Terminology & Conventions

FPK - Football Pool Keeper Program
Pool Keeper - Person who is running (administrating) the Pool.
Player - A person who is participating in the Football Pool.
YTD - Describes the period from the beginning of a league's season to the
present time, even if this period extends past end of a year.
EOY - This term is used to describe the end of a League's Season, even if
the League's Season extends past the end of a year.
Pool Data Base File - File that contains Pool Options, Schedule Data, Team
Names, Player Data and Misc. Data.
Keys:
ESC - This key will exit you from most screens.
Installation
------------
Procedures for installation of FPK and for loading any Schedules you may
have ordered are described in the README.1ST file. To display this file
on the screen type one of the following at your hard drive prompt.
TYPE \FPK\README.1ST | MORE <enter> (To display from Hard Drive)
TYPE A:README.1ST | MORE <enter> (To display from Install disk)
To print this file type one of the following at your hard drive prompt.

LICENSE AGREEMENT
Football Pool Keeper (FPK) is not and never has been public domain
software, nor is it free software.
FPK is Copyright (c) 1985,1990 by Franware Systems.
Non-registered users are granted a limited license to use FPK on a trial
basis for the purpose of determining whether FPK is suitable for their
needs. Use of FPK, except for this limited purpose requires registration.
Use of non-registered copies of FPK after a reasonable trial period by any
person, business, corporation, or other entity is prohibited.
Registration permits a SINGLE user the license to use FPK on a single
computer or on a different computer, but may not use the program on more
than one computer at the same time.
All users are granted a limited license to copy FPK only for the trial use
of others subject to the above limitations, and also the following:
FPK should be copied in a pre-install form. Please copy original
install disks or if downloaded from BBS, copy original compressed
file, if possible.
A nominal copy fee may be charged only for direct distribution.

STARTING FPK

Starting FPK Program
--------------------
Boot up your computer as usual until your Hard Drive prompt appears (i.e.
C>). FPK is compatible with most Terminate and Stay Resident Programs
(TSR's). If you use them and have difficulties Try FPK without TSR's.
Type: CD \FPK <Enter>
Then type one of the following:
Type: FPK <Enter> (non-Demo Mode)
Type: FPK DEMO1 <Enter> (Demo Mode #1)
Type: FPK DEMO2 <Enter> (Demo Mode #2)
Quick Demo Walk Thru
--------------------
Demo mode will give you a general overview of features and options of the
FPK.
Important: This Demo walk thru is not designed to give you an in depth
description of the FPK. You should read the manual for
complete detailed description of all features and options.
The manual is extensive and complete and should provide all
the detail needed for a full understanding of the FPK.
After loading FPK in Demo mode you should see DEMO MODE on the lower right
hand corner of the main menu screen. When you exit the FPK in Demo mode
the Demo Data Base File is not saved. Which means you can change any Pool
data for getting acquainted if you wish. When results are processed in
Demo mode the results will be based on the current status of the Demo
data. If you change anything it will be reflected in the result process
screens, but the result reports will always be based on the Demo data
before any modifications you may have made. There are some function
restrictions while in Demo Mode. However, this program has full function
and is not restricted in anyway, when not in Demo Mode.
DEMO MODE #1 is a NFL Pool with most Pool options in effect. Most of this
Demo's screens were used for the illustrations in this manual. There are
15 Players and the Pool reflects the status of the Pool after 16 weeks of
the Season have been played.
DEMO MODE #2 is a College Pool with most Pool options not in effect. There
are 15 Players and the Pool reflects the status of the Pool after 7 weeks
of the Season have been played.

The Demo Walk Thru will be performed in Demo Mode #1. When your are
finished with Demo #1 you can start Demo #2 if you desire. You will be
guided thru 2 procedures.

Starting FPK Program in Demo Mode #1

Boot up your computer as usual until your Hard Drive prompt appears (i.e.

Type: FPK DEMO1 <Enter> (Demo Mode #1)
After seeing the initial screen/s you will be prompted for printer setup
and then the main menu will appear. We will now simulate initial Pool
setup which consists of the following.

Type <7> from the main menu to see the Setup Menu.
Type <3> this screen is used to reset all Pool data for a new or existing
Pool.
Press <ESC>.
Type <1> this menu is used for setting all Pool Options.
Type <1> to see the first Pool Options screen.
Press <PgDn> to see second Pool Options screen.
These two screens are used for setting Pool options.
Press <ESC>.
On this menu you can set color, sound and printer type, explore if you
wish.

Press <ESC> you should see the Setup Menu.
Type <2> this menu is used to enter schedule and team data.
Type <1> this step is used for entering or changing schedule data.
Type <1> <enter> this is the first week of the current schedule for this
Demo Pool. You can enter up to 18 weeks of schedule data.
Press <F10>.
Press <ESC>.
Type <2> this step is used for entering or changing team names necessary
for your schedule. Press <PgDn> to see additional teams. You can enter
up to 400 team names.
Press <ESC> <ESC> <ESC> you should be looking at the main menu.
Type <4> this menu is used to maintain Player records & Lists.
Type <1>.
Type <1> <enter> this shows you all data that is stored for each Player.
It might look like it would be difficult to enter a Player but all that is
required to enter a Player is the Player's name. Entry of all the
remaining items on this screen are optional.
Press <F10>.
Press <ESC> <ESC> you should be looking at the main menu.
Type <5> this menu is used to print Player pick sheets.
Type <1> Let's print some sample pick sheets. You should be looking at
the pick sheet options entry screen.
Press <F10> to except the defaults and print the pick sheets. Depending
on your printer type you may be prompted for paper alignment.
Press <ESC> you should print samples of all the pick sheet types and the
game result sheets for your review.
Press <ESC> <ESC> you should be looking at the main menu.
That completes the walk thru for the Pool Setup Procedure. See the next
page for the Weekly Pool processing cycle walk thru.

