ABACOS.SC1 SC-7 REQUIRED
ABACOS.DY1
Included in these files are the terminals at Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay.
They are both located on Big Abaco, about thirty miles apart. Both are
active airports, particularly Marsh Harbour which serves the third largest
settlement in the Bahamas.(Wow!) There is some dynamic scenery, mostly on
the ground. Watch out for local air traffic at Treasure, tho.
The areas were created from personal observation, NOTAMS, Sectionals, aerial
photos, and the book "Airman's Guide to the Bahamas". Marsh Harbour has
wide shoulders on both sides and does have yellow edge stripes and center
lines. Treasure has a coral shoulder. Don't use the old 16/28 runway. It
is barricaded. Unicom is 122.8 but seldom answered. The terminal buildings
look about as you see them.
SC-7 had one of the runways wrong, and located across the road from where it
should be, so you may need the shareware program APT.FIX to delete an old
strip.
The following correct NAVAIDS are present:
Treasure Marsh Harbour
VOR 112.9 NDB 361
NDB 233 Fuel available
Lighted at night.
Caution - Large birds on runway
At times, you may think you notice two small islands out along the barrier
reef, about 12 miles Southeast of Marsh Harbour. They are usually not noted
on charts of the area. If you talk to some of the locals, they will explain.
It seems the mysterious cays are visited by Obidiah, a large dark man who
travels the Caribean and casts spells at times on the inhabitants. The
Bahamian Government, in order to discourage belief in this, barely recognizes
the existance of the islands. Of the two, Cayo Blanco is the largest, about
three and a half miles long. It even has a small hotel, a marina, and a
population of almost two hundred. There is a coral airstrip at one end, but
it is very rough, only about 1500 feet long, and has trees at the windward
end. It should only be used in an extreme emergency. The other island is
Lane Cay, about one mile long. Privately held, is has a main house, a care-
takers house, a dock, a beautiful beach, and little else. Both islands have
been known to be a stop-over for some rather dangerous people and should
probably be avoided.
Freeport and Walkers Cay are also available. Comments and suggestions welcolm.
