  1. WinZip 5.0a Beta Test - Confidence Test Facility

  3. Description:

  5. This beta test version of WinZip includes a "Confidence Test" facility
  6. that will test WinZip's built-in zipping and unzipping by compressing,
  7. expanding, and comparing all files in a directory tree.  The Confidence
  8. Test does _not_ re-write or modify existing files on your hard disk.  It
  9. performs the following steps:

  11. 1) Create a temporary directory (e.g. c:\temp\wz1234)
  12. 2) Test each file in the specified directory tree as follows:
  13.    a) add the file to a temporary ZIP in the temp directory
  14.    b) extract the file from the ZIP to the temp directory
  15.    c) compare the extracted file to the original
  16.    d) delete the files in the temp directory
  17. 3) Delete the temp directory
  18.  
  19. Status information is written to the file C:\WINZIP.LOG.

  21. The Confidence Test facility won't be included in the final WinZip 5.0a.

  23. How to Use:

  25. From the Program Manager select Run from the File menu.
  26. Then enter the following:
  27.  
  28.     C:\WINZIP\WINZIP /TEST D:\
  29.  
  30. Substitute the appropriate directory for C:\WINZIP, and specify the
  31. drive and directory containing you want to test instead of D:\ (unless
  32. you want to test all files on your D:  drive).  Then press the OK
  33. button.  The remainder of the process is automatic.  If an error is
  34. encountered a dialog box will be displayed.

  36. Important:  if you find a file that does not pass the "Confidence Test"
  37. please ZIP it (with PKZIP) and send it to the address in the About
  38. dialog box.  If it is too large to send by email let me know and I'll be
  39. glad to send you a disk and a self addressed stamped envelope.

  41. If you don't encounter any problems there is no need to send the .LOG
  42. file, but I'd still appreciate hearing from you, since that will help me
  43. decide when WinZip 5.0a is ready for release.
