FLIGHT SIMULATOR PILOT
Version 1.09

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: I would like to personally thank Phil Baughn [MAILROOM BBS]
606-293-5119 and his associates Bernard N. Meisner, Leon F. Graves, Brad James
(meterologist), John Fleming and Sean Gayle for their outstanding contribution
of the WEATHER module contained in this little program and Pilot Master.
PURPOSE:
This program was written just for those special people who are serious FLIGHT
SIMULATOR users. It is basically a flight planning system for all of the
airports used on the MASTER FS disk and each of the 10 or so SCENERY disks.
I am an avid user of FLIGHT SIMUATOR and use it primarily to sharpen my radio
navigation skills. Since I am also a private pilot, I will, many times, pre-fly
a planned excursion on FS before I even begin saving up enough money for the
actual flight. By the time I have flown the same route using all different
weather conditions and VOR radians, I almost know the times in route to change
frequences for the next checkpoint or VOR and the actual flight is a snap.
I save my flight plans to disk and can use them over and over again changing
the flying conditions when I want to create unusual weather or other problems
that may creep up during the actual flight. Flying the FS Cessna 182 is
secondary to me as I mastered that a long time ago.
HISTORY:
The first version of FSPILOT was a simple flight planner which only used the
airports and VOR's on the MAIN FLIGHT SIMULATOR disk. It would allow you to
choose your departure airport and destination airport and enter up to 20
waypoints in between. In subsequent versions I have gone nuts in trying to make
it even more realistic and have ended up with a version that allows the user to
load scenery disk information for most of those produced by SUBLOGIC. That
includes a lot of different airports and VOR's and by the time all of the data
files have been completed you will be able to fly FS from JFK to TOKYO in
"real" time via VFR and IFR. (I hope they come out with Alaska and Hawaii,
otherwise I'll need to ditch in the Pacific several times.) SKEWING will solve
that problem.
This version has a more extensive HELP menu. It even includes a pictorial
diagram of the keyboard and the function keys and additional keyboard help for
the unfamiliar user of FS. For example, how to set communication(s) and
navigation radio frequencies, VOR and OBI radians, magnetos, edit flying
parameters, yoke control and all of the other keyboard routines. Just press the
"?" key at the main menu. (Shift is unnecessary)
FREEWARE:
I believe in the FREE exchange of "MOST" software written for a person's own
enjoyment. Therefore, FSPILOT is offered to everyone who wants it. I do not
require any donations (although I have received many thoughtful letters with a
few bucks and recommendations to improve the program.) So, please feel free to
distribute the program to your friends or other bulletin board systems at any
time. Those who want to contribute by creating new data files can do so by
copying the data files supplied in the ARCed version. The following information
is provided in the data files:
AIRPORT NUMBER/ AIRPORT NAME/ ATIS FREQ./ RUNWAY #/ NORTH COORD/ EAST COORDE/
VOR FREQUENCY/ VOR NAME/ ALTITUDE OF AIRPORT/ STATE
These parameters have fixed field lengths and, as I said, can be copied from an
existing data file. The files MUST be named SCENERYn.DAT where n=the scenery
disk supplied by SUBLOGIC. Use your favorite text editor to create your own
scenery disks. If you maintain the same field parameters as those supplied, the
program will work perfectly. Sorry, but scenery disk #10 can't be included. I
will be putting that information on the MASTER SCENERY DATA file as soon as
possible. If you do create new data files, it would be appreciated if you will
upload them to our BBS as users from all over the country log on for the latest
versions. To date, FSPILOT has been downloaded by over 3500 users from our BBS
alone. Someone out there likes to fly.
FLIGHT SIMULATOR ADVENTURES: Version 100
We have also created another exciting program called FSADV100 which
automatically gives the user 99 different adventure flights. All you do is
enter them into the program using the ESCape key and change the parameters
given. You can see scenery you never thought possible. You can fly right
beside the Statue of Liberty, under the Brookland Bridge or land in Central
Park. You can see the Twin Trade Towers or fly around Seattle's Space Needle.
With version 100 I have included 21 extra ILS approaches for those who want
to fly the localizers to the runways. This little program will save you hours
having to set up the proper flight conditions that you want or using the
skewing key all of the time. It puts you there immediately and, again, about
as many users have downloaded this program as well. I am working on a new
version of FSADV which will have more than 600 special flight parameters.
This will keep you busy for quite some time. Of course, many of these new
conditions will require that you purchase extra scenery disks as does this
version. It includes STAR San Francisco and Japan and scenery disks 1-7. In
addition to each flight scenerio, there are (sometimes) comical descriptions
for each adventure. You can print all of the adventures and keep them handy for
that extra special flying time you set aside.
PILOT MASTER: Version 1.09
For the private pilot who is as broke as I am, this new program will help you
file FAA type flight plans for over 500 airports in the continental USA. It is
currently called PM9.ARC on our BBS and includes all of the data files created
from the Jeppesen Airway Manual and current NOTAMS. Choose CENTRAL STATES,
WESTERN STATES or EASTERN STATES data files. You can create a complete flight
plan which automatically calculates great circle distances in statute miles and
kilometers. ATIS, VOR and APPROACH CONTROL frequences are included in each
airport directory. Fancy flight planning software was too expensive for me. I'd
rather buy fuel and time with my meager bucks. So, again I wrote this program
for myself and you are welcome to use it. I will be maintaining current data
information by updating the data files every three months. So, if you want
current information, call LINX BBS and download the new data files. This
version has a special module for adding, saving and loading AIRCRAFT DATA
files. It automatically calculates weight factors for the information that you
put in. Each airplane can be edited depending on the current loading conditions
and you can use the data for PRE-FLIGHT and IN-FLIGHT info.
I hope my flying brothers and sisters like these little programs. I use them
all of the time and never tire of the flight adventures or filing new flight
plans. I store them on disk and change the weather conditions whenever I want.
One of the best uses is to set your cloud cover #1 to about 500' bottom and
1500' ceiling and fly IFR to your destination. The thrill is breaking out of
the clouds just at touchdown over the numbers at the proper landing approach
speed of 75 knots. It's even more natural to set up crosswinds and still make a
runway landing using instruments alone. I set up different winds aloft and mark
my checkpoints and times on the printed flight plan just like the real thing.
As usual, send all hate mail to your neighbor across the street. I'm too
sensitive for that kind of thing. REMEMBER! We do not accept any responsibility
for the accuracy or inaccuracy of these programs. They are not to be used
lightly for "real" flying conditions. Pilots should always file a flight plan
according to FAA regulations.
HAPPY FLYING...
