  5. Please take the time to review this file before installing and
  6. running WorldTime 2.1.

  9. VERSION 2.1E INTERIM RELEASE NOTE
  10. ---------------------------------
  11. Version 2.1e constitutes the fifth in a series of interim
  12. releases to WorldTime 2.1, implementing a number of minor
  13. refinements to existing program functions.
  14.  
  15. WorldTime 2.1e automatically places the current local time
  16. inside its program icon when the program window is minimized.
  17. This replaces the "Iconic Time Display" option which was
  18. available in earlier versions, but lead to conflicts with
  19. Windows screen savers.  The iconic time display is
  20. automatically without defeating any active Windows screen
  21. savers.
  22.  
  23. WorldTime Version 2.1e implements an adjustment to the local
  24. time zone listings that now provides separate GMT+12 and
  25. GMT-12 time zones.  If you have been using the shareware
  26. version of a WorldTime release PRIOR to version 2.1d, and then
  27. install the registered version of WorldTime 2.1d or 2.1e, your
  28. local time zone selection may need to be reset.
  29.  
  30. You can check this simply by opening the "Configuration"
  31. dialog via the menu bar "Options/Configuration..."
  32. command.  If your correct local time zone does not appear
  33. in the drop-down listbox control, you should reset it to
  34. the correct time zone and then close the dialog box with the
  35. "OK" pushbutton.
  36.  
  37. Version 2.1e offers the option of toggling the date display
  38. (in the status window) between MONTH/DAY/YEAR and
  39. DAY/MONTH/YEAR formats.  Controls for setting this selection
  40. are provided in the Configuration dialog box.
  41.  
  42. Finally, Version 2.1e saves its most recent screen position
  43. (X and Y coordinates) into the WTIME21.INI file.  Whenever
  44. WorldTime is run, the program window will position itself
  45. according to its previous screen location.
  46.  
  47. NOTE:  The current position is saved only when the program is
  48. closed while in its "maximized" or "restored" state.  The
  49. screen position is not saved if the program is closed from
  50. its iconic state.

  52. The first time the program is run, the WorldTime window may
  53. default to a centered position on your Windows desktop.

  56. INTRODUCTION
  57. ------------
  58. WorldTime 2.1 is an easy to use international clock utility
  59. for the Microsoft Windows operating environment.  WorldTime
  60. can display six different international locations and their
  61. current local times -- selected from a database of over 170
  62. metropolitan and geographic locations worldwide.

  65. NOTES FOR USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS
  66. ------------------------------------
  67. If you are familiar with previous major-version releases of
  68. WorldTime, please take note of the following new features
  69. implemented in version 2.1:
  70.  
  71. WTIME21.INI File Location
  72. -------------------------
  73. Unlike previous releases, WorldTime 2.1 now creates and
  74. maintains its initialization file (WTIME21.INI) in the
  75. default Windows directory.  This change was implemented to
  76. make the program easier to use on local area network (LAN)
  77. systems.  Previous releases kept the .INI file in the
  78. WorldTime directory.
  79.  
  80. For the benefit of users who prefer keeping the WorldTime
  81. .INI file in the WorldTime default directory, the program
  82. can be run with the Private Mode command line switch (/P).
  83. This forces the program to create and access its .INI file
  84. in the WorldTime default directory (i.e., wherever the
  85. WTIME21.EXE file is located), and also allows multiple
  86. copies of WorldTime (stored in separate directories) to
  87. be run with their own configuration settings.

  89. Configuration Dialog
  90. --------------------
  91. All configuration settings are now managed from within a
  92. Configuration dialog, accessible via the menu bar
  93. "Options/Configuration..." command.
  94.  
  95. Point-and-Shoot Mouse Support
  96. -----------------------------
  97. The international location selection dialogs can now be
  98. opened by placing the mouse pointer over the selected location
  99. display and double-clicking the left mouse button.  This
  100. feature duplicates the functions of the six buttonbar
  101. controls (which can now be disabled and removed from the
  102. program window -- see "Show/Hide ButtonBar").
  103.  
  104. Larger International Location Database
  105. --------------------------------------
  106. The number of standard locations accessible from WorldTime's
  107. International Location Selection dialog boxes has been
  108. increased, and includes generic time zone selections
  109. representing all standard time zones (labeled according to
  110. hours plus or minus Greenwich Mean Time).  This facility,
  111. coupled with the Custom Location Name feature, enables
  112. virtually any location to be entered and displayed in the
  113. WorldTime program window.
  114.  
  115. Custom Location Names / Half-Hour Time Support
  116. ----------------------------------------------
  117. WorldTime 2.1 now allows the configuration and selection of
  118. custom locations based on WorldTime's default or standard time
  119. (STD) location listings.  Any custom location can also be
  120. configured as a "half-hour" time zone.