We will now simulate a week's processing cycle which consists of the
following steps.

7. Print Player Pick Sheets
Type <1> from the main menu to see the Enter Player picks Menu.
Type <1> to see the enter Player picks screen.
Type <1> <enter> this screen is used for entering Player picks.
Confidence points (1-14,if used) and selected team (1=away,2=home) are
entered (for each game) together for faster entry. At the bottom of the
screen you would enter the Monday night points (NFL type Pool) or the Tie
Breaker game points (non-NFL type Pool) and specify the options the Player
wishes to participate in.
Press <F10> <ESC>.
Type <2> to display all Players that don't have their picks in for the
current week. Step 3 prints a report of Players who don't have their
picks in so it can be posted on the bulletin board if desired.
Press <ESC>.
Type <4> to Print Picks Audit Report. This report can be used to verify
the picks that have been entered for the current week.
Type <5> to Display Monetary recap. This screen can be used to review the
monetary aspect of picks that have been entered for the current week. You
can also press <F2> to print the screen for posting on the bulletin board
if you wish.
Press <ESC>.
Type <6> to Display Player Pick Summary. This screen can be used to
observe how many Players picked which teams and the average confidence
points (if used) the Players assigned for a given game. You can also
press <F2> to print the screen for posting on the bulletin board, if you
wish.

Type <7> to Print Players Pick Matrix. You should be looking at the Print
Players Pick Matrix Menu. This Menu prints all Player picks in a
spreadsheet type layout. You should print all Players Pick Matrixes that
are valid for your printer type. These sample reports will be very
helpful to you later when you are deciding which reports you wish to use.
You can also post this report on the bulletin board or make copies and
distribute to Players before games are played, if you wish.
Press <ESC> <ESC> you should be looking at the main menu.
Type <2> to see the Enter and Process Results Menu.
Type <1> to see the Enter Game Result screen. This is where you enter the
game results for each Week. You would enter the winning team for each
game (1=away,2=home) and at the bottom of the screen you would enter the
Monday night points (NFL type Pool) or the Tie Breaker game points
(non-NFL type Pool).
Press <F10>.
Type <3> to process and print preliminary results.
Press <enter> after reviewing the help screen. The prelim results are
processed twice. Pass 1 projects Monday's away team as winning then pass
2 projects the home team as winning.
Press <enter> for pass 2. These printed reports can be used to post on
the bulletin board on Mondays.
Press <enter> to complete pass 2.
Step 2 performs the same process as step 3 but does not print the prelim
reports.
Type <4> to process the final results.
Press <enter> after reviewing the help screen and the final results will
be processed.
Press <F10> to proceed to the Print Pool Results Menu.
We recommend printing all the result reports for your printer type so you
can review them.
Type <11> <enter> to print all result reports for your printer type. You
are not prompted for print control data, because in Demo Mode defaults are
used. These sample reports will be very helpful to you later when you are
deciding which reports you wish to use.
Press <ESC> you should be looking at the main menu.
Step 6 Restore Pool to Prior Week can not be performed in Demo Mode. This
step is NOT normally performed each week. It is used for restoring the
Pool Data Base File to the identical status it was in, just prior to
running the Results for the prior week. If you process Results and then
become aware of an error (i.e. not entering the proper results for a game)
you would use this step to Restore the Pool Data Base File. You would
then correct the error and rerun the Results and reports. This step is

not used often or might never be used but it's convenient to have, if
needed.
The remaining steps in the Weekly cycle you have already seen during the
Pool Setup walk thru. The descriptions below describe when they would
normally be used.
Maintain Player Records and Lists - Perform this step only if you need
to add, change or delete Players.
Maintain Schedule & Teams - You would normally perform this step only
if you are entering Schedule data on a week to week basis.
Print Player Pick Sheets - Perform this step if you are printing and
distributing pick sheets on a week to week basis or if you need to
print pick sheets for new Players or for Players who lost their pick
sheets.
This completes a Week's processing cycle walk thru. We recommend printing
the following (if you haven't done so already) to obtain a more complete
description of all features and options available with the FPK.
Type <7> from the main menu to see the Setup Menu and perform the
following steps.
Print Your Comments to the Author Form - We hope you will use this form
anytime you have a suggestion or any other type of comment about the FPK.
Print Football Pool Schedule Order Form - This form informs you of all
available Schedules you can receive from the author.
Print Registration Form - Information on Registering.
Print Football Pool Keeper Manual - The complete documentation for the
FPK.
Print Sample Football Pool Signup Forms - These forms give you an overview
from a Player's standpoint and can be modified for use with your Pool.

Set Print Options (F7) should be reviewed for possible change before
printing reports for the first time. Print options set at this screen
only effect reports printed from this screen and Option 7 screen (Print
Players Pick Matrix). Options selected will be retained for subsequent
printing. If you have a Epson compatible or a HP SII laserjet compatible
and the reports do not print properly try printer type 3 (other) which can
be selected on "Pool Setup Menu" on page 11-1.

