  8. This version of TORNADO incorporates many fixes to previously reported
  9. problems and several enhancements to existing features.
  10.  
  11. To use this patch, copy all of the files on this disk into your TORNADO
  12. directory.  For example, type "COPY B:*.* C:\TORNADO" if your TORNADO
  13. program is on drive C in a directory named "TORNADO."  Then type "PATCH"
  14. from your TORNADO directory.  The update program will then replace or
  15. modify the necessary files to update your copy of TORNADO to version 1.0C.
  16.  
  17. You can identify version 1.0C by looking for the version number in the
  18. lower right-hand corner of the TORNADO loading screen.  In addition, the
  19. file creation date for AMP.EXE will be changed to 10-21-93.
  20.  
  21. PROGRAM FIXES
  22. -------------
  23. Problems with sounds either dropping out or playing through the Ad Lib
  24. driver have been corrected.
  25.  
  26. An improved joystick calibration routine has been added.
  27.  
  28. TORNADO is now compatible with the US Robotics 14.4 modem for
  29. head-to-head play.
  30.  
  31. Flightplans modified in Campaign can now be saved.
  32.  
  33. In earlier versions of TORNADO, your plane had to come to a complete stop
  34. on a runway before you could end a mission successfully.  A ground speed
  35. of less than 30 knots is now sufficient.
  36.  
  37. In earlier versions of TORNADO, enemy fighters were able to perform
  38. exceptional barrel roll maneuvers in order to stay behind your Tornado.
  39. This has been corrected; enemy plane maneuvers are now more realistic.
  40.  
  41. The lack of a promotion at the end of Campaign Level 1 has been corrected.
  42.  
  43. Air victories being credited improperly in the pilot log has been
  44. corrected.
  45.  
  46. PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS
  47. --------------------
  48. The "Review" feature now has full mouse control through both Demo and
  49. Options.
  50.  
  51. Rudder pedals are supported.
  52.  
  53. The Explore Mode is now fixed to daytime.
  54.  
  55. A digital readout had been added to the fuel gauge.
  56.  
  57. A Dogfight Mode has been added.  If you press the fire button, the
  58. air-to-air radar and weapons will be activated if weapons were not armed.
  59.  
  60. When you turn on the air-to-air radar, it will range automatically with
  61. respect to the currently selected weapon.
  62.  
  63. The drone view now shows aircraft designations.
  64.  
  65. SAMs are no longer always fatal, but more damage will be received.
  66.  
  67. A proximity alarm sounds when SAMs are very close.
  68.  
  69. The ZRK-Romb SAM launcher has been changed to a ZREK-BD Strela 10.

  71. MEMORY MANAGERS
  72. ---------------
  73. QEMM (versions 7.0 and later) features DOS-UP which links upper and base
  74. memory.  This may cause insufficient memory error messages with TORNADO.
  75. We suggest that you turn off the DOS-UP feature by inserting "REM" in front
  76. of that line in your CONFIG.SYS file.  You will lose approximately 3K of
  77. RAM, but TORNADO will now run.
  78.  
  79. 386MAX (versions 7.0 and later) has a similar feature called EXTRADOS.
  80. This may also cause insufficient memory error messages with TORNADO.  We
  81. suggest that you turn off the EXTRADOS feature by inserting "REM" in front
  82. of the line that relocates your COMMAND.COM file.  This will allow TORNADO
  83. to run.
  84.  
  85. GENERAL INFORMATION
  86. -------------------
  87. TORNADO is not compatible with version 9.0 of the Microsoft Mouse driver.
  88.  
  89. To turn off the warning lights, press "*" (asterisk) on the numeric keypad.
  90. "Shift+8" changes the sound selection.
  91.  
  92. The install program cannot automatically make a boot disk if Stacker or
  93. DoubleSpace is used on your hard drive.  You must manually insert the
  94. appropriate commands in your CONFIG.SYS file.  Refer to the documentation
  95. for those products for detailed information.
  96.  
  97. If you have a Pro Audio Spectrum sound card, you should choose the "Ad
  98. Lib" driver in the Preferences screen.
  99.  
  100. Weapons not used on a mission are not returned to your airfield inventory.
  101.  
  102. In Simulator mission #12, you start slightly northeast of waypoint C,
  103. not heading north between waypoints D and E.
