LEAGUE HELP FILE -- Silicon Secretary V1.3 December 15, 1990
For a description of the menu options click on the SCREEN and press
the HELP key or choose HELP from the menu.
At the upper left hand portion of the window you'll see a disk gadget.
Selecting this (dark) will cause your current data file to be saved every
50 entries. Selecting this gadget will also cause the one on the Team
Editor window to be selected - they do the same thing. The status of
everything in this window is saved with the data file.
>>> The following string gadgets are available:
LEAGUE NAME
Enter the name of your league here. example- Drunken Night League
LANE NAME
Enter the name of the alley that you bowl at. example- Exxon Lanes
DAY & TIME
Enter when you bowl. example- Wednesday 7:00 PM
FILE PATH
This is the subdirectory where you want any files (other than the
data file) to go. This allows you to keep multiple leagues and/or
seasons organized. The program creates the subdirectory when you
press RETURN on this line. If the ICON option is selected from the
OUTPUT menu a bowling ball icon will be created for that subdirectory.
NOTE: If no path is entered and FILE is chosen on the menus a
requester will ask you for the file name.
BLIND SCORE
This is the actual SCRATCH score that the team will get if they are
short a bowler and have never had a team member for that position.
The blind handicap is based on this score using a MALE handicap
percentage and the entered handicap base.
If your mixed league uses a different handicap percentage for men
and women you may need to create a dummy female floating sub to allow
for the difference.
'-10' GADGET
This gadget is located immediately to the right of the BLIND SCORE.
Some leagues subtract 10 from the blind score. Since the
handicap is calculated before subtracting 10 there is a 30 pin
per series difference (based on 3 games). Below are examples with
(example 1) and without (example 2) the 'BLIND -10' being checked.
EXAMPLE 1: IF BLIND = 150... BOWLER GETS 150 + 45 (150 Hcp @ 90%)
EXAMPLE 2: IF BLIND = 150... BOWLER GETS 140 + 45 (150 Hcp @ 90%)
The default is NOT subtracting 10 (blank). Clicking it once displays
a '-10' and 10 will be subtracted from the blind score.
HCP BASE (handicap base)
The usual way of figuring a handicap is this:
(200 - AVERAGE) * HANDICAP_PERCENT = HANDICAP
Although the 200 is generally a constant the program allows you to
change it according to your league's bylaws. It will default to
200 unless you change it.
WEEKS IN SEASON
Enter the number of weeks that the league will bowl NOT counting the
final 'roll off' week (Position weeks are counted).
WEEKS IN HALF
Enter the number of weeks in the FIRST half if the season is in
two halfs. Most winter leagues conform to this practice. This
should include the position week for the half.
LANES (THRU)
Enter the starting alley and the ending alley. This information is
used to generate a league schedule.
HANDICAP PERCENT
As mentioned earlier, the usual way of figuring a handicap is:
(200 - AVERAGE) * HANDICAP_PERCENT = HANDICAP
Most leagues have a handicap percent between 80-90. Check your
league's bylaws for the exact figure.
Generally the mens' and womens' handicap percentage are the same,
but the program will allow them to be different. The ABC & WIBC
appear to discourage this practice.
USE EA (Entering Average) THROUGH GAME:
Bowlers that have an average from a previous league will use the
handicap from that average until the week FOLLOWING the week that
bowl the USE_EA_THROUGH game. Example: If you enter a 12 here
the handicaps would start rolling over on the 5th week
(This assumes that you're bowling 3 games a week and the bowler
didn't miss any games)
QUALIFY AFTER ___ GAMES
This is the minimum number of games that a bowler must complete
before they may qualify for a patch. 21 games is recommended by
the ABC As with most things, your league's bylaws may overrule this.
The default is 21 games.
>>> The rest of the gadgets
1 GAME, 2 GAMES, 3 GAMES or 4 GAMES
This is the number of games ACTUALLY BOWLED. The program assumes
one extra game for total pin count. The default is 3 games.
WIN=1 or WIN=2 or WIN=1+2 or WIN=2+1
If your league counts a win as 1 point this makes a tie worth 1/2 a
point. If your league counts a win as 2 points change this makes a
tie worth 1 point). The default is WIN=1.
'WINS = 1' GAMES are worth 1 point and TOTAL is worth 1 point.
'WINS = 2' GAMES are worth 2 points and TOTAL is worth 2 points.
'WINS =1+2' GAMES are worth 1 point and TOTAL is worth 2 points.
'WINS =2+1' GAMES are worth 2 points and TOTAL is worth 1 point.
Clicking this gadget will loop through the options.
Neg Hcp NOT Okay or Neg Hcp Okay
If your league allows negative handicaps for averages above 200
click this to 'Neg Hcp Okay'. If it is set to 'Neg Hcp NOT Okay'
(the default) anyone with an average of 200 or higher will have
a handicap of zero.
QUALIFY PERCENTAGE
The options here are: ALL QUALIFY, ONE QUARTER, ONE THIRD, ONE HALF,
TWO THIRDS and THREE QUARTERS.
These represent the minimum number of games that each bowler must
have bowled out of the possible games to qualify for a position as
a SEASON LEADER. The default is ALL QUALIFY.
QUALIFY HALF or SEASON
The option is 'S' for SEASON or 'H' for half. If SEASON is selected
the season leaders will continue to the end of the season. If HALF
is selected the leaders will reser at the begining of the second half.
The headings on the printout will reflect season, first half or
second half leaders, depending on your selection. Check with your
bylaws for how your league is set up. The default is SEASON.
NOTE: If the weeks entered in the season and half are the same this
gadget will have no effect.
ABSENT MINUS VALUE
Enter the amount of pins subtracted from a ABSENT bowler's average.
The default is 10.
