  61. instructions   in  ZCPR3:  The  Manual),  the  answer   is   yes.
  62. Experience in assembly-language programming is necessary.  Source
  63. code to your BIOS is necessary.  An understanding of CP/M and  Z-
  64. System concepts is necessary.
  65.      However,  you may not have to bring ZCPR3  manually.   There

  222. A  Z-System can take up a lot of memory, but it can also take  as
  223. little as 1K, depending on how it's installed.
  224.      I  have  run the following programs in  a  full-up  Z-System
  225. (which  takes 5K more than a similar CP/M system), and they  have
  226. worked well for my applications:

  234.      There  are  some programs which hog so much  TPA  that  they
  235. can't run under my full-up Z-System, but I don't use them or need
  236. them for my applications.
  237.      The  impact on memory is really not that significant if  you
  238. look at a true picture...

  282.      Note:  nK = p% indicates the size of the system in K (BIOS +
  283. BDOS  +  CPR) and the percentage of the total memory taken up  by
  284. the operating system.   In my case,  I am running a Maximum ZCPR3
  285. with  a 5.5K BIOS overhead,  so this leaves a 48K TPA (64K  - 16K
  286. System) which expands to 50K if the program overlays ZCPR3.   All
  287. my programs, including WordStar and dBASE II continue to run, and
  288. I have full ZCPR3 features.
  289.      Even  with this argument,  people will still ignore the vast
  290. gains  in  functionality and capability offered by ZCPR3  and  Z-
  291. System  and concentrate on their single-minded fixation with  TPA
  292. (for  reasons no one has adequately explained to me).   A  future
  293. ZCPR3 release,  ZCPRB3, will offer a banked memory system with at
  294. least a 60K TPA (now,  that should make them happy).  Note that I
  295. am not moving to a banked system on their account,  but as a step
  296. toward multitasking--something I really want.

  306.      The Z-System runs better on a hard disk...because everything
  307. runs  better on a hard disk.  Also, a hard disk runs better on  a
  308. Z-System  because of all the programs and features which  support
  309. the hard disk:
  310.  
  311.           Named directories with passwords
  312.           Public directories under ZRDOS+
  313.           Paths
  314.           Shells
  315.           Special commands, like CD (Change Directory)
  316.  
  317.      Most Z-System features are practical regardless of the  disk
  318. used.
