  2. Box:  This item generates a "flat" map of any portion of the
  3. Earth's surface that lies inside a user-selectable
  4. rectangular region on a flat or Mercator map.  If a flat map
  5. is not currently being displayed, then a flat map is first
  6. displayed.  The user selects the rectangular region by first
  7. pressing the left mouse button to select one vertex of the
  8. rectangle, dragging the mouse to define the box, then
  9. releasing the left mouse button when the desired area has
  10. been selected.  The user may also cancel this entire
  11. selection by pressing the right mouse button before
  12. initially pressing the left mouse button.
  13.  
  14. Box Zoom In:  This item may only be used after the user has
  15. previously selected either the Box, Box Zoom In or Box Zoom
  16. Out items.  This item allows the user to select a
  17. rectangular box within the currently-displayed box for
  18. closer inspection, thereby further expanding the view of
  19. that smaller box.  The smaller box is selected as described
  20. in the Help entry for the Box item.  The user may cancel
  21. this selection by pressing the right mouse button before
  22. initially pressing the left mouse button.

  24. Box Zoom Out:  This item may only be used after the user has
  25. previously selected either the Box, Box Zoom In, or Box Zoom
  26. Out items.  Selecting this item causes the limits (both
  27. latitude and longitude) of the currently-displayed box to be
  28. increased by a factor of 2, and all regions within that
  29. larger box are then displayed.

  31. Clear Screen:  This item causes the entire screen to be
  32. cleared to the default background color (blue).
  33.  
  34. Draw Line:  This item allows the user to draw a connected
  35. line by first pressing and holding down the left mouse
  36. button, and then moving the mouse while continuing to hold
  37. down the left mouse button.  Releasing the left mouse button
  38. terminates the line drawing function.  The user may cancel
  39. this selection by first pressing the right mouse button
  40. before pressing the left mouse button.

  42. Flat:  This item generates a simple, "flat" map of the
  43. entire Earth's surface.  Unlike the Mercator map, there are
  44. no special properties of this sort of plot.
  45.  
  46. Flood Color:  This item allows the user to select the color
  47. to be used in color-filling regions.  The color is selected
  48. by releasing the right mouse button over the desired color. 
  49. The currently-selected color is indicated by a check mark.
  50.  
  51. Flood Fill:  This item causes a contiguous area to be color
  52. filled.  Pressing the left mouse button results in the area
  53. underneath the mouse being color-filled with the color
  54. selected for color-filling (see the Help entry for the Flood
  55. Color item).  The color of all contiguous points of the same
  56. color as the point under the mouse is changed to the flood-
  57. fill color.  The user may cancel this item by pressing the
  58. right mouse button.
  59.  
  60. Globe:  This item generates a plot of an entire hemisphere
  61. of the Earth's surface, i.e., that part of the globe that
  62. would be visible if seen from infinitely far away, but with
  63. a very powerful telescope.  If the user selects this item
  64. when either a "flat" or Mercator map is already displayed,
  65. then the user may immediately select the point on the
  66. Earth's surface which is to be in the center of the globe
  67. view.  If a flat or Mercator map is not currently displayed,
  68. then a flat map is "blittered" onto the screen and the user
  69. may select the center point.  The user may either select the
  70. center point by pressing the left mouse button, or cancel
  71. the selection by pressing the right mouse button.
  72.  
  73. Grid:  This item generates grid lines on the type of map
  74. currently being displayed.  The only valid maps on which to
  75. plot the grid lines are the "flat", Mercator, globe, and
  76. orbital maps.
  77.  
  78. Help:  Selecting this item results in a window appearing,
  79. with a gadget labelled for each menu item.  Pressing the
  80. left mouse button on a particular gadget results in a
  81. display of the Help entry for that particular menu item. 
  82. Pressing the left mouse button on the OK gadget terminates
  83. the display of the Help entry for that menu item.  Pressing
  84. the left mouse button on the Exit Help gadget terminates the
  85. Help function.
  86.  
  87. Line Color:  This item allows the user to select the color
  88. to be used for drawing lines.  The color is selected by
  89. releasing the right mouse button over the desired color. 
  90. The currently-selected color is indicated by a check mark.
  91.  
  92. Mercator:  This item generates a standard Mercator
  93. projection of the entire Earth's surface.
  94.  
  95. Orbital:  This item generates a plot of the Earth's surface
  96. as seen from a user-selectable altitude.  As in the Globe
  97. item, the user may either select the center point of the
  98. view (by pressing the left mouse button over the desired
  99. spot on the Earth's surface) or cancel the item by pressing
  100. the right mouse button.  If the user presses the left mouse
  101. button, then a requester is presented which prompts the user
  102. to enter an altitude from which to view.  Note that the
  103. entire visible portion of the Earth's surface is plotted, no
  104. attempt being made to clip the visible portion to a user's
  105. hypothetical window as seen from an orbiting spacecraft. 
  106. This results in a sort of "fish-eye" effect, but it does
  107. show the entire portion of the globe visible from that
  108. altitude.
  109.  
  110. Palette:  This item gives the user full control over the
  111. entire palette.  A window is opened showing the current
  112. palette, slider bars and RGB values which can be directly
  113. modified.  Any or all colors may be modified, the resulting
  114. color changes being immediately reflected on the screen.

