- Subj: UUCP/USENET information
-
- Here are a few directories of information related to UUCP and the
- USENET. The information is broken into the following directories:
-
- Netiquette Guidelines and suggestions on posting news
- Lists Lists of newsgroups and mailing lists as of Jan 91
- Registering Contains information on registering your "node"
- Protocol UUCP official protocol standards (RFC's)
-
- The files in these directories are:
- Netiquette/Posting_Rules Rules for posting to Usenet
- Netiquette/Usenet_Primer Primer on How to Work With the Usenet Community
- Netiquette/Emily_Postnews Emily Postnews Answers Questions on Netiquette
- Netiquette/Writing_Style Hints on writing style for Usenet

- (their format, use, and creation)

- Protocol/RFC-822 Standard for the format of ARPA
- Internet text messages
- Protocol/RFC-920 Domain requirements
- Protocol/RFC-976 UUCP mail interchange format standard
- Protocol/RFC-1036 Standard for interchange of USENET messages
- Protocol/RFC-1137 Mapping between full RFC 822 and
- RFC 822 with restricted encoding
-
- All of this is public domain and freely redistributable. I would
- suggest including some, if not all, of it with your UUCP distribution.
- I feel that the Netiquette directory is REQUIRED READING for anyone
- capable of posting news. The order in which I listed them is a fairly
- logical reading sequence.
-
- Also, anyone who is thinking of writing any UUCP code should be
- conversant with the RFCs in the Protocol directory. Perhaps that
- should be included with your source distribution.
-
- Feel free to contact me at the below addresses if you would like more.
- You may include this letter in your distribution if you like.
