  3. Changes since WinZip 5.0
  4.  
  5. The main purpose of WinZip 5.0a is to address the compatibility issues noted
  6. below, but there are also a few improvements:
  7.  
  8. - Built-in ZIP and UNZIP are faster.  Please see the file CONFTEST.TXT for
  9.   information on the "Confidence Test" facility.
  10.  
  11. - The CheckOut dialog box now has an option to create icons for programs and
  12.   documents only, rather than for all files in an archive.
  13.  
  14. - You can drag and drop an entire archive by dragging from the status line.
  15.  
  16. Compatibility issues addressed are:
  17.  
  18. - Norton Desktop for Windows 3.0:  The new FileAssist feature moves controls
  19.   in the WinZip 5.0 Add dialog box so that they overlay each other.  WinZip
  20.   5.0a prevents this behavior.  It also works around a problem where
  21.   FileAssist interferes with the "Add Dialog" check box in the WinZip 5.0 New
  22.   dialog box.  Earlier versions of NAVW required the /auto parameter for
  23.   automated scanning.  Unfortunately, the new version of NAVW always scans all
  24.   drives when /auto is used, so WinZip no longer suggests /auto as a default
  25.   parameter unless the old version of NAVW is detected.  Archives created by
  26.   NDW that contain directory information use a backslash instead of the
  27.   standard slash; WinZip 5.0a handles this.

  29. - Central Point Desktop 1.0:  the recently posted updates in the CPSWIN forum
  30.   create ZIP files with header information that do not conform to PKWARE's ZIP
  31.   specification.  This version of WinZip works around this incompatibility.

  33. - Icon Hear It 1.0:  early releases of "Icon Hear It" prevent other
  34.   applications from receiving ToolHelp notifications.  This behavior prevents
  35.   WinZip 5.0 from detecting when an external viewer is closed.  To work around
  36.   this WinZip 5.0a includes extra checks to determine when viewers are closed.
  37.   These extra checks also make it possible for WinZip to detect when the user
  38.   closes the file being viewed in an MDI application without closing the whole
  39.   application.

  41. The following minor changes and fixes were made:
  42.  
  43. - If the "Always on Top" option is selected it is temporarily turned off
  44.   while viewing help (so that the help window is not obscured by WinZip).
  45.  
  46. - Added Ctrl+Y as an accelerator for the "Always On Top" entry in the
  47.   System menu.
  48.  
  49. - If the Program Manager is maximized the CheckOut feature will leave
  50.   it maximized.
  51.  
  52. - A more descriptive error message is issued if unzip operation cannot
  53.   create a directory because a file with the directory name already exists.
  54.  
  55. - Corrected the hot spots in the drag and drop cursors.
  56.  
  57. - The correct font size is now always saved.
  58.  
  59. - International support improvements and fixes:  date formats with year first
  60.   are supported, appropriate "thousands" and "time" separators are used, and
  61.   filenames and directory names with international characters are now always
  62.   handled correctly.
  63.  
  64. - Added status line message "you must add files before using this entry"
  65.   in the appropriate places.
  66.  
  67. - Added "H" accelerator to all Help push buttons.
  68.  
  69. - "Log To Drive" in configuration dialog box now has an accelerator.
  70.  
  71. - The "Save Extra Directory Info" checkbox in the Add dialog box now
  72.   causes WinZip to include the directory information in files selected
  73.   in the "Select Files" listbox.
  74.  
  75. - The "Make EXE File" action creates a "large model" SFX when an
  76.   LZH file contains subdirectories.
  77.  
  78. - File Info dialog box uses Configuration uppercase/lowercase setting.
  79.  
  80. - Added warning messages when trying to create archives that already
  81.   exist and trying to open archives that do not exist.
  82.  
  83. - Text in "WinZip is waiting for %s to complete" dialog box now fits
  84.   on a VGA screen.
  85.  
  86. - Pressing enter in the main WinZip window no longer resets the selection
  87.   to the first item.
  88.  
  89. - Tables and lists in the online help look better.
