Transcription: Initially, many of the fans at Candlestick Park applauded and cheered the earthquake, but that reaction was quickly replaced by one of nervous confusion. The quake hit at rush hour, 5.04 p.m. The east end of the Bay Bridge itself sustained major damage. Fire struck San Francisco's Marina District in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. Three dead, 12 buildings were destroyed. It will be days before officials know the true extent of the damage, months, perhaps years, before the Bay Area recovers from it.
