The nation was riveted by the announcement July 22 that there was a winner in the $111 million Powerball lottery.
Leslie Robbins, a high school teacher, and his fiancee, Colleen De Vries, collected the single largest lottery payoff in U.S. history.
The $111 million will be paid out over 20 years. The first year's total, after taxes, was $3.6 million.
In December, two men won $90 million in the Powerball lottery.
Chuck Gill, 35, of Richmond, Va., said he travelled to Washington, D.C., to buy fifteen $1 lottery tickets. He told his wife they had won, but she wouldn't believe him.
The other winner was Percy Ray Pridgen, 69, of Washington. The retired bricklayer has 17 children and 29 grandchildren.
Pridgen said he planned to buy a country home for his wife.
Gill said he wanted to travel to Paris with his wife and their four-year-old daughter. Then, he said, he wanted to move to a place "with a lot of palm trees and a lot of umbrellas."
The two men will each receive about $2.25 million a year for 20 years.
Powerball lottery tickets are sold in 14 states and the District of Columbia.
