"CLOUDY SKIES" by Gene Lacy
December 17, 1992
"CLOUDY SKIES" is a set of SEE04 files which allows you to select
the type of cloud cover you wish "with or without 3-D cumulus".
Now you can easily change the position of the clouds in the sky,
reset cloud bases and change center point coordinants between
FS4 flight sessions. Line by line help included in the SEE04
"DAT" files to guide you.
The 3-D cumulus clouds were created with the Mallard's Aircraft
and Adventure Factory using the Static save option. AAF not
required to run these clouds, but what FS4 pilot wouldn't want
to have AAF!
Files included are:
CLOUDY.TXT - This text file.
CLOUD.SC1 - Base file to be placed in your FS4 directory. This
file contains nothing, it's just a base for the
SEE04 to enhance.
USCLOUD$.SC1 - This is a currently processed "CLOUDY" file using
the 3-D cumulus clouds. Copy to your FS4 directory.
USCLOUDS.DAT - Place this file in your SEE04 directory and process
it when you don't want the 3-D cumulus clouds.
PUFFY.DAT - Place this file in your SEE04 directory and process
it when you want to include 3-D cumulus clouds.
USCLOUDS.MAC - Place this file in your SEE04 directory for SEE04
multi-layer polygon cloud effects.
PUFFY.MAC - Place this file in your SEE04 directory for SEE04
3-D cumulus cloud effects.
Place the following Library objects in your SEE04 LIBRARY (LIB)
subdirectory:
CLOUD.SC0 - High altitude "large" polygon cloud.
CLOUD1.SC0 - Low altitude "small" polygon cloud.
CLOUD2.SC0 - Mid-altitude "medium" polygon cloud.
PUFFY.SC0 - AAF generated cumulus cloud "assembly".
Place the optional file, "PUFFY.AFX" in an AAF subdirectory if you
wish to modify the assembly of the cumulus cloud. Treat it just as
you would any aircraft file, but don't bother with the "flyable"
option, just use the static save unless you want a really, really
weird airplane to fly!
A HINT ABOUT "EASY-MERGING":
Within the FS4/ASD running environment!
Note the center coordinant and radius of the file you wish to
merge with USCLOUD$ (with FS4/ASD running). Select your currently
processed USCLOUD$.SC1 in your static scenery library and assign
the same center point coordinants and radius. Re-select your target
scenery for the merge and execute your merge process in ASD. You
should now have an ASD file with cloudy skies having the original
center point and radius as before so smooth trasition to adjacent
scenery areas will not be disturbed.
Enjoy cloudy skies..... but don't forget the rules if your VFR !
