- What is LHCon?
-
- LHCon is a program designed to convert Arc and Zoo files over to
- LHArc format. LHCon also has the capability of doing this to entire
- directories at one time. LHCon will also preserve the comment entry for
- the file.
-
- LHCon is copyrighted and is distributed as freely distributable. You
- may upload it to any BBS that you wish, it may be distributed on disk as
- long as the charge for such a disk does not exceed reasonable cost for the
- magnetic media and shipping/handling charges. All distributions must be in
- original form. No warranties are implied or expressed with regard to the
- total fitness or useability of LHCon for any particular purpose. All risks
- are that of the user.
-
- Enough of the messy stuff and on to the program. LHCon is designed so
- that an individual can convert Arc or Zoo programs into LHArc programs
- without going through the hassle of typing out all of the command strings
- and cleaning up the extra files afterwards. In addition LHCon has the
- ability to do entire directories in one command. This comes in handy in
- two instances, one is for the user who saves archives to disk and wants to
- optimize his capacity by converting all files to LHArc, the other instance
- is for the BBS sysop who wants to create more room on his hard drive for
- more uploads. One of the features of LHCon is that it will create a log
- file of it's activity and save it to ram: as "LHCon.Log". This enables the
- user to convert a directory and review his results after it is done
- without having to sit through the whole process. If you convert another
- directory immediately after the first this log file will be appended to
- with the second directories information.
-
- SYNTAX:
- LHCon [switches] [path/filename]
-
- Switches:
- -d/-D Convert a directory
- -h/-H/? Help listing
-
- for example if you want to convert a single file you would type:
- LHCon ram:filename
- The full pathname is a must
-
- or if you want to convert an entire directory you would type:
- LHCon -d ram:junkdir
-
- BBS Sysops: Special care must be taken not to lose the descriptions of the
- files involved. I cannot predict the outcome due to the many different
- methods of saving file descriptions used by BBS programs. If your BBS uses
- the comment to save the file description then you should have no problems
- as LHCon will preserve the comment. One BBS program that I have tested
- LHCon with is Skyline BBS. To do a conversion first run LHCon on a
- directory. When it is completed run dbupkeep and do a search for "arc",
- files that come up and were modified with LHCon you can change the .arc to
- .lzh. Run this same search for .zoo and you will be all set.
-
- **************************** Workbench 2.0 ********************************
- Tests were run on a 3000 with LHCon and it was found that LHCon works fine
- under 1.3 but under 2.0 it gurus as the program exits. The files and
- directories that we ran LHCon on converted properly and the comments were
- intact but it appears that the program is not exiting properly under 2.0.
- We will look into this and hopefully have a fix soon.
