Artists:Divided Opinions
Track:Shallow
Divided Opinions are an up and coming six piece who hail from Barnet. The sound is
folk rock with the odd classical and/or prog infusion.
It shouldn't really come as a surprise that there is the odd classical touch as three of
the band come from a classical background. front person and fiddle player Juliette
together with Tracey, guitar and Karen, flute, guitar, with all three providing vocals to
varying degrees.
The rock influences come from Chris, Austin & Dave, guitars, bass and drums
respectively.
Despite the band's name there is little doubt about what they're about or where they're
going. The band have already gained a number of rave reviews for their appearances
in the Big Smoke and the band's demo tapes have been well received by publications
up and down the country.
Whilst mellow is a term that has been applied to the band's music, they have on occa
sion been compared to the Cocteau Twins., there is more of a bite to their music than
you might originally think.
One of the band's biggest problems at the moment is trying to avoid being labelled
with that kiss of death tag, the next big thing. Unfortunately there are a good number
of people that think, when it comes to roots based rock, they might just be.
Being a six piece gives them more scope then many band's out there at the moment,
but one of the most promising things they have going for them is the strength of their
songs.
The band have now released a couple of demo tapes, the latest of which is currently
available. The demos are excellent and leave you wondering just how good this band
could be given the budget for a proper session.
The new demo tape costs £3 and is available from the following address. The same
address can be used to find out dates and news.
