  8. INTRODUCTION
  9.     This patch disk updates Operation: Fighting Tiger to 
  10.     version 3.01.1. The update includes a new installation 
  11.     program, the necessary patch files, a backup 
  12.     installation batch file and a batch file for creating a 
  13.     boot disk for Packard Bell computers (as well as a few 
  14.     other, auxiliary files).
  15.  
  16.     This update can only be used if you have already 
  17.     purchased Operation: Fighting Tiger. It will update 
  18.     Falcon 3.01 (dated 8/21/92) to Falcon 3.01.1 (dated 
  19.     10/2/92). If you purchased the later version of 
  20.     Operation: Fighting Tiger, you do not need to perform 
  21.     the update since that version already contains the 
  22.     changes.

  33. UPDATING OPERATION: FIGHTING TIGER
  34.     There are two ways of carrying out this update. 
  35.     
  36.     METHOD ONE:
  37.     If you have already installed Operation: Fighting 
  38.     Tiger, you can update the game by copying the files 
  39.     PATCH.EXE and PATCH.RTP to your Falcon 3.0/Operation: 
  40.     Fighting Tiger directory and then typing "PATCH" while 
  41.     in this directory.
  42.     
  43.     METHOD TWO:
  44.     You can also use the new install program included with 
  45.     this patch to both install Operation: Fighting Tiger 
  46.     (Falcon 3.01) and update the game to version 3.01.1. 
  47.     In this case, the patch files must be on the same size 
  48.     floppy disk as your Operation: Fighting Tiger program 
  49.     disks. (If you have downloaded the patch from a BBS, 
  50.     you must copy the installation and patch files to the 
  51.     correct size floppy disk before continuing.) To 
  52.     install, insert the patch disk into a floppy drive, 
  53.     type "A:" or "B:" to change the directory to your patch 
  54.     disk and then type "INSTALL".
  55.     
  56.     If Operation: Fighting Tiger is not already installed, 
  57.     you will be prompted to insert your Operation: Fighting 
  58.     Tiger program disks. (It is always prudent to make 
  59.     backup copies of your original disks before doing 
  60.     anything else.) Once it has finished converting Falcon 
  61.     3.0 to Falcon 3.01, the installer will then update the 
  62.     game to version 3.01.1.
  63.     
  64.     If Operation: Fighting Tiger is already installed, the 
  65.     install program will just skip the first step and 
  66.     proceed immediately with the update.
  67.     
  68.     ALTERNATE INSTALLATION:
  69.     As a backup method of installing Operation: Fighting 
  70.     Tiger, the batch file INSTOFT.BAT is also included 
  71.     with this update. This batch file will only install 
  72.     Operation: Fighting Tiger. It will not perform the 
  73.     update. To use the batch file, copy INSTOFT.BAT to your 
  74.     Falcon 3.0 directory, type "INSTOFT" and follow the 
  75.     onscreen instructions. You will be prompted to insert 
  76.     your Operation: Fighting Tiger program disks. Use 
  77.     METHOD ONE, above, to complete the update.
  78.     
  79. PACKARD BELL COMPUTERS
  80.     Running Operation: Fighting Tiger on a Packard Bell 
  81.     computer may require a change in your CONFIG.SYS file 
  82.     to avoid an EMS conflict between the video BIOS and the 
  83.     EMS page frame at address E000. It is recommended that 
  84.     the EMS page frame address be set to D000. The 
  85.     following line, for example, will set the EMS page 
  86.     frame address properly for the EMM386 memory manager:
  87.     
  88.     DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 1024 RAM FRAME=D000
  89.     
  90.     If you are not sure how to do this for your expanded 
  91.     memory manager, consult your DOS and expanded memory 
  92.     manager manuals for instructions. Our Customer Support 
  93.     representatives are also available Monday-Friday, 9am-
  94.     5pm Pacific time at our Customer Support number.
  95.     
  96.     If you are using DOS 5.0 and the EMM386 expanded memory 
  97.     manager, you can use the batch file BOOTPACK.BAT to 
  98.     create a special boot disk for your Packard Bell 
  99.     computer. Booting your system with this disk will 
  100.     configure your computer to avoid the address conflict.
  101.     
  102.     The BOOTPACK.BAT file is compressed inside the patch 
  103.     file. When you run the patch, BOOTPACK.BAT will be 
  104.     expanded and copied to your Falcon 3.0 directory. You 
  105.     will also need a formatted disk that fits your drive A 
  106.     to use as a boot disk. Simply type "BOOTPACK" from your 
  107.     Falcon 3.0 directory and then follow the onscreen 
  108.     instructions.
  109.     
  110.     To use the boot disk, insert the disk into drive A and 
  111.     reboot (or turn on) your computer before playing Falcon 
  112.     3.0.
  113.     
  114.     NOTE: If you want to use your mouse with this boot disk 
  115.     carry out the following steps: 
  116.     1.Edit the boot disk AUTOEXEC.BAT file with any text 
  117.     editor and remove the letters "REM" from the line: 
  118.     REM LOADHIGH MOUSE. 
  119.     2. Copy your mouse driver (MOUSE.COM) from your hard 
  120.     drive to the boot disk.
  121.  
  122. CHANGES TO OPERATION: FIGHTING TIGER
  123.     1. Some Operation: Fighting Tiger owners have had 
  124.     difficulty with the installation program included with 
  125.     the original release. A new installation program is 
  126.     included with this update which will both install the 
  127.     game from your Operation: Fighting Tiger program disks 
  128.     (preferably backup copies) and update version 3.01 to 
  129.     version 3.01.1. (See the UPDATING OPERATION: FIGHTING 
  130.     TIGER section above, which describes the new 
  131.     installation.)
  132.     
  133.     2. On some systems, Operation: Fighting Tiger would 
  134.     crash before even reaching the title screen. The update 
  135.     will correct this problem for all systems except some 
  136.     Packard Bell systems. Packard Bell owners might have to 
  137.     either use a special boot disk or alter their 
  138.     CONFIG.SYS file to run Operation: Fighting Tiger. (See 
  139.     the above section on Packard Bell computers.)
  140.     
  141.     3. The requirements for successfully completing an 
  142.     Escort mission have been eased. Now you are only 
  143.     responsible for getting the escorted bombers, strike or 
  144.     cargo aircraft to their destination.
  145.     
  146.     4. The flight characteristics for heavy aircraft, like 
  147.     the B-52 and C-130, have been improved. They will fly 
  148.     more realistically and will no longer crash on landing 
  149.     (assuming, of course, that they are undamaged before 
  150.     attempting to land).
  151.     
  152.     5. Buildings in Red Flag can now be damaged.
  153.     
  154.     6. The MiG-31, the Mirage 2000, the Jaguar and the UMF 
  155.     can now be assigned to enemy flights in Red Flag.
  156.     
  157.     7. PC speaker sounds have been fixed. 
  158.     
  159.     8. When playing Allied Comms. in the Kurile Islands 
  160.     theater, ships will now appear on all connected 
  161.     machines, not just the Caller.
  162.     
  163.     9. In the Kurile Islands theater, you will no longer be 
  164.     assigned missions which require you to violate the 
  165.     Rules of Engagement. (You can still be assigned 
  166.     missions which are merely difficult to accomplish under 
  167.     ROE.)
  168.     
  169.     10. The Supply Status display of the campaign Report 
  170.     Screen now lists the AIM-9R and the AGM-84.
  171.     
  172.     11. The Padlock Status Window will now display "Alamo" 
  173.     instead of "Aphid" when an active-radar-guided missile 
  174.     is padlocked.

