│ What is this │
└──────────────┘
Well got tired of the 40 map limit and the messy DN3D main dir with
DN3D's setup.exe. So I decided to code my own map launcher, well at the
beginning I was too lazy to start coding it, but a friend convinced me
so here it is.. Added lot's of fun stuff like,
- How big the map file is (for example 80K).
- When you last played the map (or if you haven't played it).
- How many times the map have been played.
- See/Add your own comments to the maps.
- View the .txt file that describes the .map
- Display the last map you played.
- Display total map launches.
- Total amount of map's in directory.
- Returns to DN3D Kickstarter after you quit a DN3D game.
So what does it not have that setup.exe has.
- As I never play by modem/serial I have lacked this a bit, some
of the modem setup can't be done within DN3D kickstarter, but
it load the settings from DN3D's setup.exe. If somebody really
wants this, email me and I will code it if there is great demand.
- Phonebook... same argument as above.

│ Files │
└───────┘
These files should be included with dukekick:
kick.bat : this is the file to run.
dukekick.exe : this is the main prg, do not run it, kick.bat runs it.
dukekick.doc : the file you are looking at.
These files will be generated once you run KICK.BAT.
dukekick.dat : datafile used by dukekick.exe.
duke3d.bak : this is a backup of your original duke3d.cfg
┌────────────────┬───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
│ How to install │
└────────────────┘
Simply copy the files into your DN3D dir.
(kick.bat, dukekick.exe, dukekick.doc(optional).)
Make a dir in your DN3D dir called MAP
(read "Misc. info" if you want to have your maps in DN3D's dir or
elsewhere)
copy all your .map and .txt files (that decribe the maps) into
the the MAP dir
now return to your DN3D dir and type KICK
┌────────────┬───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

The program should be pretty easy to understand, so I won't bother explain
it.
If you want to change your map dir, edit KICK.BAT, there you will
find the line: dukekick.exe /C MAP\
change the 2nd parameter to the new path you want.
(remember to end the path with a "\")
If you want to use DN3D's dir for maps just remove the 2nd parameter.
As DN3D kickstarter, uses the duke3d.cfg configuration file (the same
setup.exe uses) this is the only file this program can screw up which
will give you problems. So if this happens copy the file duke3d.bak
(which is your original setup file) to duke3d.cfg.
If you press 'V' to view a map's .txt file and nothing happens it's
because the map dosn't have a .txt file.
If you get the message "Out of environment space" when you run Kick.bat
try type SET and see if there's some of the SET strings you can remove,
so there's enough room for a new one. These SET strings are probably set
in your autoexec.bat. If you want to make sure it works, you can insert
this line in your autoexec: SET LEVEL=default
If you suddenly get a runtime error message from the program, you might
check if the file size of dukekick.dat is 0, if it is then delete it, a
new dukekick.dat will be created, but you old map stats are lost :(.
I have not tried this program with the shareware version of DN3D.
dukekick.exe should be 44912 bytes or else somebody/something have
tampered with it (probably a virus).
Why is this document so badly written?, well I'm from Denmark so my
English is not the best :-)
