Golf Menu is a program designed to be used with Accolade's Mean
18. One of Mean 18's worst limitations is that it is designed
for a diskette based system and only displays three courses on
the course menu. GM solves this problem.
Golf Menu is Shareware. It is a Copyrighted program, it is not
Public Domain software, it is not Free Software. If you use Golf
Menu, you MUST register it. I feel that the registration fee of
$5 ($10 if you want a diskette with the latest version) is very
reasonable, I hope you agree. Please send your registration,
including your name, address and the version of GM you are
currently using to:

or indirectly resulting from the use of this program.
Golf Menu's purpose is to make it easier for you to select
courses when playing Mean 18. Instead of keeping the courses on
separate diskettes or in separate directories on a hard disk, the
courses (along with saved games and hall-of-fame files) are
stored in a single, compressed file. Since the common
compression programs reduce the size of a course by an average of
75%, this results in a substantial reduction in the amount of
disk space needed for your courses.
GM displays up to 105 courses on the screen. Five of the
displayed courses are configured as quick access "favorites."
Once you choose the course you want to play, GM extracts the
course and associated files and loads Mean 18. When you have
finished playing, GM will perform cleanup operations, so be sure
to exit Mean 18 normally.
To use GM, type GM at the DOS prompt. The first thing GM does is
check for configuration information. If it doesn't find
configuration information, you will be asked to supply the
necessary information. GM is equipped with six different
configurations. You also have the option of creating you own
configuration or modifying one of the default configurations.
After the configuration information is found or created, GM will
check for new course files in the current directory. If any are
found, the courses are added to the compressed file and removed
from the directory. Next, if there have been changes to the
compressed file, GM updates its course data . Then, GM displays
the available courses.

Courses are displayed prefaced by a '*' if there is an associated
saved game and/or by a '#' if there is a hall-of-fame file.
Normal courses are assigned a course number from 00 to 99.
Favorite courses are assigned a letter from 'A' to 'E'.
When the course menu is displayed on the screen, the following
keys are active:
- F1 allows you to change the configuration.
- F10 displays information on the active keys.
- Escape exits the program.
- The letters 'A' through 'E' choose and run a "favorite"
course from the favorites list.
- The number keys are used to highlight a specific course
number.
- The arrow keys, the HOME key and the END key are used to
highlight a course by moving through the list.
- Alt-A through Alt-E copy the highlighted course to the
corresponding position in the favorites list.
- Enter runs Mean 18 using the highlighted course.
When you have finished playing Mean 18, exit and GM will perform
cleanup operations and then exit to DOS. If you would prefer to
have GM circle back to the menu, it can be configured to do so.
Configuration
GM is designed to be easily configured or reconfigured. The
first time you run GM it will ask you which of the default
configurations you want. The default configurations are: ARC,
ARC/QARC/ARCE, PKARC/PKXARC, PKPAK/PKUNPAK, ZOO, or a
configuration using DOS commands and a subdirectory. GM can also
be configured for other compression/storage programs by changing
one of the defaults or creating your own configuration.
Please send any comments/suggestions to the address above.
