- problems providing all files are present and unedited.
- To run Othelllo, run OTHELLLO.EXE in the apropriate directory.
- ALL the files (excluding *.DOC's and READ.ME's) must be in the same directory.
- DO NOT edit or rename any of the files.
-
- When OTHELLLO.EXE is run, the main menu will then be displayed including
- the following options:
-
- -Start game :This option begins play of Othelllo with the
- presently set values.
- -Players :This option when chosen displays a sub menu with a
- list of players and "done". Done returns you to the
- main menu. Each of the others when chosen displays
- a sub-sub menu allowing you to choose the status for
- the choosen player: Human, Computer, or none.
- -Colors :This option allows you to define the foreground
- and background colors of the board while the game is
- in progress.
- -Board size :This option will prompt you to enter the board size.
- The board size may range from 4 to 100.
- -About... :This option gives an introduction on how to play
- Othello.
- -Quit :This option quits the program without playing the
- game.
-
- The main menu is quite easy to learn and is designed for both ease and
- efficiency. We are sure you'll find it not only very simple to use but quick
- to change the settings as well. All the current settings are displayed in a
- blue status box to the right of the menu.
- After all your preferences for the game are set, and "Start Game" is
- chosen, the graphical board will then be displayed and the initial pieces
- are placed on the board. To make a move, simply click on the square you wish
- to move in using the mouse. If this is an invalid move, the program will
- beep and wait for you to try again.
- You will notice to the up right hand corner of your screen will be
- displayed a status box showing the current player, the player status (human,
- computer, none), and the players' scores. The current player is indicated by
- a depressed button with the players # on it, located to the left of the box.
- Below the status box are several buttons:
- -LOAD :This option will load a previously save game.
- -SAVE :This option will save the game to file.
- -QUIT :This option quits the game and returns to DOS.
- -RESTART :This option returns you to the main menu.
- -POSSIBLE MOVE :When you click on this button, the button will
- remain depressed until it it pressed again. While
- this button is depressed, Possible Move mode is
- activated. This means that whenever you move the
- mouse over a square which is a valid move for the
- current player, the mouse cursor will become a "P".
- If it is not a possible move, the mouse cursor
- remains an arrow.
- -BEST MOVE :This option, when clicked, will cause the computer
- to determine the best move for the current player.
- It will then automatically move you in the square
- it has selected as the best.
-
- When the game is over (no player can make a valid move), the game will
- pause and wait for a key to be pressed, it will then exit the program and
- return to DOS.
-
- We believe that this program is very simple to use, and we do not expect
- that you will have any problems with it. We hope you enjoy this program and
- use it often.
