  13.           The way it works is this.  To enter the tournament,
  14.           you must become a subscriber to this program.
  15.           This is a nominal fee and will entitle you to free
  16.           upgrades, books about the game, manuals, chess tips,
  17.           a chess magazine, a score of free programs, a PLAYER'S 
  18.           REGISTRY so you always have someone to play against, 
  19.           AND FOR A LIMITED TIME, A $1,000 DISCOUNT COUPON FROM
  20.           A LEADING COMPUTER CATALOG!

  22.           BUT TO GET THIS $1,000 IN FUTURE DISCOUNTS YOU NEED
  23.           TO SUBSCRIBE TODAY.  THIS OFFER WILL EXPIRE JUST 30
  24.           DAYS AFTER YOU RECEIVE THIS PROGRAM.  SO ACT NOW!

  26.           REGISTRATION IS ONLY $15.00 PER PLAYER. If you have an
  27.           opponent who wants to be entered into the tournament,
  28.           he must also register this program.

  30.           Then, there is also a one-time Tournament Entry Fee of
  31.           $5.00/ROUND.  The entry fees we collect goes into the prize
  32.           fund and could total as high as $500,000 if only 50,000
  33.           people enter the tourney.  We have done our homework
  34.           and we find that there are about 10 million good chess
  35.           players in this country, and we are spreading word of
  36.           this tournament through every BBS and computer network
  37.           we know of.  So, the odds of getting at least 50,000
  38.           players are exceedingly good. (Don't try to figure out
  39.           the exact math.  There is an administration fee that
  40.           makes it too difficult, but these are good round figures
  41.           to go on.)

  43.           But if we totally fail and only get a few thousand 
  44.           players, the prize money will still be worth going after, 
  45.           say $200,000 for 20,000 ENTRANTS.  See how it works?  
  46.           This is still worth going after and the fewer
  47.           people entered the better are your chances of winning.

  49.           WE'LL PROBABLY ATTRACT SOMETHING BETWEE THE WORST CASE
  50.           AND THE BEST CASE SCENARIO AND THE PRIZE MONEY WILL
  51.           PROBABLY BE AROUND $400,000.00  (But this will be slit
  52.           amongst the top three players, the Champion to get 
  53.           70% of the purse, 2nd place takes 20%, and 3rd place
  54.           takes 10%)

  56.           But this also means that if you're really good at Chess
  57.           you should help us get entrants by simply passing this
  58.           disk around and helping us to promote it.  Upload it 
  59.           to every local bulletin board.  If only one person in
  60.           each city does this, we'll get many thousands of entrants.
  61.           SO, the prize money could go as high as a cool ONE MILLION
  62.           DOLLARS, if you help by distributing this program every
  63.           way you can think of.

  67.           BUT FOR NOW.  Why not go to the ORDER FORM menu and
  68.           print out the order form and sign up with the Chess
  69.           Registration Part.  That done, you can begin to play
  70.           your friends and sharpen your skills.

  72.           Here's how the Contest works.  AFTER YOU REGISTER,
  73.           we will send you an official Modem Chess Challenge
  74.           Kit.  In it, you will find all the rules and the 
  75.           method of moving up in the Challenge to become a 
  76.           finalist.  You will also be registered in our 
  77.           database, so that every time you move up, the results
  78.           are recorded and we can then match you up with your
  79.           next opponent.

  81.           You will play a total of 12 opponents to get to the
  82.           final round in which the prize money will be distributed
  83.           as follows.

  85.           The 3rd place winner will
  86.           get 10% of the pot.  The 2nd place winner will 
  87.           receive 20% of the pot.  And the Champion will
  88.           receive the remaining 70% of the total cash prize.

  90.           Remember, this could total as much as a cool 
  91.           half Million Bucks, or even a cool Million, if
  92.           enough people enter.  In this case, 3rd place would win
  93.           $100,000, 2nd place gets $200,000 and the winner
  94.           keeps the balance of $700,000.

  96.           If the prize only comes to $100,000.  It's still
  97.           worth the time and fun put into it because the 
  98.           3rd place winner will get $10,000, 2nd place would
  99.           receive $20,000 and the Champion would receive a
  100.           very respectable $70,000.

  102.           So, you'll want to register right away.  If you're 
  103.           good and think you can win the big one, help us
  104.           distribute this program.  For every friend you give 
  105.           this program to, he or she may find ten more, so
  106.           there is a possibility of a geometric progression  
  107.           in entrants and therefore prize money!

  109.           If you think about it for a while, you could probably
  110.           get this program into a hundred individual players.
  111.           Every community has a couple dozen BBS'es and each
  112.           one of these has an average of about 1,000 members.
  113.           So, this should be your first job and it's easy.
  114.           It will only take a few minutes each upload.  
  115.  
  116.           Then, there are computer clubs all over town.  There
  117.           are schools you might be attending with computer 
  118.           classes and Chess Clubs.  There is always your local
  119.           mail man, who will gladly accept the disk and send it
  120.           anywhere in the world for you for a nominal sum.

  122.           But the best way we know is BBS's in your community.
  123.           Since this is a program already zipped up and completed,
  124.           your local SYSOP will be happy to receive this to
  125.           distribute to his members.  He gets paid for the time
  126.           that his members spend on his board, usually, so he
  127.           is happy to take on this program.  You can either 
  128.           send it to him on disk, or upload over the phone
  129.           lines, whichever method you find easiest.  Many
  130.           BBS operators don't publish their mailing address
  131.           for privacy reasons, so you will probably be best
  132.           off uploading to them.  They always publish this
  133.           phone number because they want the members to find
  134.           them.

  136.           Also remember that publicity is a good way to get
  137.           people to become entrants.  A story in your local
  138.           newspaper will attract many people who didn't even
  139.           know there was such a program on their local BBS.
  140.           Tell them about it and you'll get hundreds of people
  141.           to join the contest.  You can also call radio talk
  142.           shows and tell them about it.  Send a few Press
  143.           Releases to the Radio Stations, TV stations & news-
  144.           papers in your area, if you're really into PR and
  145.           want to learn how the Media works in this country.
  146.           It will be educational and who knows what it might
  147.           lead to, perhaps a whole new career!