Enter or Change Player Picks:
a. Verify that the pick sheet you are about to enter is for the
correct Pool # and Week #.
Enter Player # and Press <enter>.
Player # should appear on pick sheets or press <F9> to lookup
Player #.
You should see the above screen. The Player # and Name appear at
the lower right area of the screen so you can sight verify them.
The above screen is a sample for Demo Player #1.
b. Enter the following for Game #1:
Enter CONFIDENCE POINTS (if used) and Team (1=away,2=home) and
press <enter>.
If CONFIDENCE POINTS are not used enter Team only.
If you become aware of an error on a Player pick sheet you can
press <ESC> to clear that Player's picks and then enter the next
Player's picks. After entering all pick sheets, you can resolve

all incorrect pick sheets with the respective Players and then come
back and enter them later.
Repeat this step for each game.
c. Enter Total MONDAY NIGHT/TIE BREAKER Points and press <enter>.
IMPORTANT: Entry of these points is MANDATORY, because they are
********* used for tie breakers on the REGULAR GAME and GAMES
RIGHT OPTION (if used). This applies, even if the
Player is not playing MONDAY NIGHT/TIE BREAKER OPTION
(if used).
d. Enter GAMES RIGHT OPTION (1=Yes,0=No). If you are not using this
option it will not appear.
e. Enter MONDAY NIGHT/TIE BREAKER OPTION (1=Yes,0=No). If you are not
using this option it will not appear.
f. Press <enter> or <F10).
Note: Please notice that you can use the "+ Key" as the enter key
for faster entry, for those keyboards that do not have an
enter key on the numeric key pad. If necessary you can press
<ESC> at anytime to clear the Player picks you are currently
entering and restart your entry for that Player.
e. Repeat steps a-f for each Player.
Error Messages:
THERE ISN'T ANY SCHEDULE DATA PRESENT FOR WEEK ? - You have
not entered Schedule data for the current Week #. Schedule
data must be present for the current week before you can enter
Player picks or Print Players Pick Matrix.
PLAYER # IS NOT ASSIGNED - This is a invalid Player # because
you have not entered Player data for this Player #.
POINTS MUST BE 1 TO ? - CONFIDENCE POINTS is not in the range
of 1 to the highest game # for this week.
POINTS USED TWICE SEE GAME ? - CONFIDENCE POINTS for this game
were used for a earlier game.
TEAM MUST BE 1 OR 2 - Team is not 1=away, 2=home.
Please see the following pages for a completed sample Player Pick sheet
and the corresponding completed Player pick entry screen. This sample
Player Pick sheet has both the pick sheet and stub. Normally you would be
entering Player picks from one or the other, but we exhibited both parts
for illustration purposes.

From the Main Menu type <17>.
This menu gives you the option of using 4 different Players Pick Matrix
formats depending on your printer type. All 4 formats show all Player
picks for the current week in a spreadsheet layout. If you desire you can
distribute or post it on a bulletin board. This would normally be done on
Friday so Players can review it before the weekend.
Options 1-3 are NOT valid if you are NOT using CONFIDENCE POINTS for your
Pool.
The following page shows a description of Option 4 format only because
Options 1-3 use full printer function that is available for printing this
manual.
Note: We suggest that you print all formats that are valid for your
**** printer type in Demo #1 mode to assist you in deciding on which
report you will use.
A Check Mark will appear next to the last Option you selected so when
printed on a week to week basis the Check Mark will indicate which format
your using.
Set Print Options (F7) should be reviewed for possible change before
printing reports for the first time. Print options set at this screen
only effect reports printed from this screen and the previous screen

Recording game results on Game Result Sheets makes it much easier to enter
game results. If you are not using them, Please see "Print Game Result
Sheets" on page 8-8.
Entering or Changing Game Results:
a. Enter the following for Game #1:
Enter the winning Team (1=away,2=home,3=tie).
You MUST repeat the above for each game. Entering a winning team
for each game is required.
If you are processing a NFL type Pool and you plan on running
preliminary results you can enter either Team for the Monday night
game. It is not important which Team you enter, because
preliminary processing will project each Team as the winner. After
the Monday night game is played you should change the Monday night
winning Team, if necessary, before processing the actual results.
b. Enter actual Total MONDAY NIGHT/TIE BREAKER Points scored, press
<enter>.
If you are processing a NFL type Pool and you plan on running
preliminary results you don't have to enter total Monday night
points, because they are ignored for preliminary processing. After
the Monday night game is played you should enter the actual total

Note: Please notice that you can use the "+ Key" as the enter key
for faster entry, for those keyboards that do not have an
enter key on the numeric key pad. If necessary you can press

THERE ISN'T ANY SCHEDULE DATA PRESENT FOR WEEK ? - You have
not entered Schedule data for the current Week #.

- Preliminary Processing is setup for Pools that end each Week's
Schedule with a single Monday Night Game. However, if you want
to use it for non-NFL type Pools see the documentation.
- This step should be performed after all Sunday and earlier
games have been played and prior to Monday night's game.
- Prelim Result Processing is performed twice. Pass 1 projects
Monday's Away team as winning, while Pass 2 projects Monday's
Home team as winning.
- All Monday Night Point processing will NOT be performed.
- Updating and Clearing of ANY Data will NOT be Performed.

