  1.                       Z-Node Requirements

  3. The Z-Node program offered to sysops has significant benefits to
  4. both Echelon and participating sysops.  The sysops are provided with
  5. state-of-the-art software such as Z-System, TERM III, and can
  6. acquire Z-Msg for the low price of $20.  Also, eventually the Z-Node
  7. systems will be integrated into a true networking system utilizing
  8. communications media such as ham radio packet and PC Pursuit.

  10. Echelon's benefits derive from the publicity of thousands of callers
  11. being exposed to this software, and the subsequent sales thereof.  Also,
  12. it helps reinforce the desired perception that the Z80-compatible
  13. personal computer is not "dead".
  14.  
  15. The intent of Echelon in setting up Z-Nodes is to enter into a
  16. partnership with existing sysops who wish to espouse ZCPR3/Z-System.
  17. This point of view is perhaps best expressed in saying that Echelon
  18. does not want to sponsor your prospective system and therefore be
  19. responsible for it's operation.  Instead, if you are already
  20. interested in running a ZCPR3/Z-System oriented remote system, we
  21. want to participate.  Ideally, candidates would already be operating
  22. a remote access system.  Echelon does not have the resources available
  23. to support those who do not already have systems up and running.

  25. Essentially, we at Echelon desire that Z-Node candidates already be
  26. committed to operating a remote access system, regardless of whether
  27. they participate in the Z-Node program.  Participants in the Z-Node
  28. program are screened based on:
  29.  
  30.     1. A 24-hour RAS must already be functioning (probably using BYE
  31.        and KMD/XMODEM).
  32.     2. Callers must be capable of accessing file downloading areas,
  33.        to be capable of downloading items such as updated Z utilities,
  34.        the Z-NEWS newsletters, etc.
  35.     3. Storage capability to allow allocation of at least 500k to
  36.        Echelon and/or Z related files.
