  7.  NAG-BUSTER is Copyright (c) 1991-1992 by PC ONLINE SOFTWARE and

  10.  NAG-BUSTER removes introductory screens, such as windows popping 
  11.  up, implemented delays, time limits and checksums from a variety of 
  12.  products. This version of NAG-BUSTER is a 'beta', which means 
  13.  that it has not been fully tested on all existing IBM compatible 
  14.  systems or configurations.

  19.  NAG-BUSTER is a shareware program which should be registered. 
  20.  Those who feel that upgrades (including lots of new patches) are of 
  21.  interest, may register by paying the amount of

  32.  If you send us 10 or more new shareware programs (not listed in the
  33.  current version of NAG-BUSTER), you may pay only 1/3 of the amount 
  34.  above. If sending us more than 25 new shareware programs, you will be 
  35.  registered and receive one upgrade later at NO CHARGE!!

  37.  You may pay by money order, check or enclosed cash.
  38.  Remember to fill out the Registration form found in the Main menu.

  40.  Registered users will have some advantages: they will be sent an 
  41.  upgrade once or twice a year at no cost for as we continue to upgrade 
  42.  the NAG-BUSTER (probably for a long time!), depending on the responds 
  43.  from the users, the amount of users and technology as well).

  45.  The registered version will not have the PC ONLINE SOFTWARE-screen,
  46.  the user will have his name on the main screen with a number attached
  47.  to it.

  49.  After registerring, you may, of course, send us more programs to
  50.  be patched in order to improve the NAG-BUSTER.

  53.                              Legal matters

  55.  NAG-BUSTER is intended solely for the use of legitimate owners or
  56.  licensees of shareware programs or for those who intend to buy the
  57.  shareware program later and is specifically NOT intended for any
  58.  use that would deprive any software publisher of his rightful income.
  59.  NAG-BUSTER is intended for private use only.

  61.  The patched files that NAG-BUSTER creates may NOT be sold, rented
  62.  out, given away, or uploaded to computer bulletin board services
  63.  (BBS's). The created programs are intended for your testing only
  64.  and should only be used until you are supposed to register.

  66.  You may not modify NAG-BUSTER in any way. You may not reverse
  67.  engineer the program by decompiling, disassembling or decrypting the
  68.  program.

  70.  NAG-BUSTER is provided for the purpose of allowing you to evaluate
  71.  shareware programs as they will appear when you buy them. You may
  72.  use the NAG-BUSTER for as long as you like. You are also granted
  73.  the right, and encouraged, to distribute NAG-BUSTER to others who 
  74.  may find it of interest, and to upload it to computer bulletin board 
  75.  service (BBS's).

  88.                        What is NAG-BUSTER and WHY?
  89.  
  90.  NAG-BUSTER is a utility that removes those 'naggy' windows that
  91.  tend to pop up before program entry or during program exit. These
  92.  windows contain information and requests that only should have been 
  93.  placed in a readable file included in the package rather than inside 
  94.  the program. By removing them, you will be able to evaluate a program 
  95.  more or less identical to the program you will receive after you have 
  96.  paid for it. Normally, all naggy windows are subject to great 
  97.  irritation rather than information, and the user will not even _try_ 
  98.  the program because of this, and that effect cannot be satisfactory 
  99.  for either the programmer nor the user.
  100.  
  101.  Some programs contain delays connected to these windows in which the
  102.  user has to wait up to 90 seconds until the program continues running.
  103.  Other programs contain hidden 'bombs' that is able to crash a machine
  104.  if the code has been altered in any way.

  107.                    What's Wrong with 'naggy' programs?
  108.  
  109.  A shareware program in its unregistered form with all windows
  110.  popping up telling you to pay as soon as possible, is not identical
  111.  to the program you will pay for later. The registered version has
  112.  none of these windows, delays, checksums or limits. This means that
  113.  the user will pay for a completely different program than he
  114.  evaluated - which is not right, and gives us the legal right (within 
  115.  Norway) to inform you how to alter the program to emulate the 
  116.  registered one, or even register it. 
  117.  
  118.  Users from countries other than Norway must comply with the laws of 
  119.  their respective country and must not use this program if the actions 
  120.  taken by this program is against the law.

