- LUNCH
- -----
-
- The Executive Decision Maker
-
- It is a well known fact that one of the most difficult decisions
- facing today's busy executives (and his/her subordinates), is
- where to go for lunch. In fact, the difficulty of making this
- decision rises in geometric proportion to the number of people
- involved. There are documented cases on record where a group of
- people spent their entire lunch period trying to decide where to
- go!
-
- If there was ever an application that cried out to be automated,
- this is it.
-
- Now, once and for all, you can delegate this distasteful chore to
- LUNCH, the computer program that performs its function without
- agony, prejudice or hesitation. LUNCH takes into account a wide
- variety of factors in making its decision, including the date,
- phase of the moon, your credit card balance, recent caloric
- intake, your weight, height, physical dimensions and the exact
- second you ask LUNCH for help (only this latter factor has any
- significance to LUNCH). The result is that YOU, the busy
- executive, are relieved from one more trivial distraction on your
- upward path to riches and glory!
-
- You may install the LUNCH programs and data file on a floppy or
- hard disk, the only restriction being that programs and data MUST
- reside in the same directory. No fancy stuff like CONFIG.SYS,
- ANSI.SYS or other computerese is necessary.
-
- To run LUNCH, simply type its name (LUNCH) at the operating
- system prompt and press <RETURN>.
-
- When LUNCH displays its choice, it asks you if you are satisfied
- with its decision. If not, just type N (or n) and press <RETURN>
- and LUNCH will supply another choice. However, to get the
- maximum benefit from this program, it is suggested that you
- follow LUNCH's suggestions blindly and not raise your blood
- pressure and anxiety level by arguing about it.
-
- If you like LUNCH's suggestion, respond to the above question
- with Y (or y). LUNCH will then ask you if you wish the address
- or phone number for the chosen restaurant. Again, replying Y or
- N (caps or lower case) is all that is required on your part.
- Don't you wish LOTUS were this simple?
-
- Occasionally, LUNCH will surprise you with a pithy rejoinder.
- This is because LUNCH truly loves you and wants to brighten up
- your day a little, to encourage you to keep using it.

- MODIFYING LUNCH'S RESTAURANT LIST
- ---------------------------------
-
- Unless you're my twin brother (and I don't have a twin brother),
- it is likely that your choices of restaurants will be different
- than mine. And since my list contains places in the San Fernando
- Valley section of Los Angeles, it might be difficult for you to
- get to one of my favorite places, especially if you live
- someplace like Waterloo, Iowa.
-
- So...
-
- The program CHGREST is supplied for you to change the list to
- suit your own tastes. To run CHGREST, just type its name
- (CHGREST) and press <RETURN>. CHGREST first asks you if you want
- to change all or selectively. If you respond A (or a) for ALL,
- CHGREST will present all the restaurants, one at a time, and ask
- you if you wish to change each one. To see the entire list,
- respond this way and answer N (or n) to this question each time.
- You will then see all 60 restaurants in my list.
-
- If you wish to change a restaurant, type Y (or y) in response to
- the question, and you will be prompted to enter your own
- information on the bottom half of the screen. Just type what you
- want to enter, and what you type will replace what is already in
- the list.
-
- A couple of notes about changing...
-
- If you just press <RETURN> without typing anything else, the
- original information will remain unchanged. To blank out a piece
- of information, type one space first, then press <RETURN>. To
- keep the program simple, I didn't include any fancy editing, so
- if you make a mistake in typing, you can correct it using the
- cursor arrow keys and overtyping BEFORE you press <RETURN>. If
- you discover a mistake after pressing <RETURN>, you can bring the
- record up again by choosing to update selectively. The record
- number of each restaurant is displayed at the top of the screen
- so you know which one to change.
-
- If you chose to change the restaurant selectively by typing S (or
- s) in response to the first question, you are then asked to
- supply the record number you want to change. When you enter a
- number between 1 and 60, the corresponding restaurant record will
- be displayed and you can change it just as described above.
-
- The phone number line allows for up to 14 characters, so that you
- can enter area code and number like this:
-
- (818) 999-2222
-
- if you like. If you don't use the area code or punctuation, just
- be sure that the phone number starts in the first position of the
- line, as a blank space there will cause CHGREST to blank out the
- entire phone number.
-
-

-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- The Comments line is for whatever commentary you wish to enter,
- up to 30 characters. These display only if you ask for the
- address or phone number when LUNCH picks an eatery for you. They
- don't have anything to do with LUNCH's pithy rejoinders, which
- are secret, just to keep you interested.
-
- CHEATING LUNCH
- --------------
-
- I am also aware that some people have heavy favorites among the
- available nosheries, and are not above cheating a bit to increase
- the odds that LUNCH will chose one of them. You can increase
- your odds by placing the same restaurant in the file multiple
- times. With 60 different places for LUNCH To choose from, your
- odds are 1 in 60 that it will pick your favorite. But if you put
- it in the file 5 times, the odds drop to only 1 in 12. Can't get
- those odds in Lotto! Certain compulsive types may want to use
- one restaurant in all 60 records. These people have no need of
- LUNCH, they should instead see a shrink!
-
