  78.    I took the Information in Ed Vielmetti's FAQ files, my personal
  79.    experience, and lots of stuff from comp.protocols.ppp, and built a new
  80.    document. Later, lots of people contributed at one or the other place.

  82.    This document will be reposted fortnightly, as soon as it is fairly
  83.    stable, and weekly till then. Changed sections should be marked in the
  84.    Table of Contents with a ! or + for something got added or - for
  85.    something got deleted.

  89.    If you have experience with anything mentioned here, or know of newer
  90.    versions, or of versions of software for other hardware/OS, or ... send
  91.    me mail. I'll include it and possibly mention your name, if you don't

  99. CD-ROM policy

  101.    This sample of documents was collected by me from the various sources,
  102.    including the Usenet news and direct contributions from others. I
  103.    started with it before the outbreak of the CD ROM plague, so the special
  104.    issue of ppl. collecting machine readable data, storing them to master
  105.    disks and selling copies thereof never occured.
  106.    
  107.    Personally, I think that pressing higly dynamic data collections (like
  108.    FAQ lists) to write-once media is a very stupid thing to do. However,
  109.    there might be reasons to include the PPP-FAQ with other data; e.g.,
  110.    when preparing a NetBSD distribution on CD-ROM, an off-line readable
  111.    copy of the PPP FAQ might be helpful for those wanting to set up a PPP
  112.    connection from their newly aquired NetBSD for the first time... how
  113.    could they access the online copy without having a working PPP
  114.    connection?
  115.    
  116.    In the last few years I got lots of requests to allow the PPP FAQ to be
  117.    added to such CD-ROMs. As I never had asked for such permissions from
  118.    the contributors, I was not able to say "yes", even if I would have
  119.    given the permission for my own work.
  120.    
  121.    If you contribute s.th., please state clearly if you would allow
  122.    inclusion of the information to CD-ROM collections.
  123.    
  124.    At the moment, I can't give the permission to copy this stuff to CD-ROMs
  125.    which are sold afterwards, even if I would like to, for the stated
  126.    reasons.

  158. Solaris 2.1:  it's slow, needs 200M of disk space and comes without C compiler,