Please read the points on the above screen.
Menu steps 2 & 3 perform the same process except step 3 also prints
preliminary result reports so they can be posted on the bulletin board, if
you wish.
Occasionally NFL type (NFL,WLAF) Pools do not end a weeks Schedule with a
single Monday Night game. However, Prelim processing can still be
performed, if desired (see, Running Prelims on non-NFL type Pools, below).
When this situation arises you probably should not post Prelim result
reports on the bulletin board on Mondays. Consider the following:
1. The NFL occasionally will not schedule a Monday Night game if it
falls on a holiday.
2. The WLAF occasionally will not schedule a Monday Night game if it
falls on a holiday or will schedule more than 1 Monday Night
game. If more than 1 Monday Night game is scheduled the winning
combinations will be numerous, which can make interpretation of
Prelim result reports difficult for Players.
See page 5-6 which shows the Prelim result screens that are displayed for
each pass and the 2 pages following that show the corresponding Prelim
printed result reports (produced by step 3) that can be posted. They show
a recap of the prospective top finishers in each category. The GAMES
RIGHT OPTION and YTD STANDINGS categories will not appear, if you are not
using those options. If you need a description of the categories or the
information on these screens and reports, Please see "Print Pool Results"
on page 6-1.
Running Prelims on non-NFL type Pools
-------------------------------------

The Prelim process always assumes the last game scheduled as being a
Monday night game, so all Prelim screens and reports refer to that game as
being on Monday. It does this no matter what day the last game is
scheduled to play. For non-NFL type Pools this reference to Monday night
should be ignored. In most cases you probably would not want to print
Prelim reports for posting on a bulletin board anyway because the winning
combinations are numerous.
However, you can speculate results for any type Pool by guessing which
Teams will win any of the games on the Schedule and then run a Prelim.
For example, if you are processing a College Pool and games are played on
Saturday and Sunday. After the Saturday games are played you can guess
the winning teams for the Sunday games and run Prelim processing. You can
change your winning Team assumptions and rerun the Prelim as many times as
desired. Prelim processing will figure results on all the games twice
(2 passes). Pass 1 will project the away Team of the last game scheduled
as winning and pass 2 will project the home Team of the last game
scheduled as winning.
Error messages:

If you do not have any current results to print you will see this message
"There isn't any Results to load & print". This usually only occurs if
you restored your Pool Data Base File to a prior week and you have not
rerun the results or it's the first week of the season.
* These reports will not appear if their respective options were not
specified at Pool Setup.
Result reports for the last week processed can be printed or reprinted at
any time before processing Results for the following week.
Set Print Options (F7) should be reviewed for possible change before
printing reports for the first time. Print options set at this screen
only affect reports printed from this screen. Options selected will be
retained for subsequent printing. If you have a Epson compatible or a HP
SII laserjet compatible and the reports do not print properly try printer
type 3 (other) which can be selected on "Pool Setup Menu" on page 11-1.
There are 2 procedures for printing reports. You can select each report
separately by selecting the report # to the left of the report or you can
select Print Report Stream. Print Report Stream provides a continuous
printing function for all selected reports. You can press F9 (Change
REPORT STREAM) to toggle report selection on and off. When there is an
(X) present the report will be printed when you select Print Report
Stream. Report Stream selections will be retained for subsequent
printing. You can still print any individual report by selecting it's
respective report # regardless of it's Report Stream status.
Most Pool Keepers who run a Pool at work, will post the results of the

Pool each week on the bulletin board. Please review all the reports
before deciding on which reports you are going to use.
Note: We suggest that you print ALL reports from Demo #1 mode to get a
**** full visual concept of how these reports print for your printer
type.
The first 2 reports are identical in purpose. Report #1 takes advantage
of some Epson Compatible and HP SII Laserjet Compatible printer functions.
Where Report #2 should be used for all other printer types. After
reviewing the reports you should select only 1 for your use. If you have
an Epson Compatible or HP SII Laserjet Compatible you can use either
Report 1 or 2. However, we recommend Report #1 for Epson Compatible and
HP SII Laserjet Compatible printers.

This report prints an individual result report for each Player in the
Pool. This report can be used for processing and reporting a Pool on a
remote basis. Many users of this program use it to process a Pool for
friends or associates that they might not see on a regular basis. For
example, fraternities, clubs, team members or any other kind of group.
Instead of sending all the result reports each week you can send each
Player his individual result recap report along with a YTD Standings
report every 3rd week.
Note: If you specified, Print Indivl = No, on the Player record for a
Player, an Individual Result report will not be printed for that
Player unless he plays. For clarification see item "Print Indivl"
on page 7-3.
Each report can be folded so the name & address can be positioned to
appear in the window of a windowed envelope. You also have the option of
printing Player labels, see page 7-1.
When this report is requested (in non-Demo Mode) you will be prompted with
the following, so you can enter the Player #'s you want to print. The
defaults for Player #'s will print a report for all active Players. You
also have the option of entering a message that will be printed on each
Players individual result report. When printing this report in Demo Mode
you will not be prompted for the following because the program will
default to values that are appropriate for the Demo.

and Middle Initial (if used). That is, if you enter the names normally,

Result report will be printed for him only if he plays. When a Player
plays in the Pool intermittently and you want to print an Individual
Player Result report for him whether he plays or not, specify Yes, if you
don't, specify No. If a player is not going to play the remainder of the
season you would probably specify No. You also have the option of
deleting Players that are not playing. We do not recommend deleting
Players until the EOY, so they can continue to appear on the YTD Standings

There are 3 basic Pick Sheet preparation procedures.
1. If you entered the entire Season Schedule for your Pool, we
recommend printing Player Pick Sheets for all Weeks of the Season
for each Player at the beginning of the Season. With this
procedure you will not have the difficulty in distributing Player
Pick Sheets during each Week of the Season.
2. If you are entering Schedule Data on a Week by Week basis you
should also print Player Pick Sheets and distribute them on a
Week by Week basis.
3. Print Pick Sheets for new Players added during the Season and
replacements for Players who have lost their Pick Sheets.
Pick Sheets are printed on letter size paper. If you do not have a Epson
Compatible or HP SII Laserjet compatible be sure you set your printer to
print 66 lines per page.
If your Players have copy machine facilities you might prefer Pick Sheets
without stubs. Players can make copies of their picks before submitting
them. If they can not be copied you should use Pick Sheets with stubs.
You can also use Pick Sheets without stubs and print them on 2 part paper
if available.
We suggest printing a sample of all 4 Pick Sheet types on your printer,
before deciding on which you prefer. You can print them from Demo #1 Mode
or enter a least 1 Player before printing Pick Sheets for your Pool.

