DIETAID is a general purpose DIET and MENU planner. See the HELP.TXT file
for further information (by typing it out, or by pressing F10 for HELP within
DIETAID).
DIETAID comes on two 360K floppy diskettes. The PROGRAM diskette contains
the DIETAID program, the new REMAKEPT and ADDITEMS utilities, the ITEMS.NEW
data file of new food items for this release, this README file, and the HELP
file. The DATA diskette contains the Food Item Table (FIT) and index, the
Diet Allocation Tables (DAT), and another copy of the HELP file.
TO RUN:
Type DIETAID and press ENTER.
HARD DISK:
You may copy both diskettes to a hard disk or to a high density floppy to
run from either of these media. This initial release does not allow running
from mixed drives or paths. So all files must be in the same directory/drive.
LOW DENSITY FLOPPIES:
To run from two low density floppies, insert the PROGRAM diskette in the
desired drive, type DIETAID and press enter. Once the DIETAID screen appears
remove the PROGRAM diskette, and insert the DATA diskette in that same drive.
All DIETs, MENUs, RECIPEs, and TABLE revisions will be stored on the DATA
diskette.
HERCULES DISPLAY:
If DIETAID starts but the screen stays blank, press F6 to convert the
display to HERCULES/MONOCHROME mode. Press any key to continue, or if you
pressed F6 by mistake, press F6 again to switch back to normal mode.
CGA SNOW:
If the "snow" on CGA adapters is bothersome, press F5 on the initial DIETAID
screen to convert the display mode to BIOS which is slower but has no snow.
This may also be useful for any problems that occur with non-standard disp-
lay adapters.
Press any key to continue, or press F5 again to switch back to DIRECT screen
display mode.
RELEASE 2.1 adds/fixes Release 2.0 as follows:
. F5 Snow key and F6 Hercules key added
. Bug causing food item table corruption when a newly
added item, or item whose name was just changed is
deleted in the same session.
. Add EU specification to Diet Allocation Table
. Pressing F8 (Similar Item) in MENU and RECIPE
fixed to say "Must enter a name first" instead
of just showing a screen of ~~~~'s.
. Add Wendy's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut,
and Taco Bell.
. Add REMAKEPT.EXE program that re-makes the
ITEMSPTR.DAT index file. This index could be
corrupted by power failures at the wrong time,
or other problems. If you start having trouble
locating food items that you are sure are in the
FIT, run REMAKEPT to re-make the index. It does
not hurt to run it any time, but it will take a
while to run, particularly if you have added a
bunch of items, or you are running on floppys.
. Add ADDITEMS.EXE and ITEMS.NEW. Each new release
of dietaid may include new food items. These are
built right into the new FIT (ITEMS.ASC file). They
are also included separately in the file ITEMS.NEW.
If you have added food items to the old version and
don't want to have to re-enter them in the new FIT,
you can run ADDITEMS on your current FIT. The program
will add the new items in ITEMS.NEW to whatever FIT
you provide.
DISTRIBUTORS:
Shareware distributors are free to copy and distribute DIETAID so long as it
is distributed unchanged from our original in either program or data and this
README file is included unchanged. Charges for shareware copies are not to
exceed $7. All other commercial sale or distribution of DIETAID is expressly
prohibited.
