  3.         Baseball fans have a message: Resolve the strike now or cancel the season - including the World Series.
  4.         Owners and players were trying to do just that Thursday. The two sides met for 30 minutes as players gave owners a proposal that would modify the controversial salary cap.
  5.         "We'll be in touch with the union" today, says owners' negotiator Richard Ravitch.
  6.         But fans are growing impatient as the strike begins its fifth week today.
  7.         In a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll, 475 baseball fans were asked if the season should be canceled if the strike is not resolved by the end of the week. The response: 69% said "yes."
  8.         "Basically, people feel the owners and players are so greedy," says Lyn DeLuca, a restaurant owner in Norwood, Ohio. "Football's started. . . . The boys of summer are gone. Let them walk."
  9.         Fans also are missing the game less and less: 29% said they don't miss it at all, 23% said only a little.
  10.         The poll's error margin: 5%.