From a paper bulk and ease of use standpoint we recommend half page with
or without stub Pick Sheets. Especially for continuous form printers.
After printing half page Pick Sheets, they can be separated by the half
page, stacked and stapled in half page size packets.
Note: Half page Pick Sheets are setup to print 33 lines per Pick Sheet
(2 per page). HP SII and other laser printers will print half page
Pick Sheets a little offset from the way a continuous feed type
printer would. When half page Pick Sheets are separated and stacked
together they look a little odd. From a format and usability
standpoint they are fine. If you dislike this appearance you can
use one of the full page Pick Sheets.

This step is used for restoring the Pool Data Base File to the identical
status it was in just prior to running the Results for the prior week.
Each week when Pool Result processing is performed the exact status of the
Pool Data Base File is saved prior to processing the Results. This saved
file is used by this step (when requested) for restoring the Pool Data
Base File.
If you process Results and then become aware of an error (i.e. not
entering the proper results for a game) you would use this step to Restore
the Pool Data Base File. You would then correct the error and rerun the
Results and reports.
This step could also be used to Restore when you unintentionally destroy
or modify some Pool Data. For example, if you accidentally deleted
players, schedule data, teams or pool options. If Restore is used for
this purpose you should still rerun Results immediately after Restore.
Restoring is only available for the prior week. For example, after
processing Results for week 4 (current week would then be 5) you can
Restore to the status just prior to week 4 Result processing, but not to a
week 3 or earlier.

Use this step to setup the options you want for your pool. Normally you
would set these options at the beginning of the season, however, you can
change most of them at any time during the season. All default values on
the next two screens on page 11-2 can be changed to meet your
requirements.
After reviewing the Pool options on the following pages you should:
- Start FPK in DEMO #1 mode to get a better understanding on how these
options affect Pool processing. DEMO #1 has all Pool Options in
effect. You should also print all sample result reports for review,
while in DEMO #1 mode. Please see "Quick Demo Walk Thru" on page
2-1.
- You should print Sample Football Pool Signup Forms (see page 1-2) to
get an overview from a Players viewpoint.
- You should review most of the User Manual, before making your final
decision on your Pool options.

Enter a unique Pool Title. This Title is optional and if present it will
print at the top of most reports. If you are processing a Pool for the
whole company you might want to enter a company name (i.e. ABC
Construction). If you are processing multiple Pools by department you
might want to enter company name & department name or just department name
(i.e. ABC Construction - Accounting Dept., Credit Dept.).
(Y/N) NFL Type Pool, Each Weeks Schedule ends with a single Monday Night

If the Pool you are processing ends a week's schedule with a single Monday
night game enter Yes. The National Football League (NFL) and the World
League of American Football (WLAF) are currently (at the time of this
documents creation) the only two leagues for which you would enter Yes.
For all other leagues you should most likely enter No. This option
facilitates running preliminary results on Monday before the Monday night
game is played.
(Y/N) Print early Game Warning Message on Pick Sheets

Pool Players should have their picks in before the first game is played
each week. Some leagues have games during the week and this option will
help notify the Players that there are early games. A message will be
printed on their Pick Sheets for all weeks when early games are scheduled.
This message will remind the Players to submit their picks earlier then
usual for a given week. When entering your schedule you will define which
games are considered to be early games. For example, the NFL has an
occasional game scheduled before Saturday or Sunday.
For the NFL there is usually a game on Monday night each week, but that
game is NOT considered an early game because, it is associated with the
schedule for the prior week. Each week's schedule for the NFL officially
starts on Tuesday and ends on Monday and early games are usually scheduled
on Thursdays. This option should most likely be used for NFL and College
schedules. But you can use it for any league if it fits your needs.
Please see, "Maintain Schedule" on page 12-1, for further discussion on
defining early games.

Enter the percentage that the second place winner will receive each week
from the total amount available to distribute for the REGULAR GAME. If

provides for one more winner per week which often gives Players more
interest in playing.
(Y/N) Use Confidence Points (1 to # of Games per Week)

Enter Yes, if you desire the CONFIDENCE POINTS system to be in effect for
the REGULAR GAME. When a team is picked to win each Player must also
assign a CONFIDENCE POINT number which indicates his confidence in that
pick.
For example, if there are 14 games in a given week each Player must assign
each number from 1-14 to each game. The game the Player has the most
confidence in, he would assign 14 points, the game with the least
confidence 1 point. There would be 105 CONFIDENCE POINTS available in a
week with 14 games (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12+13+14=105).
Each Player must use each number from 1 to the number of games played each
week only once. The CONFIDENCE POINTS assigned to all the games the
Player predicted correctly are totaled. Any games not predicted correctly
by the Player results in zero CONFIDENCE POINTS for that game. If a game
ends in a tie all Players would be awarded the CONFIDENCE POINTS for that
game. The Player with the most CONFIDENCE POINTS for a given week wins
the REGULAR GAME for that week.
If you enter No, the winner of the REGULAR GAME will be the Player that
predicted the most GAMES RIGHT (correct games). A tie game will be
counted as a right game.
Please see "Regular Game Results Report" on Page 6-8, which might better
clarify how this option would affect the REGULAR GAME.

