Former Cleveland, Ohio, autoworker John Demjanjuk returned to the United States Sept. 22 after his release from an Israeli prison.
Demjanjuk's 1988 conviction on charges he was Nazi prison camp guard "Ivan the Terrible" was overturned when evidence discovered in files in the former Soviet Union was presented indicating Ivan was someone else.
The evidence that showed Demjanjuk was not Ivan suggested that he might have been a guard at another prison; however, an Israeli judge dismissed any further efforts to prosecute Demjanjuk.
Since returning to the United States, Demjanjuk has fought a battle to restore the citizenship which was stripped in 1981 because of his alleged Nazi past.