  122. Show/Hide ButtonBar
  123. -------------------
  124. The buttonbar controls can now be disabled and removed from
  125. the program window, useful if your international location
  126. fields are set and you wish to decrease the size of
  127. WorldTime's program window.  This toggle option is accessible
  128. via the menu bar "Options/Show/Hide ButtonBar" command.

  130. Window/Icon Topmost Display
  131. ---------------------------
  132. WorldTime can now keep its program window or icon "topmost"
  133. among any other active applications on the Windows desktop.
  134. This option is accessible from the Configuration dialog box.

  136. 12-Hour/24-Hour Time Displays
  137. -----------------------------
  138. WorldTime can now be display all times in 12-hour or 24-hour
  139. format.  The user's selection of either option is then
  140. reflected not only in the main program window, but in the
  141. iconized time display and in the Set System Time dialog box.
  142.  
  143. Adjustable Text Display Color
  144. -----------------------------
  145. The on-screen color of each of the six international location,
  146. day of week, and time fields can be selected from the
  147. International Location Selection dialog box (within the "Text
  148. Display Color" control group).

  151. PROGRAM FILES
  152. -------------
  153. The WorldTime 2.1 package consists of 5 files:

  161. A sixth file, WTIME21.INI, is automatically created when the
  162. program is first run, and is located in the default Windows
  163. directory (e.g., C:\WINDOWS or C:\WIN).  This file contains
  164. all WorldTime configuration information.

  167. READ ALL ABOUT IT
  168. -----------------
  169. Full product documentation is contained in the WTIME21.TXT
  170. file.  This is an ASCII text file which can be easily loaded
  171. and viewed with Windows Notepad, Windows Write, or any word
  172. processor or text editor that supports the ASCII text format.
  173. This file includes a program description, instructions, and
  174. technical notes.
  175.  
  176. Specific information regarding the use of WorldTime 2.1 in a
  177. network environment is contained in the ASCII text file,
  178. NETWORK.TXT.  It is STRONGLY recommended that this file is
  179. read before installing WorldTime 2.1 on a local area network.

  181. Hypertext program documentation is supplied in the WTIME21.HLP
  182. file.  This is a Windows Help System format file, which can be
  183. loaded and viewed with Windows Help -- and is directly
  184. accessed from within WorldTime via the menu bar
  185. "Help/Contents..." command.

  187. Both of these files contain all the information you need to
  188. install and run this program.  The Windows Help System
  189. includes the provision for easily printing any topic or topics
  190. from the WTIME21.HLP file.  This handy feature can be used to
  191. turn your "manual on disk" into hard copy for future
  192. reference.

  195. QUICK & DIRTY START-UP
  196. ----------------------
  197. We recommend that you make a backup copy of the master program
  198. disk(s) before installing or running WorldTime.  We also
  199. recommend that this program be installed to, and run from, a
  200. hard disk.
  201.  
  202. To get WorldTime loaded and running with a minimum of fuss,
  203. simply create a new directory or subdirectory on your hard
  204. disk (e.g., C:\WTIME21) and copy the entire contents of your
  205. master disk to that new directory.
  206.  
  207. WorldTime 2.1 does not access or require any files from
  208. previous versions.  As a result, you may safely delete all
  209. installed files from any previous version of WorldTime prior
  210. to installing WorldTime 2.1.
  211.  
  212. From Microsoft Windows, you can run this program from File
  213. Manager by "double-clicking" the WTIME21.EXE file entry or by
  214. selecting the WTIME21.EXE file entry and issuing the menu bar
  215. "File/Run" command.
  216.  
  217. Of course, WorldTime's icon can be easily installed into a new
  218. or existing Program Manager group for quick, one-step running.

  220. Once running, all configuration controls are accessed from the
  221. WorldTime menu bar and/or buttonbar controls.  A complete
  222. summary of all commands is provided in the WTIME21.TXT file
  223. and within the WorldTime help system.

  228. Warranty information regarding this product is provided in the
  229. ASCII text file, WTIME21.TXT and in the Windows Help file
  230. WTIME21.HLP.

  233. PRODUCT REGISTRATION
  234. --------------------
  235. WorldTime for Windows (version 2.1) is shareware, not freeware.
  236.  
  237. The single-user registration fee for this product is $16.00
  238. (U.S.).  Registrations ordered from outside the continental
  239. United States or Canada should include an additional $2.00 for
  240. shipping and handling.

  242. Multiple-user site licenses are available for this product.
  243. Site license registrations are a cost-effective way of
  244. registering several end-users for a substantially lower
  245. per-copy cost than individual registrations.

  247. Complete registration information, including printable
  248. registration forms, is provided in the WTIME21.HLP file
  249. shipped with the shareware version of WorldTime.  The
  250. WTIME21.HLP file is accessed via the Windows Help System
  251. -- menu bar command "Help/Contents."  Registration information
  252. is also provided in the ASCII text file, WTIME21.TXT.