This option can be Yes ONLY if you entered Yes for use of CONFIDENCE
POINTS above. If you entered No for CONFIDENCE POINTS the REGULAR
GAME would be based on games right and there would be no purpose in
this option.
If you enter Yes, the program will declare a separate winner for the
participating Players that picked the most GAMES RIGHT. A tie game
will be counted as a right game. This option is designed to reward
the Player that might not have CONFIDENCE POINTS high enough to win
the REGULAR GAME, but had the distinction of having the most GAMES
RIGHT. The Player that has the highest CONFIDENCE POINTS, quite often
does not have the highest GAMES RIGHT.
This option also provides for the possibility of one more winner per
week which often gives Players more interest in playing. There are
usually some Players that want to play for more than others in the
Pool and this option gives them that opportunity. For example, the
amount each Player contributes to play the REGULAR GAME is the minimum
amount required to play in the Pool. However, if some Players wish to
chance more, they can also play (for an additional amount) in this
option. Obviously, only those Players that play this option have a
chance of winning the total amount received from all Players that play
this option.
Each Player has the option to play in this option on a weekly basis.
This option can be difficult to understand, because it is an option at
the Pool level (by entering yes here) and at the weekly level (where
each Player has the option to play each week).

together will score in the Monday night game (NFL-type Pool) or tie
breaker game (non-NFL-type Pool). This option should always pertain to
the total points scored in the last game scheduled each week. The Player
that predicts the nearest total points would be the winner. The total
points predicted can be over or under the actual points scored and still
be a winner, if the total is the nearest.

Players YTD data will be printed on this report. This report has many
features and we recommend using it, even if you are not using the Pot of
Gold feature described below.

Regular Game Deduction % for Pot of Gold (0-50)

This Pot of Gold (POG) feature is optional, but can only be
entered if you entered Yes for using YTD Standings Report above.
Enter percentage that will be deducted from the total amount to
distribute for the REGULAR GAME. This weekly POG amount will be
accumulated each week for the entire Season. The total POG amount
at the EOY will be distributed based on Player standings on the
YTD Standings Report.
Because all Players are eligible to win the POG this feature gives
Players more incentive to play in the Pool each and every week.
If a Player doesn't play the REGULAR GAME even 1 week his chance
of winning the POG is very unlikely.
If you do not want the POG feature enter blanks.

There are print options that can be selected from the following step menu
screens. Each of these screens has the option (F7=Set Print Options)
which should be used (if desired) to select the print options that are

the capability for using letter or legal for all report printing. If
all your printing is not for one size you may have to make paper tray
changes when going from one size to the other depending on the laserjet
printer you have. However, you can mix paper sizes if you wish.
Type 3 (All other Printers)

From the Main Menu type <721>
You can mix any game types on your Schedules. For example, High School,
College and Pro. The FPK was designed primarily for Football, but you can
also use it for any type Sport. (i.e. Baseball, Basketball, Soccer).
There are 2 basic Schedule setup procedures:
1. Entering entire or remaining Season's Schedule during initial Pool
setup. If the entire or remaining Season Schedule is available we
recommend entering the entire Schedule.
2. Entering each Week's Schedule on a week by week basis. Which
means, you would determine the games you are going to schedule and
enter each week during the Season.
Warning: Each Week the Result Processing step tries to determine if
******* the Current Week # is the LAST Week of the Season, so the
proper EOY processing can be performed. If the Current
Week # and the highest Schedule Week # entered are equal
Result Processing assumes EOY.
If you enter your Schedule on a Week by Week basis you
must keep Schedule Data at least 1 Week ahead of the

Current Week # through the whole Season, except for the
last Week (EOY). For example, if the Current Week # is 1
you must have Schedule Data entered for Week #2 before you
run the Results for Week #1. To circumvent this
restriction you can enter a single game (a real or dummy
game) for Week #2 before running Results for Week #1.
Then determine your Week #2 Schedule Data and enter it
before printing Player Pick Sheets for Week #2. If you
desire you can enter a single game (a real or dummy game)
for all remaining weeks you plan on scheduling at initial
Pool setup.
Preparing and Entering Schedule Worksheets:
1. At initial Pool setup ONLY, if you haven't already, you should
clear all weekly Schedule Data using step "Clear & Reset Pool
Data" (see page 13-1) before entering a new Schedule.
2. You should have already confirmed or entered all Team Names
needed for the Schedule Data you are going to enter.
3. You should have printed a Team List.
4. There are 2 methods for entering Schedule Data.
a. You may enter Schedule Data by selecting Teams interactively
from a window. The data that must be entered is the same as
using procedure b. (Worksheets) below. If your not going to
use Worksheets you should still read step 5 below to
understand the data that must be entered. Then proceed to
step 6 to enter your Schedule.
b. To utilize Worksheets for Schedule preparation use step
"Print Schedule Worksheets" on page 12-1. You will need 1
Worksheet for each Week you are going to Schedule. You might
be saying why Worksheets. Some of our users feel that
Schedule Worksheets are more efficient and accurate then
screen interaction for Schedule preparation.

