NOTE FROM JIM ROSS:
This scenery will be a part of the set of scenery several FSFORUM
members are designing which will stretch from Omaha to Reno (for the
forthcoming FLYIN). Possibly there will be some modifications to these
files in the final version, but this material is so good that I thought
FSFORUM members (and other designers!) should see it right away.

OMARNO1 - RENO FLY-IN SCENERY FOR EASTERN NEBRASKA - Rod Conklin
76525,3706
These scenery files cover the area of western Iowa - Eastern
Nebraska from Council Bluffs, IOWA to a point just east of Kerney
Nebraska. The scenery features all pertainent navaids, airports,
and major land features (Interstate 80, other roads, rivers, cities,
etc.). Detail of land features, other than those around airports,
had to be kept at a minimum because of scenery file space limitiations.
Files:
This scenery consists of three files:
OMARN1A.SC1 - The Omaha area.
OMARN1B.SC1 - The Lincoln area.
OMARN1C.SC1 - The Grand Island area.
Each file has a corresponding dynamic scenery file.
One start-up MOD:
OMA.MOD - Starts off at the General Aviation area at EPPLEY.
The MOD is set for realistic mode with the engine off.
It starts out in a hanger which is for small aircraft,
so don't select a 747 or the owners of Sky Harbour might
get upset with you!
ASD Requirements:
To use this scenery, I recommend the following ASD settings:
Scenery file size: 48,000
Dynamic file size: 25,000
No. of Objects : 50
In addition, I recommend setting the display complexity
to COMPLEX and Display speed to MUCH FLICKER/FAST (Menu 2.E).
This will allow FS4 to properly keep up when displaying the
SEE04 objects.
Features:
1. All scenery areas contain major airports with hangers,
special SEE04 effects, etc. Cities and towns have
lights at night.
2. All airports have fuel facilities. Taxi into the hangers
or look for fuel trucks (with the dynamic scenery) or
fuel boxes.
3. Major airports have ATIS and the smaller airports have
a rough version of UNICOM to give you landing/takeoff
instructions. In general, the in-use runways will
always be the ones facing south. The dynamic scenery
has been set up with landings in this direction also.
However, the ATIS at some airports may direct you
to differant runways according to current wind direction.
The range for UNICOM is approximately 10 miles to prevent
interference from adjacent airports because most of the
UNICOM frequencies used are the same.
4. Major airports also have ILS approaches. Some have
NDB's at the outer markers (LOM's). I have used the actual
runway headings at the major airport (i.e. runway 35 is
actually 354 degrees at Omaha/Eppley. The smaller airports
had no actual headings listed so I used the exact heading
of the runway number.
5. Dynamic scenery features parked aircraft at all airports
as well as takeoffs, landings, touch-and-go's etc.
6. At CRETE, I have modified and included some scenery from
Jim Ross of the town of CRETE. This was the first scenery
file Jim uploaded and I thought it made a nice addition to
the area.
7. The Airport Facilities Chart will give you the particulars
about each airport. Some of the runways are turf, but the
UNICOM at smaller airports will always direct you to hard-
surface runways.
