- HOMEGROWN PWCONFIG
-
- This program (SWAP.COM) allows the user to increase the
- size of the Perfect Writer Swap file, as well as change some
- other parameters such as tab spacing and margins. It will
- be useful for anyone wanting to write long documents with
- Perfect Writer (you are no longer restricted to the 64K
- PW.SWP, which came preconfigured with your Kaypro Perfect
- Writer disks).
-
- This "Homegrown PWCONFIG" was originally written as a
- simple SBASIC program by Chip Weems, Computer and
- Information Science Dept.; Graduate Research Center A-305;
- University of Massachusetts; Amherst, MA 01003. It was
- published in "KUGRAM" Vol. 1, No. 5; pps.16-17.
-
- To create a large PW.SWP file, first pip SWAP.COM (from
- this disk) and PW.SWP (from your Perfect Writer Edit Disk)
- to a blank formatted and sysgened disk. Place this new disk
- in Drive A: and a blank formmated and sysgened disk in Drive
- B:. At the A> prompt, type SWAP (CR). Answer the questions -
- NOTE: The swap file should be a multiple of 8 between 24 and
- 152 (152 is the maximum limit with a Kaypro II disk, and
- will only allow room for PW.COM (35K) and PW.SWP). You might
- want to check Appendix A in your Perfect Writer Manual;
- Pages A-10 & A-11 (Pps.278-280 in newer manuals) for details
- on how to answer these questions. It takes a while to build
- a large swap file, but the program will indicate its
- progress by displaying in the lower left, the number of K it
- has written so far. After your PW.SWP file is built, you
- will have to PIP a copy of PW.COM and whatever else you have
- room for onto your new disk before you can use it for
- writing.
-
- This disk also has a program called "SWAPSIZE.COM" which
- is an even simpler S-BASIC program that just changes the
- size of the PW.SWP file (without being able to change the
- other PWCONFIG parameters. This program was compiled from
- the "HPCUG NEWS", Vol. 1, No.10; Oct. 1983. Use it exactly
- the same way as SWAP.COM - it is just as slow and it does
- show the number of "K" written as it progresses.
-
- If you just want to change the size of your PW.SWP file
- use either SWAP.COM or SWAPSIZE.COM; both work equally well;
- but if you want to change margings or tab spacing, etc.
- then you must use SWAP.COM. HAVE FUN!!!
