  22.     If you are upgrading to Professional Video Poker for Windows V2.0a
  23.     or higher from a lower version (1.5, 1.1, or 1.0), the program 
  24.     will NOT run correctly if you try to use the previous version's
  25.     save, defaults, or the payoff/stat files. 
  26.  
  27.     Be sure to answer "Y" to all file replace prompts when installing
  28.     this version.

  30.     -- The save files are those with the extension .SAV.
  31.     -- The defaults file is PVPOKER.DEF.
  32.     -- The payoff/stat files are those with the extension .P01 thru .P14.

  34. REQUIREMENTS:
  35. =============
  36.     Windows 3.1, windows compatible PC computer, windows compatible
  37.     VGA display with 640x480 resolution or higher, 3 Meg RAM, 
  38.     3 Meg free on hard disk. 
  39.  
  40.     YOU MUST BE RUNNING WINDOWS IN 386 ENHANCED MODE. Do not start 
  41.     Windows with the /S or /R switches. See your Windows Manual for 
  42.     more information on startup memory modes.
  43.  
  44.     Recommended:
  45.         Windows 3.1, windows compatible 386/486+ computer running at 25Mhz+,
  46.         windows compatible SVGA display with 640x480 resolution or higher, 
  47.         16+ colors, 4+ Meg RAM, 5+ Meg free on hard disk, Mouse. 
  48.  
  49. INSTALLATION:
  50. =============
  51.     To install this game from the distribution diskette, simply 
  52.     copy the file "PVPOKE.EXE" to the desired directory ("\PVPOKER" 
  53.     suggested) on your hard disk and run the program. 
  54.  
  55.     This is a self-installing packed file and running it will unpack
  56.     and install all the needed files and programs. Once self-install
  57.     process is complete, this file (PVPOKE.EXE) can be removed. 
  58.     However, you should always retain a copy of this file on diskette
  59.     or tape just in case you need to reinstall it in the future. 
  60.  
  61.     If a message appears asking you whether or not you wish to replace
  62.     an existing file in the PVPOKER directory, answer with a "Y". DO
  63.     NOT USE    OLD FILES WITH A NEW VERSION - FATAL ERRORS WILL RESULT.
  64.  
  65.     NOTE: After the installation process is complete, the install
  66.     program will try to run the game program automatically. This 
  67.     should be successful providing the install process was completed
  68.     successfully and Windows could find a valid copy of the 
  69.     VBRUN300.DLL file in the PVPOKER directory or in the common
  70.     WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. 
  71.  
  72.     To start the game manually, run the file PVPOKER.EXE from Windows
  73.     File Manager or click on the PVPOKER icon installed into the GAMES
  74.     Program Group (or the program group you selected).
  75.  
  76.     The icon file PVPOKER.ICO contains the icon for you to use if you wish
  77.     to manually add this game to your Games Program Group or set up new
  78.     Program Group just for this game. Please see the Windows Users Manual
  79.     for instructions on adding Program Items and setting up Program Groups
  80.     from the Windows Program Manager.
  81.  
  82.     NOTE: Be sure you are running Windows Version 3.1 or higher and your
  83.     are running Windows in "386 Enhanced Mode" (not Standard Mode). Check
  84.     your \WINDOWS directory    and see if you have a WIN.BAT file. 
  85.     Be sure the WIN.COM or WIN command in the batch file DOES NOT include
  86.     the /S switch. This causes Windows to start in Standard Mode. Be sure 
  87.     the command is followed by blanks or /E to insure you start in Enhanced
  88.     Mode. Otherwise, this game may not operate correctly. If you cannot see
  89.     the 386 Enhanced Program Item (icon = computer chip) on the Windows 
  90.     Control Panel, then you are not running Windows in the Enhanced Mode. 
  91.     Please see your Windows Users Manual for more information.
  92.  
  93.     Also, once you are running Windows in 386 Enhanced Mode, you should set
  94.     up as large a Permanent Swap File (not Temporary) as Windows will allow.
  95.     This allows Windows to use free disk space as computer memory and it will
  96.     allow you to run bigger programs. This is done from Windows Control Panel
  97.     with the 386 Enhanced Icon.
  98.  
  99.     This program was written in Visual Basic V3.0 and REQUIRES the Visual Basic
  100.     V 3.0 Runtime Library file called VBRUN300.DLL (included). Be sure
  101.     this file is located in the same directory where you loaded and unzipped
  102.     PVPOKE.EXE.
  103.  
  104.     NOTE: Occasionally, Microsoft will release an updated VBRUN300.DLL file
  105.     which will correct some bugs in their runtime modules. You should 
  106.     periodically compare the date/time/size of this file to the latest
  107.     one available on CompuServe in the Microsoft MBASIC+ Forum. If a 
  108.     later one is released, please download it and place it in the 
  109.     PVPOKER directory. This game will use it automatically from then on.

  141. BASIC OPERATION:
  142. ===============
  143.     This game program is a true windows application which can be run and 
  144.     controlled by you just like any other windows application.
  145.  
  146.     When first loaded, the game will display its opening window while it
  147.     initializes itself. Next a the main playing table will be displayed.
  148.  
  149.     When the game starts, it will load a file called "PVPOKER.DEF" as 
  150.     the default rules and other game settings. If it cannot find this
  151.     file, it will use its own pre-programmed default settings. See the
  152.     next section for more information regarding saving/restoring games
  153.     and the default settings.
  154.  
  155.     Next, the game will attempt to load the default payoffs and cummulative
  156.     stats for all 14 of the games available for play. These    are found in the
  157.     files PVPOKER.P01...P14. If any of these files are not found, the 
  158.     game program will automatically create them up based on its own 
  159.     pre-programmed settings. 
  160.  
  161.     When the main playing window is first displayed, you will notice several
  162.     buttons at the bottom of the screen. Some of which will be disabled
  163.     (grayed out) and some of which will be enabled. At the start of a
  164.     new hand, the DEAL button will be the default button and should be
  165.     used to deal the next hand. To deal, move the mouse pointer to the
  166.     DEAL button and press the left mouse button.
  167.     
  168.     The other buttons will be enabled/disabled depending on what is
  169.     happening during the game. For example, once the initial cards are 
  170.     dealt for a new hand, the DEAL button will be grayed out and the
  171.     DRAW button will be active. 
  172.  
  173.     DEAL BUTTON:
  174.     ===========
  175.     The DEAL button will deal the initial 5 cards for a new hand. Note:
  176.     you must bet at least 1 credit before this button will work. Once you
  177.     play your first hand, pressing the DEAL button before selecting a new
  178.     bet will cause the LAST BET to be used automaticall