Working from your Schedule Source:
a. Write the Schedule Week # on each Worksheet. If you are
starting a Pool for a league who's schedule has been
partially played you do not need to prepare Worksheets for
the weeks played. However, you should prepare the first
Worksheet with the proper week #. For example, if 4 weeks
have been played you should start with week 5. Make sure
you specify "Current Schedule Week #" (see page 11-7) in
Pool options for the same week.
b. Determine the date that the Schedule Week begins. This date
should always precede the date of the first game played each
Schedule Week. The NFL and WLAF Schedule Weeks should start
with a Tuesday (because of Monday games). College Schedule
Weeks should start with a Monday. The day (i.e. Monday,
Tuesday) associated with the begin date can vary from Week
to Week (non NFL,WLAF and College).
Note: This date is VERY IMPORTANT because it is printed on
PICK SHEETS and RESULT REPORTS.
For example, suppose you are setting up a NFL Pool and games
for Week 1 will be played between 9/4 and 9/10.

The number of games Scheduled each Week can vary from 1 to
14 games. The last game scheduled each week MUST be the
Monday Night Game (NFL,WLAF) or Tie Breaker Game
(non-NFL,WLAF). This positioning makes it easier for
Players to determine your designated Tie Breaker Game on
their Pick Sheets.
Important: The FPK currently has a limitation of 18 weeks
********* per Season Schedule and 14 games per week,
however, higher versions will allow for more. If
you are Registered and this becomes a difficulty
for you. Please, contact us using the "Comments
to Author Form" you can print from the "Setup
Menu".
6. Enter or change Schedule with Worksheets (if used) as follows:
a. From the Main Menu type <721>.
b. Enter Schedule Week #, press <enter>.
c. Enter Week begin date, press <enter>.
d. Enter the following for game #1:
Enter Away Team #, press <enter> or press F9 to select
Team.
Enter Home Team #, press <enter> or press F9 to select
Team.
Enter Day Code if applicable, press <enter>.
Repeat this step for each game, then press <F10>
Note: Please notice that you can use the "+ Key" as the
enter key for faster entry, for those keyboards that
do not have an enter key on the numeric key pad. If
necessary you can press ESC at anytime to clear the
Schedule Week you are currently entering and restart
your entry.
e. Repeat steps b-d for each Worksheet.
Error Messages:
INVALID DATE - Schedule begin date must be month (01-12), day
(01-31), year (00-99).
TEAM # MUST BE 1 TO ? - Team # is not in the range of Team #'s
that are currently loaded. The allowed range is 1 to highest
Team # loaded.
TEAM # NOT ASSIGNED A TEAM NAME - Team # was not assigned a
Team Name using step "Maintain Teams".
TEAM # THE SAME AS AWAY TEAM - A team can not play itself.

TEAM # USED TWICE SEE GAME ? - The same Team # can not appear
more then once on a Week's Schedule. There is a Pool Option
that controls this condition. If you want the same Team to
appear more then once, Please see, "Setup Pool Options" on
Page 11-1.
7. When finished you should print the Schedule Data that you entered
to sight verify it with your Worksheets (if used) and Schedule
Source. Proceed to step "Print Game Result Sheets", on page 8-8.

Note: The FPK is shipped with the NFL Team Names pre-loaded.
If the Team Names currently loaded are the Team Names you need for the
Schedule you are setting up, press <ESC> and proceed to enter your
Schedule.
There are 2 basic Team Name setup procedures:
1. Entering Team Names needed for the entire or remaining Season's
Schedule during initial Pool setup. If the entire or remaining
Season Schedule is available we recommend entering all Team names
needed for entering the entire Schedule later.
2. Entering Team Names needed for each Week's Schedule on a week by
week basis. Which means, you would determine the games and the
corresponding Team Names you are going to schedule and enter each
week during the Season.
Enter or Change Team Names:
1. If you wish to clear all present Team Names before entering your
Team Names, perform step "Clear & Reset Pool Data" on page 13-1,
or you can enter your Team Names over the existing names.
Normally you would only Clear Team Names during initial Pool
setup.

2. Compile a list of all Team Names needed for the games you are
going to schedule and enter later. Each Team Name needed for the
Schedule you are going to enter has to be entered only once.
Enter the Team Names in any order and adjacent to any Team #.
When Team Names are later displayed or printed they will be
sorted in Team Name order. We do not recommend using all upper
case letters for Team Names. After entering 20 Team Names on a
screen press <PGDN> and enter the next 20. You can enter up to
400 Team Names. If you are entering Team Names on a week to week
basis you may add them as needed. You can delete any Team Name
at anytime, by entering blanks for that Team #, but we do not
recommend deleting Teams until EOY. If you are mixing Pro,
College or High School Teams you may have Duplicate Teams. If
you have this difficulty consider the following:

3. When finished press <ESC> to exit this step.
4. Upon exit you will be presented with the screen below giving you
the option to sort all Team Names into Team Name order. If you
are going to enter the complete or remaining Season Schedule
later, sorting the Team Names makes later Team maintenance much
easier. However, sorting Team Names should NOT be performed
after the first week when entering Team Names and Schedule Data
on a week by week basis. Note, when in Demo Mode you will not be
presented with the sort screen.
5. Perform step "Print Team List". Sight verify your Team Names for
accuracy and duplicates. This Team list can be used later for
Schedule preparation.
6. Proceed to step "Maintain Schedule" to enter your Schedule.

described on the above screen. Each individual option is described below.
After reviewing the following options, please see page 13-3 for recommended
option settings for initial Pool Setup and End of Season (EOY).
Warning: Extra caution should be given to all of these options because you
can unintentionally clear data very quickly.
Clear all Year to Date Player Data
----------------------------------
If you specify Yes, all YTD Player Data will be cleared. This will not
delete any Player Records nor will it delete any Player name, address,
phone numbers, dept. code, notes or print indivl status. This normally
would be performed at the EOY when you want to retain the general Player
Data for use next season.
Clear all Player Data (Delete all!)
-----------------------------------
If you specify Yes, all Player Records will be deleted. This normally
would be performed when setting up a new Pool or anytime you wish to delete
all the Player Records. If you specify Yes here, the above option has no
effect.