  116. Print Map:  This item causes the currently-displayed map to
  117. be printed on the printer specified in the user's standard
  118. Amiga Preferences file.
  119.  
  120. Quit:  This item causes the program to clean up after itself
  121. and terminate.
  122.  
  123. Reset Colors:  This item causes the default palette (and NOT
  124. the user's personal palette in the "drawmap.config" file) to
  125. be loaded.  The colors on the displayed screen are
  126. immediately modified.
  127.  
  128. Save Config:  This item causes the user's palette to be
  129. saved into a file named "drawmap.config".  When the program
  130. is next executed, it looks for this file and, if found,
  131. loads the palette contained therein.

  133. Save Map:  This item allows the user to save to disk the
  134. currently-displayed map.  A file requester is first
  135. displayed as a prompt to the user to select a file name,
  136. after which the map is saved as a standard IFF file.  It may
  137. then be displayed by any well-behaved IFF display program or
  138. loaded into any normal paint program.
  139.  
  140. Shadow:  This item causes drop-shadows to be generated on
  141. the currently-displayed map.  The only colors for which
  142. shadows are not generated are "black" and the background
  143. "blue".
  144.  
  145. Text:  This item allows the user to enter text and place it
  146. anywhere on the screen.  A text requester is displayed, into
  147. which any desired text may be entered.  Pressing the
  148. "return" or "enter" key terminates the requester, and a box
  149. (of size equal to the size of the specified text) is
  150. displayed at the mouse position.  The user then positions
  151. the text by moving the mouse.  Pressing the left mouse
  152. button stamps down the specified text onto the currently-
  153. displayed map.  Pressing the right mouse button cancels the
  154. selection (i.e., no text will be stamped down).
  155.  
  156. Text Color:  This item allows the user to select the color
  157. to be used for user-specified text.  The color is selected
  158. by releasing the right mouse button over the desired color. 
  159. The currently-selected color is indicated by a check mark.
  160.  
  161. Toggle Title:  This item causes the screen title bar to be
  162. alternately turned on or off.
  163.  
  164. Zoom In:  This item generates an Orbital view as seen from
  165. one-half the previous orbital altitude.  If no previous
  166. Orbital view had been generated, then the altitude is one-
  167. half the initial, default altitude of 300 kilometers.  Also
  168. in that case, a "flat" map is first presented from which to
  169. select the point on the Earth's surface to be directly
  170. underneath the viewpoint.  The user may cancel this item by
  171. pressing the right mouse button.
  172.  
  173. Zoom Out:  This item generates an Orbital view as seen from
  174. twice the previous orbital altitude.  If no previous Orbital
  175. view had been generated, then the altitude is twice the
  176. initial, default altitude of 300 kilometers.  Also in that
  177. case, a "flat" map is first presented from which to select
  178. the point on the Earth's surface to be directly underneath
  179. the viewpoint.  The user may cancel this item by pressing
  180. the right mouse button.

  182. Exit Help:  This selection terminates the Help function.
