Game 1.01
Doc 1.00 Lucky Numbers Documentation
By Thomas Ens
SUMMARY HELP
Lucky Numbers takes place during the year of 1993. You have one year to
win a million or better yet, a billion dollars. Using strategy and
finance skills you need to make important decisions on how to invest
your money.
The game starts off the day after you are fired from your job at the state
lottery. You have only $500 (if you start at the normal level) to invest
in the weekly lottery drawing. To help you decide what numbers will be drawn
each week you can use the contacts you made during your brief employment with
the state lottery.
The game is designed for use with a mouse but is fully functional the
keyboard. The [TAB] key moves the cursor forward or use [SHIFT] [TAB]
to move backward. You can also use the [ALT] key to bring down the pull down
menu system.
THE GAME!
Starting Up
-----------
When you first begin the game you need to enter your skill level. The skill
level you choose determines what your starting bank account will hold and
how many tickets you are allowed to purchase each week.
Click on your skill level or leave Normal as the default. Enter your name
and pick the numbers for your first weeks ticket. You may purchase as many
tickets as the skill level allows. However, you can only choose one set of
numbers for each ticket.
When you have completed entering the data click on WATCH THE DRAWING. The
lottery drawing will take place for the first week of the year and the game
has begun.
The skill level you choose will affect how difficult the game will be. At
the beginner level you begin with more money and are able to purchase more
tickets throughout the game. At the most difficult level, expert, you start
off with very little cash and are able to purchase less tickets.
Your first time playing the game you should begin at the beginner level
until you learn your way around Lucky Numbers.
Level Changes
-------------
Beginner Level -> Cash: $1,000 Maximum Tickets: 1500
Normal Level -> Cash: $500 Maximum Tickets: 800
Expert Level -> Cash: $100 Maximum Tickets: 200
Bribing Officials
-----------------
Your Reputation and it's effect: It is important during the play of the game
to watch the chart showing your reputation.
In your business, word spreads fast that you
are up to no good. There is always a chance
that you can be arrested at any time (even
with a good reputation). However, the better
your reputation (the more the chart is to
the right). The less likely it is that you
will be arrested. If you are arrested you
can lose a lot of money (to pay for your
release) and worst of all you can be held in
jail for SEVERAL weeks. Since the object of
the game is to become a millionaire by the
end of the year this can be a very tough
break.
Bribing officials is the best way to help
your reputation or, in the event you are
arrested, help you get out of jail quickly
and with little financial damage.
Meeting with your contact and crooked officials
is the best way to hurt your reputation.
YOUR LOCAL CHARITY ORGANIZER A donation can help your reputation go
up slightly. Word gets around quickly when
you give a donation. The larger your donation
the more people will here about your good
nature. There is a limit to the amount this
can help though.
EMILY: THE NUMBER DRAWER Emily calls the numbers on TV each night. She
also has a talent for allowing certain numbers
to appear. If you give her a bribe she may be
able to tell you one of the numbers that will
appear. She has a guilty conscience and will
not always feel up to taking your bribe.
MICHAEL SERVENT OF CTN Michael is the president of CTN (Clean The
Neighborhood). He works very closely with
the Police and could be a very good ally
if you are ever arrested. He can also make
your life miserable if you ignore him. If you
throw a bribe in his direction he is likely
to spread the word about what a good person you
are and help your reputation.
AARON SPEAL OF THE LOTTERY Aaron is the Chief Officer of the State
Lottery and your former boss. Aaron may be
able to provide you with one or even two of
the weeks lottery numbers. Bribing Aaron won't
be easy or cheap.
CHIEF WILLIAM SMITH The Police Chief, Mr. Smith is a valuable
ally in the event the police are investigating
you or worse, arrest you. He is also an expensive
person to bribe. He is a dangerous person to
ignore.
YOUR CONTACT
------------
Every good crook needs a good ally. Your chief contact can give you
valuable information about the status of the numbers in the lottery. It
is a well kept secret that the numbers pulled each night are far from
random occurrences. If you are lucky your contact can tell you which numbers
are being pulled. To increase their chances of winning the lottery officials
at the lottery house pull balls. For example, they may decide to pull
all the balls which are greater then 30. This is very difficult to detect
and guarantees that no balls greater then 30 will appear. Your contact
can supply you with this type of information. It won't, however, come cheap.
The more you win, the more your contact will charge you. This is the case
with most people you will encounter.
For further information and instructions during the game, use the pull down
menus under help.

LUCKY NUMBERS CALCULATING A LOTTERY NUMBER
Lucky numbers picks numbers at random. You can have the computer
pick a number for you. If you choose to have the software pick a
number for you the system will prompt you for your name and date of
birth. It will use this information to randomize six numbers. After
picking these numbers you can have the system print (to the screen and
printer if you choose) the pick 3,4,5, and 6. The system will use the
birth date and name you specify when it randomizes the number