Clear all Weekly Schedule Data

If you specify Yes, all Weekly Schedule Data will be deleted. This
normally would be performed at the EOY or when setting up a new Pool.
Clear all Team Names
--------------------
If you specify Yes, all team names will be deleted. You should be aware
that these team names and the Weekly Schedule Data above are interrelated.
Deleting the Weekly Schedule Data above without deleting the teams here is
a valid circumstance, but deleting the teams without deleting the schedule
is not. Schedule Data is dependent on team names, but team names are not
dependent on Schedule Data. This normally would be performed when you no
longer want the team names that are currently loaded. For example, if you
presently have the NFL teams loaded and you are setting up a college Pool
you would delete the NFL teams before entering the college team names
needed for your college schedule.
Reset Pool for New Season (Current Week = 1,POG = 0)
----------------------------------------------------
If you specify Yes, Pool control data will be reset for a new season. The
Current Schedule Week # will be reset to 1 and the Pot of Gold amount would
be reset to 0. Both of these options can be maintained on the Pool Options
screen if desired. This normally would be performed at the EOY or when
setting up a new Pool.
Reset Pool to Default Pool File (Careful!)
------------------------------------------
If you specify Yes, your Pool Data Base File will be reset to the original
status it was shipped with. This means that all Player Data will be
deleted and the Schedule, Teams and Pool Options, will be reset to the
defaults that were shipped with the FPK program you received. The only
thing that is retained from the original Pool Data Base File will be the
Printer Setup you specified for that Pool.
Warning: Extra caution should be given to this option because you can
******* unintentionally clear a tremendous amount of data very quickly.

prompt (i.e. C>). Doing this will restore your Pool Data
Base file to the status it was in just prior to processing
results for the prior week. After the copy you will have to
rerun results for the most recent week to bring your Pool
Data Base File to the most current state possible.
COPY C:\FPK\WKPR##.DAT C:\FPK\WKCU##.DAT
2. If you do not have Prior Week Pool Data Base File
(WKPR##.DAT) above you can try the last resort by performing
the following copy at your hard drive prompt (i.e. C>).
Doing this will reset your Pool Data Base file to defaults
that the FPK was shipped with. Obviously, this means you
will not be able to recover your Pool Data Base File data.
COPY C:\FPK\DEFAULT.DAT C:\FPK\WKCU##.DAT
If you use this copy to recover Pool # 2-9 you must use step
(Select Pool) to delete and re-add the Pool # you are
recovering because the Pool # in the DEFAULT.DAT file has
Pool # 1 stored in it.
If neither of the above steps work you should probably
re-install FPK from the original media you received it on.
All other missing files can be recovered by re-installing the FPK
from the original media you received it on.
Note: If you are not missing your Pool #1 Data Base File and you
have a non-registered copy of the FPK, you should make a

received it on.

a backup copy of your Pool #1 Data Base File before
re-installing. Some non-registered versions of FPK will
overwrite the Pool #1 Data Base File (WKCU01.DAT) (if it is
present), but registered versions from the author will not.
WKCU##.DAT - If this file is corrupt it's unfortunate because this
file stores all your current Pool Data, try the following:
1. If you have a Prior Week Pool Data Base File (WKPR##.DAT)
for this Pool perform the following copy at your hard drive
prompt (i.e. C>). Doing this will restore your Pool Data
Base file to the status it was in just prior to processing

WKPR##.DAT - If this file is corrupt there is nothing you can do.
You were trying to restore your Pool to a prior week, but this file
is corrupt so you can not.
WKRS##.DAT - If this file is corrupt, you were trying to print
result reports that are stored in this file. To recover this file
restore your Pool to a prior week and rerun the results.
==> POOL DATA BASE FILE ? IS A NEWER VERSION THAN THE PROGRAM VERSION -
The indicated file you are trying to use has a higher version number
than the program version number you are using, this is not allowed.
==> PRINTER NEEDS ATTENTION ?/PRINTER IS NOT ON ? - The printer is not
ready to except data from the indicated port, is the printer ready
light on? Are you sure you selected the proper port (LPT1 or LPT2)
when you setup your printer? If you selected the wrong port on
printer setup you may have to restart (reboot) your computer.
==> DISK MEDIA ERROR ? - The indicated disk drive has a defective floppy
disk, a defective hard drive or a hardware malfunction occurred.
==> DEVICE I/O ERROR ? - The indicated device had a hardware
malfunction. This error indicates a defective disk drive, use of a
non-formatted disk, a defective printer or some other defective
device.
==> DISK DRIVE ? NOT READY - The indicated disk drive's door latch is
open or there is no disk in the drive.
==> DISK FULL ON DRIVE ? - The indicated disk drive is full. You should
exit FPK and free up disk space on indicated drive.

==> GENERAL FAILURE ERROR READING/WRITING DRIVE ? - The indicated drive
had a hardware malfunction or you are trying to read or write to a
non-formatted disk. If you are working with a properly formatted
disk enter R for retry. If this does not work enter A for abort.
You will probably have to restart (reboot) your computer. If you
continue to receive this error you must have a defective disk drive.
==> SCHLIST.SCH FILE NOT PRESENT ON DRIVE ? - You are trying to load a
Schedule from a floppy disk that has no Schedule files.
==> ?.SCH FILE NOT PRESENT ON DRIVE ? - You are missing a Schedule file
on the specified drive.
