  3. A group of English school-boys is stranded on a Pacific island
  4. after a plane-crash. Ralph is chosen as leader and tries to
  5. organise the boys to survive and keep a signal-fire going in
  6. the hope of rescue.
  7.     
  8. The boys become fearful of an imaginary beast and their group
  9. starts to break up as Jack the leader of the hunters challenges
  10. Ralph's leadership.
  11.     
  12. A ferocious 'monster' adds to their fears and in a savage
  13. ritual dance the boys kill Simon the only one who knows the
  14. truth that the 'monster' is only a dead parachutist.

  16. Jack's tribe grows in size and power and ferocity.  Ralph
  17. confronts him but two more of his supporters are captured and
  18. Piggy his last friend is killed when the tribe roll down a
  19. huge rock.
  20.     
  21. Alone now Ralph runs in terror from the tribe who are after his
  22. blood. When all seems lost the boys are suddenly rescued by the
  23. crew of a naval cruiser.

  25. Ralph weeps as he thinks of his dead friend and of all that had
  26. happened on the island.
