** Bible Blips: The Screen Saver V1.0 for Windows **
**********************************************************************
FREEWARE FREEWARE FREEWARE FREEWARE FREEWARE
I. Description
A "blip" by defintion is a spot of light on a radar screen. A
"Bible Blip" is by my definition a spot of "light" (from the Bible) on
a computer screen.
Bible Blips: The Screen Saver for Windows is a Microsoft Windows
compatible screen saver. You place its files into your C:\WINDOWS
directory and select it from DESKTOP setting of your Control Panel.
When the screen saver is activated it will display one of 356
random Bible verses. The verse will float around the screen while
colorful swirls are drawn behind it. Every minute the verse and the
color of the verse will change.
II. Installation & Use Instructions:
- Run the SETUP.EXE program
- It will place the screen saver file (BBLIPSAV.SCR) and the file
of Bible verses (BBLIPS.VRS) into your C:\WINDOWS directory,
and it will place this README.TXT file into the directory
specified by the setup program.
- To use it, open your CONTROL PANEL (usually in your MAIN window),
select DESKTOP, and select BIBLE BLIPS from the list of screen
savers available.
NOTE: You must have the Visual Basic runtime module VBRUN300.DLL
in your Windows or Windows\System directory!
III. Machine Requirements:
- Windows 3.1
- Times New Roman true type fonts
- VBRUN300.DLL Visual Basic run module
IV. Development Environment:
This program was written in Visual Basic V3.0 Standard Edition
on my home PC which is a 486SX-25 with 8 meg RAM. I'm running
Windows 3.1 on top of MS-DOS 6.2 using the standard Microsoft
memory manager(HIMEM/EMM386), disk cache (Smartdrv). It was also
tested on a 386-33 and a 486-33.
V. Future Enhancements:
- ???? If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
VI. Version History:
- v1.0 released 12/30/94
VII. Verses
- The Bible verses used by Bible Blips are taken from the King
James version of the Bible. Why? For copyright reasons.
The King James Version is public domain. You can easily create
your own file of verses from any translation you want for your
own use.
- Currently there are 356 verses which will randomly come up.
- I have specifically placed the verses in a separate file so
that, if you want Bible Blips to use verses that you select,
you can easily add them. The format of the verses file (which
is called "BBLIPS.VRS") is quite simple. It is a simple text
file with one verse per line! Bible Blips will handle thousands
of verses (but the program will slow down with a larger verse
file). The maximum limit for a verse in the text file
is 252 characters. But that many positions will never fit in
the Bible Blips window. You'll just have to use trial and error.
VIII. Registration
There is no registration required. It is free!
IX. Standard Copyright and Disclaimer Stuff:
- You may copy and give this program to anyone you wish as long
as the 2 main files and this README.TXT file are kept intact.
- This program is free of charge but the author still maintains
all copyrights.
- This program is provided to you on an "as is" basis. The author
assumes no responsibility for any losses or damages incurred
from the use of this program (but what could go wrong?!?).
- Windows and Visual Basic are excellent products and are
trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
X. About the Author:
I am a 17 year mainframe computer programmer (which means very
little when you're talking about programming on a PC). I
currently have 2 other FREE Bible applications available through
several on-line services. One is called "Bible Baseball for Windows".
And the other is "Bible Blips for Windows".
My wife wanted me to learn Visual Basic so that I could write
some applications for her fifth grade classroom's PC. She
teaches at Penn Christian Academy in Norristown, PA. If you have
any comments, corrections, bug notifications (heaven forbid),
or ideas for other useful programs, please just let me know.
My address is listed in Bible Blips' ABOUT box. Oh, by the way,
you get to the ABOUT box by selecting screen saver setup while
you are in the CONTROL PANEL'S Desktop function.
XI. Other Software by the Author
- Bible Blips for Windows v1.2 - a simple little Bible utility that
displays randowm Bible verses when run.
- Bible Baseball for Windows v2.4 - a Bible trivia game similar to
the old Sunday School game Bible Baseball that the author played
as a child. It is available from several online services
including AmericaOnline and CompuServe.
Also, coming to a retail outlet near you...
- Major League Math Baseball for Windows v1.1 - a math adaptation
of Bible Baseball for Windows that is being released and
distributed to the retail market by Quorum Software.
