EarTrainer Version 1.0
Copyright 1990 - Frank A. Baffoni, M.D.
This program is FreeWare - which means that:
It is copyrighted (is NOT public domain).
It is FREE - send no money!
It is freely distributable as is.
It may not be sold to anyone.
It may not be altered in any way.
About EarTrainer:
Eartrainer was designed for the musician (or aspiring musician) as an
aid to developing frequency (pitch) recognition; which may be facilitated,
for the most part by practice! The program uses 13 notes of distinct pitch
from C to C (one octave above middle C), with all the chromatics in
between. All sounds were generated from digital waveforms created by
computer software - using an instrument which resembles the sound of a
piano, and saved as SMUS files to minimize sampling noise.
The order in which these sounds are presented to the user is randomly
generated by the program.
Using Eartrainer:
This program requires BOTH the right and left sound channels of
your Amiga to be connected to a speaker(s), to hear all the sounds
generated by it! Eartrainer should not be run directly off floppy
disk, since this slows down note access considerably! Hard drive users
should copy the EarTrainer directory to a suitable place on the drive.
Users without a hard drive should copy the EarTrainer directory to RAM: .
BEFORE running the program assign EarTrainer: to the appropriate path where
you placed the EarTrainer directory. Hard drive users may wish to place
this assign statement in their startup-sequence.
After starting the program from it's workbench icon, or shell, you
will be presented with the EarTrainer screen. The musical score on this
screen was taken from a segment of an actual piece of music I wrote with
Deluxe music and Ported to Deluxe Paint. It has no function, it is purely
cosmetic. Generate a random note by clicking on the New Note gadget. The
same note can be replayed at any time by clicking on the Replay Note
gadget. To guess the name of the note you hear, click on one of the 12 note
gadgets (A to G#/Ab) along the left side of the screen. If your guess is
correct, a green bar will appear along the top of the screen, and you will
hear a bizarre laugh! If your guess is incorrect, a red bar will appear,
and you will hear a frustrating scream! You may continue guessing the name
of the note until you guess correctly, by sequentially selecting different
note gadgets; replaying the same note whenever desired. To exit the program,
just click on the close gadget.
This program multitasks well with many programs. To change from
the EarTrainer screen to another screen just use the Left-Amiga-M
keyboard combination. EarTrainer is fun to play with while uploading to a
BBS, for example.
Please keep all these files in the appropriate place in this archive. If
any of these files are moved or removed from the EarTrainer or Instrument
directories the program may not work correctly!
