Blue Paint Job for the F7F Tigercat in Aces of the Pacific
==========================================================
Like many of you, I have grown tired of the drab and boring colors
that came with the F7F Tigercat in Dynamix' Aces of the Pacific, so I
decided I would spruce it up a bit by repainting the Tigercat. I believe
that the colors used in the World War II: 1946 module for the Tigercat was
that of the Marines. They received the bulk of them and the dark grey would
be typical of the dark, earthy tones the Marines adopted late in the war for
their aircraft. I decided that if the Navy had used Tigercats onboard their
carriers, they would have received the more traditional midnight blue colors.
I have included three versions of the blue paint job. They are almost
identical, except for one minor difference: glare matting. Glare matting
is the application of a patch of dark flat paint on areas around the cockpit
that would produce glare for the pilot if the sun shined on that part.
Since the nose on the Tigercat is long and has a slow tapering angle, it
is almost essential that this part of the plane be matted. There are also
two engines located relatively close to the cockpit whose smooth, curved
cowl hubs could cause distracting glare for the pilot. Again, these are
candidates for matting. The three versions of the blue paint job are
blue with nose and cowl matting (F7F_1.TBL and F7F_1.TTM), blue with
nose matting only (F7F_2.TBL and F7F_2.TTM), and blue with no matting at
all (F7F_3.TBL and F7F_3.TTM).
INSTALLATION
------------
First of all, these patches in no way will make any permanent changes to
your installed game files. They are totally compatable with any on-going
campaign and will work with saved missions. The modification only applies
to the F7F Tigercat and you must have Dynamix' Aces of the Pacific with the
World War II: 1946 expansion module. This patch will not work without them.
In order to use these new paint jobs, copy all the F7F_x.TBL and F7F_x.TTM
files to your ACES directory. After determining which color scheme you want
(eg. F7F_1.TBL/F7F_1.TTM - matting on nose and cowl), copy the files to
F7F.TBL and F7F.TTM, respectively. That's it. Load up AOTP and enjoy.
If in the future, you want to change the color scheme, just copy the new
files over the old files. To uninstall this modification, erase the F7F.TBL
and F7F.TTM files. You don't have to erase the F7F_x.TBL and F7F_x.TTM
files to go back to the WW2:1946 colors.
NOTICE
------
This patch was produced exclusively for the enjoyment of legal owners
of Dynamix' Aces of the Pacific/World War II: 1946. This patch is freeware
and permission is granted to distribute freely. This is not an official
patch or update from Dynamix or Sierra On-line and is not supported by them.
Thank you, Uwe Serf! If it wasn't for you cracking the color codes in your
silver/white version of the F7F, I could never have made this patch.
Keep it up and by the way: 68 is the code for red... 'Till later...