  123.                           Pay for Shareware! 
  124.  
  125.  PC ONLINE SOFTWARE respects the shareware concept - try before you
  126.  pay - and pay less than you do for commercial programs. We recommend
  127.  that you pay for all shareware programs that you intend to use on a
  128.  regular basis after a trial period.
  129.  
  130.  If you do not intend to buy them, NAG-BUSTER is not for you.
  131.  To keep up with the good shareware traditions, the authors deserve to
  132.  be paid the often symbolic sums of money for their products.
  133.  A lot of work and effort has often been put into the development of
  134.  shareware programs.

  137.                         How Do I Use NAG-BUSTER?
  138.  
  139.  Nothing could be simpler! NAG-BUSTER comes as a single executable
  140.  file, with no configuration files, or overlays to keep track of. Just 
  141.  run it directly off the distribution disk or run it off your hard disk 
  142.  after copying it there. 
  143.  
  144.  When the main menu appears use your arrow keys or mouse to move the
  145.  highlight bar to any option and press the Enter key (or click) to 
  146.  select it. Selecting DOS or Windows shareware gives you another menu, 
  147.  in which you can select a program for patching. Then you will be 
  148.  prompted for the path and the patch will start. It's possible to stop 
  149.  anywhere and you will be asked if you wish to continue. If the patch 
  150.  is unsuccessful, you will be informed why.
  151.  
  152.  For speed and elegance, NAG-BUSTER does not search through an
  153.  entire .EXE file for the specific bytes to change. Instead it goes
  154.  directly to the pre-set offset and looks at the bytes there. If they
  155.  differ from the pre-set bytes in NAG-BUSTER, the program cannot
  156.  patch your .EXE file. This means that your .EXE file is not identical
  157.  to the .EXE file that we used to test the patch. It has to be!
  158.  
  159.  If it is not identical, then your version is different, it may be
  160.  patched already by yourself or others and should not be patched again.
  161.  Your program may be compressed. NAG-BUSTER willl automatically try to
  162.  decompress your program if it is compressed. NAG-BUSTER still needs
  163.  the correct filesize to be certain that you have the correct version,
  164.  so if the result of the compression of your program is a wrong file-
  165.  size - that's too bad! A window will pop up telling you this and
  166.  what you can do about it. In the DOS/Windows menus, you will now
  167.  see that we have extended the menus with information of what 
  168.  compression program that (is likely to have) compressed your program
  169.  and a column showing what the patch does. Due to the lack of space, 
  170.  we had to abbreviate some of the compression program names:
  171.  TINYP. is an abbreviation for TINYPROG. EXEP. as in EXEPACK and
  172.  COMP. as in COMPACK. The two latter is found in parentheses, which
  173.  means that NAG-BUSTER do not have to decompress these programs in
  174.  order to patch them. N/A means not applicable, i.e. an unknown
  175.  compression method was used. We think that the column of what the 
  176.  patch does is self-expanatory.

  178.  If you encounter difficulties in decompressing programs with
  179.  NAG-BUSTER (due to lack of memory), try to decompress your program 
  180.  manually. Then re-enter NAG-BUSTER.
  181.  
  182.  None of the Windows programs from the Windows menu is compressed.
  183.  
  184.  If a patch is successful, you will get a message and the NAG-BUSTER 
  185.  will create, or append to a log file, information on what program is 
  186.  patched and when.
  187.  
  188.  NAG-BUSTER removes protection by searching the program files for
  189.  the data that need to be changed, and then making those changes
  190.  with little or no intervention from you.
  191.  
  192.  Once the naggy screens are removed, you need not use NAG-BUSTER 
  193.  again on that particular product.

  195.  As mentioned, this version of the NAG-BUSTER is a 'beta' version. 
  196.  Therefore, PC ONLINE SOFTWARE will be greatful for any written 
  197.  comments or questions, particularly if you encounter difficulties 
  198.  or errors.

  200.  New versions of NAG-BUSTER will probably be distributed twice a
  201.  year, depending on the response from the users and the amount of
  202.  new programs that need patching.

  204.  And that's all there is to it! Remember that the altered files
  205.  that are created by NAG-BUSTER are for your own use only and may
  206.  not be given away or distributed another person in any form!
