  15. VERSIONS OF MOZART INCLUDED

  17. Within the installation package there are two versions of
  18. MOZART:  version 1, the original program for Windows 3.1
  19. and version 2 for Windows 95 and Windows NT.
  20.  
  21. If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT, then version 2
  22. will install automatically.  There is no reason to install
  23. version 1, as it will do nothing which version 2 cannot.

  25. If you are running Windows 3.1 or 3.11, then version 1 will
  26. install automatically.  You can run the installation again
  27. if you upgrade to Windows 95 to take advantage of the extra
  28. features of version 2.

  31. UPWARD COMPATIBILITY

  33. Music files created by MOZART are upwardly compatible.  That
  34. is to say that MOZART 2 will read the files created by
  35. MOZART 1 but not vice versa.

  43. 1. DISTRIBUTION FILES
  44.  
  45. There are two forms in which you may have got this version of
  46. MOZART:
  47.  
  48. A)  You got the evaluation version in the form  a zip file,
  49. with a name like MOZART20.ZIP, from a bulletin board, via
  50. the internet, from CompuServe, or on a CD-ROM.
  51.  
  52. (The zip file names may vary: the two digits in the name
  53. reflect the version.)
  54.  
  55. B)  You have a disk or disks containing one or more files,
  56. including the installation program SETUP.EXE and a file
  57. READ1ST.TXT
  58.  
  59.  
  60. 2. UNZIPPING
  61.  
  62. If you found MOZART in form (A),  and have not yet unzipped the
  63. file, then you have to do this first.   Unzip the ZIP file into a
  64. temporary directory.  This is done using the utility PKUNZIP.EXE
  65. (or equivalent) which you should find on internet, CompuServe, or
  66. wherever you found the MOZART ZIP file.

  69. 3. INSTALLATION FILES
  70.  
  71. Having unzipped the file, or having found MOZART in form (B)
  72. above, you will see a file setup.exe which installs MOZART.
  73. The file readme.1st contains useful information for installing.
  74. (It is one of the files containing this information and you may
  75. be reading it now!)

  77. IMPORTANT NOTE: If these installation files are put on your hard
  78. disk, they must be put in a (temporary) directory which must NOT
  79. be the directory you are about to install MOZART into.

  82. 4. INSTALLING MOZART

  84. Installation is done by running the program setup.exe supplied
  85. in the set of MOZART installation files.
  86.  
  87. If your installation files (including setup.exe) are on a floppy
  88. disk in drive a:
  89.  
  90.   If you have the Windows 95 interface, use the usual software
  91.   installation procedure in the Control panel, or use "Run" on
  92.   the Start Menu to run setup.exe.
  93.  
  94.   If you have the old style windows interface (eg with Windows
  95.   3.1 or NT 3.51), and are installing from drive a, then: 
  96.     
  97.         Go to Windows Program Manager.
  98.         Click on the "Run..." item on its "File" menu.
  99.         In the command box type
  100.  
  101.                     a:\setup
  102.  
  103.         Click on Ok or press Enter.
  104.  
  105.    Otherwise if you have put the MOZART installation files into
  106.    a temporary directory, c:\tmp say, then do the same but with
  107.    the command c:\tmp\setup.
  108.  
  109. The setup program now installs MOZART for you.
  110.  
  111. It asks a few questions including: where do you want MOZART
  112. installed?   It suggests a directory.  You may install it
  113. anywhere on your hard disk but it is best to be in a new
  114. directory.   The setup program creates the directory for
  115. you if it doesn't exist.
  116.  
  117. MOZART setup installs a number of utility DLL files which
  118. are commonly used by many programs.  Depending on your
  119. system configuration, it puts these in your Common Program
  120. Files, Windows, or Windows System directory.  If you already
  121. have a newer version of any of these files than the one
  122. supplied with MOZART, the installation will pause to ask you
  123. if you really want to install an older version. The correct
  124. answer is usually "No".  (If you do want to install older
  125. versions, then exit from the setup program and back up your
  126. originals first - MOZART should work with newer versions;
  127. other applications may not work with older ones.)

  129. The common DLLs installed by MOZART setup are listed under
  130. the heading "Files installed" in the file README.TXT.
  131.  
  132. MOZART SETUP also installs a number of sample tunes in a
  133. separate directory.  These files have the extension .mz
  134. and the installation registers these as belonging to MOZART
  135. so that you can open them by clicking on them in the Windows
  136. 95 Explorer or the Windows NT Program Manager.

  138. A number of icons will appear in a collection on the Windows 95
  139. Start Menu or a Program Manager Group entitled "Mozart" or
  140. "Mozart32".  These include MOZART itself, an icon for direct
  141. access to the on-line help, and companion information file
  142. README.TXT.

  144. In the Evaluation Copy icons are installed to give you direct
  145. access to the order forms, which are in Windows WRITE format
  146. and readable also by WORDPAD and WORD.

  153. README.TXT:  Other important information including how to
  154. register and uninstall MOZART is given in the file README.TXT
  155. which is installed with your MOZART files.  This can be read
  156. after installation if you wish. README.TXT also has useful
  157. trouble-shooting information in case MOZART does not run
  158. satisfactorily first time after installation.
