  1. Release Notes for HammerSoft Address Book Version 1.0

  4. If you are having trouble accessing any data files,
  5. keep the following in mind:
  6.  
  7. 1) If your data file is on a local drive you MUST
  8.    load SHARE.EXE to access the data.  This is a 
  9.    requirement of the Microsoft Access Database
  10.    engine.
  11.  
  12. 2) If your file is on a network drive, you do NOT
  13.    need to load SHARE.  In fact, due to problems
  14.    that SHARE encounters with the Novell Netware
  15.    drivers, it is a good idea NOT to load share 
  16.    when accessing files residing on a network.
  17.    What can happen if you do have share running
  18.    while accessing data on the network is that SHARE
  19.    will not release its locks on the file, causing
  20.    you to get error messages about share after 
  21.    you have made changes or additions several times.
  22.    The only way to recover from this is to reboot 
  23.    your machine.

  25. 3) If you have both a network and store your data
  26.    on a local drive, you WILL have problems.  It
  27.    may help to set the SHARE.EXE line in your
  28.    autoexec.bat file to C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500 or
  29.    higher. This way share has more locks available
  30.    to it and may not run out of them. If you do a lot
  31.    of changes or new entries to your database with 
  32.    both share and Novell drivers loaded though, expect
  33.    at least some problems with file locking.
