LabelBase 3.1 © 1989 By Laura M. Young
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
Version 3.1 - March 9,1989
LabelBase is a mini database program. It will also print out your records
in label format, so it is useful for doing mailing lists (like for Xmas)!
You should have AT LEAST 512K to use this.. since the records you enter are
kept in RAM until you save the file to the disk. This makes the program
very quick! You can create files that will hold up to 3,000 records, but,
of course, this depends on the amount of RAM you have.
Here is a summary of the commands:
Create new file
-----------------
This will make a new file in memory and ask you to specify how many fields
you want for each record. Then will ask you what you want the subject of
each field to be, and what the maximum number of characters can be.
If there is already a file in memory when you choose Create, it will
tell you and ask whether you want to go back and save that file to disk
first.
Load file
-----------
Loads a previously saved file from disk.
* NOTE: If you are not asked which file to Load, you probably don't have the
ARP.library file in your LIBS directory of your boot disk!
Add Record
----------
This will let you add more records to the file currently in memory.
Edit Record
-----------
This will let you edit a record(s) in the file currently in memory.
You can edit a given record number, or enter S to Search for the file you
want to edit.
Delete Record
--------------
Deletes a record from the file currently in memory. Again, you are given an
option to delete a certain record #, or Search for a certain record if you are
unsure of which record you want to delete.
Save File
---------
This will save the file currently in memory to disk. Always remember to
save your file before quitting. If you do forget to save it though, it will
tell you about it, so you can go back and save it.
Sort Records
-------------
This will let you sort the file currently in memory by whatever field you
want. For example if your fields were Name, Address, Phone #, you could
either sort them alphabetically by Name, or by the Address, or Phone #.
A re-sort is automatically done after deleting any records, but if you add
records you must sort them when done.
Quit
----
Exit program. Don't forget to save file currently in memory before exiting!
Print Records
---------------
This brings you to the Print Options screen...
You can print your record or records out, and they will be spaced just
right for printing on labels. (This is great for doing your Xmas cards!)
The labels should be 1 across, and you can specify whether you want to use
STANDARD labels (3 lines), LARGE labels (up to 8 lines), or CUSTOM (you
can specify your own parameters). The FIRST thing you must do before it will
let you PRINT is SET UP your label format.
Setup Labels
------------
This will let you set up your labels. You will be asked how many lines you
want on your label, and then be shown your label lines so you can enter
which fields you want on each line. Line length is 32, so if you put 3 fields
on a line, (for example: Name, Address, Phone#) they must be less than 32
characters or they will go off the label. For a mailing label you could
set it up like this:
Fields:
1 Last Name
2 First Names
3 Address
4 City
5 State
6 Zip
You will be prompted to enter the field numbers on each line. Wherever you
don't want a field just hit Return, and it will be blank. It's really pretty
simple.
Print ALL
---------
This will let you print out ALL labels beginning with the record # you
specify.
Print COMMON
------------
This will let you search for a COMMON word in the records you want to print.
You will be asked which field to search, and what common item. Then all
records with that common word (or group of letters) will be printed out.
** Hint **
I use a field named "Reference", and for the names on my Christmas card list
the Reference says 'XMAS'. So when printing out Xmas card labels, I choose
to print only the records with the common word of 'XMAS' in the Reference
field.
Print SINGLE
------------
Lets you print out just ONE specified label... and asks HOW MANY times you
want it printed out.
Page Printout
-------------
This option lets you printout your entire file to paper as a 3 column
listing. (print is in condensed mode for this.) Your records will
be printed out in the format you specified in the SETUP option.
Go Back
-------
Takes you back to the main options screen.