  178. Pg. 7 -- Parts List
  179.     If you have purchased the 3.5" version of Operation: 
  180.     Fighting Tiger, you should find one 1.44MB disk and one 
  181.     720K disk (not two 1.44MB disks) in the package.

  183.     In addition, you should also find a Disk Exchange 
  184.     Coupon for exchanging 5.25" disks for 3.5" disks or 
  185.     vice versa.

  187. Pg. 9 -- More weather
  188.     The overcast cloud layer will appear when the weather 
  189.     report or forecast lists the weather as "OVERCAST" not 
  190.     "CLOUDY." (Remember that weather reporting is not an 
  191.     exact science.)

  193. Pg. 75 -- Rules of Engagement: Violations and consequences
  194.     Violating the rules of engagement may make subsequent 
  195.     missions more difficult because the enemy will become 
  196.     more aggressive.

  198. Page 82 -- Escort strike or bombers
  199.     The requirements for this mission should read:
  200.     * Provide both fighter escort and SEAD support to 
  201.       ensure that the strike aircraft reach their 
  202.       destination.
  203.     * You must fly within 10 nm of the target waypoint.
  204.     * At least one F-16 must survive the mission.

  207.     The mission title "Ground Strike" is missing from the 
  208.     top of the page.

  210. Pg. 98 -- Using the Harpoon missile and SEA radar
  211.     Ship targets can be identified in two ways:
  212.  
  213.     1. The radar return of a surface vessel is displayed on 
  214.     the REO as a green blip with one of three intensities: 
  215.     bright green, medium-bright green or dim green. The 
  216.     intensity of the return relates to the displacement of 
  217.     the ship. Refer to the Reference Section of the 
  218.     Operation: Fighting Tiger manual to determine the 
  219.     displacement of the assigned target ship.
  220.     
  221.     2. View the formation of the enemy ships using the Map 
  222.     zoom function on the Mission Planning screens. The 
  223.     formation will not change significantly during the 
  224.     mission.
  225.     
  226.     The position of friendly ships is marked on the 
  227.     campaign maps with a blue icon. Enemy ships are marked 
  228.     with red icons. On missions, you will never find a 
  229.     friendly ship anywhere near an enemy task force, so 
  230.     identifying ships as friendly or hostile should not be 
  231.     a problem.

  233. Pg. 118 -- SA-2 Guideline
  234.     The SA-4 will not appear in Operation: Fighting Tiger. 
  235.     Instead, the SA-2 has been deployed in the permanent 
  236.     SAM sites. Check the Report Screen in the game for the 
  237.     performance specifications of the SA-2.
