighter, and the Top Secret Aurora are proud additions to Wright 
  24. FieldÆs tradition of aeronautical innovation.

  26. Like avenging angels flying out of the past into the future, the 
  27. aeronautical systems developed at Wright Field during four 
  28. generations have defended AmericaÆs values of peace and freedom 
  29. around the world.  The men and women of ASC look back with pride 
  30. on this rich heritage as they continue their remarkable journey 
  31. into a new era of aerospace challenge and achievement.
