  7. I. Description
  8.     This is a Christams screen saver for Windows with a little twist!
  9. It contains the epitome of secular Christmas, Santa Claus, showing "blips"
  10. of the real Christmas story from the Bible.  Santa floats around the screen
  11. holding a sign which displays random Bible verses that pertain to the 
  12. birth of Christ.  Swirls of red and green will flash behind Santa
  13. periodically.  The verses will change every minute.  It is a simple little
  14. screen saver that I created for my PC at work, so that I would have
  15. something colorful displayed that tells the real meaning of Christmas.

  17. II. Installation & Use Instructions:
  18.     - Run the SETUP.EXE program
  19.     - It will place the screen saver file (XMASSAV.SCR) and the file
  20.       of Bible verses (BBLIPSXM.VRS) into your C:\WINDOWS directory,
  21.       and it will place this README.TXT file into the directory
  22.       specified by the setup program.
  23.     - To use it, open your CONTROL PANEL (usually in your MAIN window),
  24.       select DESKTOP, and select XMAS BLIPS from the list of screen
  25.       savers available.
  26.     NOTE: You must have the Visual Basic runtime module VBRUN300.DLL
  27.         in your Windows or Windows\System directory!

  29. III. Machine Requirements:
  30.     - Windows 3.1
  31.     - Arial true type font
  32.     - VBRUN300.DLL Visual Basic run module

  34. IV. Development Environment:
  35.     This program was written in Visual Basic V3.0 Standard Edition
  36.     on my home PC which is a 486SX-25 with 8 meg RAM.  I'm running
  37.     Windows 3.1 on top of MS-DOS 6.2 using the standard Microsoft
  38.     memory manager(HIMEM/EMM386), disk cache (Smartdrv). It was also
  39.     tested on a 486-33 running Windows for Workgroups.

  41. V. Verses & Graphic
  42.     - The Bible verses used by Christmas Blips are taken from the King
  43.       James version of the Bible.
  44.     - I have specifically placed the verses in a separate file so
  45.       that, if you want Christmas Blips to use verses that you select,
  46.       you can easily add them.  The format of the verses file (which
  47.       is called "BBLIPSXM.VRS") is quite simple.  It is a simple text
  48.       file with one verse per line!  Christmas Blips will handle thousands
  49.       of verses (but the program will slow down with a larger verse
  50.       file).  The maximum limit for a verse in the text file
  51.       is 252 characters.  But that many positions will never fit in
  52.       the Bible Blips window.  You'll just have to use trial and error.
  53.     - The graphic of Santa Claus was taken from a public domain pcx
  54.       file that I downloaded from a local BBS.

  57.     There is no registration required.  It is free!

  59. VIII. Standard Copyright and Disclaimer Stuff:
  60.     - You may copy and give this program to anyone you wish as long
  61.       as the 2 main files and this README.TXT file are kept intact.
  62.     - This program is free of charge but the author still maintains
  63.       all copyrights.
  64.     - This program is provided to you on an "as is" basis.  The author
  65.       assumes no responsibility for any losses or damages incurred
  66.       from the use of this program (but what could go wrong?!?).

  68.       trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.

  70. IX. About the Author:
  71.     I am a 17 year mainframe computer programmer (which means very
  72.     little when you're talking about programming on a PC).  I
  73.     currently have 2 other FREE Bible applications available through
  74.     several on-line services. One is called "Bible Baseball for Windows".
  75.     And the other is "Bible Blips for Windows".
  76.     My wife wanted me to learn Visual Basic so that I could write
  77.     some applications for her fifth grade classroom's PC.  She
  78.     teaches at Penn Christian Academy in Norristown, PA.  If you have
  79.     any comments, corrections, bug notifications (heaven forbid),
  80.     or ideas for other useful programs, please just let me know.

  88.         displays randowm Bible verses when run.

  91.         the old Sunday School game Bible Baseball that the author played
  92.         as a child.  It is available from several online services
  93.         including AmericaOnline and CompuServe.  It is freeware!
