  3.   Allow both directories and specific files to be targeted;
  4.   Improve parsing to allow quotes, spaces.
  5. PRINCIPAL REASONS FOR revision, May 1991:
  6.   Embed VERSION string to allow 2.0 "Version" query;
  7.   Permit "this directory" to be signalled by "" (empty quotes).
  8.   But ViewDir still works on Workbench 1.3.
